Interaction with Guests
Portmagee Seaside Cottages is a family run business. The family is made up of Elizabeth and Francie and our children Paul (studying Engineering in Galway), Aisling (living and working in Australia) and Roisin (living and working in Luxembourg). We also have a farm with pedigree Charolais cows and ducks (which occasionally lay eggs which we are happy to share!). We have good local knowledge of all that is going on, we can recommend nice places to visit and know all the local boat and activity operators. In our spare time (which can be limited!) we are avid walkers. We would be happy to advise our guests on walking routes in the locality and time permitting might also be available to lead our guests on a walk.
Our cottages and farmhouses are located on the world famous Wild Atlantic Way! We are only 4 kilometers from Bray Head which is 1 of 15 signature discovery points on the entire 2,500 kilometer route which goes from Donegal to Cork. There are also numerous discovery points in the locality; we recommend that people download the Wild Atlantic Way app for further information.
Our properties are located just 3 kilometers from the charming fishing village of Portmagee. Portmagee is located in the South West of Ireland in the beautiful county of Kerry. The cottages sit on the coastline and look across the water to Valentia Island. They are on the waterfront with large open lawns, natural hedging and direct access to the seashore. We have two moorings in case you wish to bring your boat!
A car is recommended to get around as there is no public transport available in Portmagee.

The cottage was located right on the water with absolutely stunning views of Valentia Island. The big open sitting room/dining room was perfect for a large group, and the lovely open fire with a big basket of fuel on arrival was wonderful. The coffee machine and dishwasher were great luxuries that we really appreciated! The heating didn't seem to be too expensive, except that it had been left on for us for quite a few hours before we got there, which amounted to half of the bill we payed in the end. It was lovely to arrive into a warm house though, and the final bill only came to €16 for 3 nights, so all in all the cottage was very good value. We only met Elizabeth very briefly but she seemed very pleasant and was happy to leave us to do our own thing, which suited us perfectly! The nearby village of Portmagee is beautiful and has some great pubs, and is only about a 30 min walk away or a 5 min drive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage and will definitely be back in the summer for another trip!
The cottage is conveniently located close to Portmagee, perfect place to stay if you are planning a trip to Skelligs Michael. The cottage is spacious, facilities are in great condition, the view is spectacular especially during sunrise. Elizabeth was an amazing host, she helped us to secure a last minute boat tour booking to Skelligs Michael before we even arrived at the cottage. Thanks for a lovely and relaxing stay.
What can I say about this beautiful place! Firstly Elizabeth was very very accommodating about our late arrival time and very friendly in my dealings with her. The cottage is simply wonderful, peaceful and quiet. It is incredibly well kept and furnished with some beautiful touches such as local images/maps on the wall. I would/will whole-heartedly recommend this booking to a friend.
Cottage is right on the sea, in a beautiful spot with views across to Valentia Island. Nice little bakery, shop and pubs in Portmagee and Cahirsiveen (sp) nearby for anything else. It is enormous- 4 bedrooms - and decently equipped. There is a surcharge for hot water (€1.50 per unit) based on a metered reading for the boiler, which worried us enough that we rationed aggressively while there (based on some horror stories I have heard about surcharges). It turned out we used so little that we didn't incur any additional charge. Based on our experience the surcharge seems reasonable and I would not worry about it next time. Elizabeth was helpful and informative and accommodated a late arrival.
Great place in a beautiful location! Elizabeth was super accommodating and 100% responsible for getting is on a boat to Skellig Michael. Cottage itself is delightful and we loved the peat fireplace. Will definitely recommend!
A lovely and large cottage right beside the water with great views over Valencia Island. They had everything needed for a few nights stay.
Elizabeth ensured everything was ready for us and was quick to respond to any questions.
We will be booking with Elizabeth again when we return to Portmagee
what a wonderful place - thanks elizabeth and family for a great time near portmagee.
elizabeth has some real nice stone cottages at the sea with a great valentia island view, we loved it!
they were welcoming and made my birthday very special by having us stay at the gannet cottage.
I especially liked the turf fire and the bath with the jacuzzi.
seaview dinner and sundowners are the best :)
