Interaction with Guests
We are here most of the time. We will be here for check in, and to answer any questions, otherwise we won't bother your peace and quiet.
We are located on 5 acres at the top of a hill on a quiet country lane, very close to the village.
Our lane comes off of highway 1 and is a short drive to Mendocino. No sidewalks, so we do not recommend walking to town.

Howard was welcoming and available at check-in (very easy with a coded door) so the timing/exact hour of arrival wasn't critical. The cottage was just as we read about and expected and the environment is peaceful, quiet, and full of nature sounds and sites. We saw deer, wild turkeys, hummingbirds and of course, the ocean! We hope to stay here again! It was a very relaxing few days for my husband and me.
In all the years we’ve been using Airbnb no listing has impressed us more than staying at Howards little guest house. Everything is brand new including the carpet, the decor is refreshingly uncluttered and restful and the view from the living room is world class. Howard was very welcoming both through email and in person. We felt at home immediately and wished we could stay for weeks rather than two nights. We are both neat freaks and have never seen a cleaner place. We also have sensitivities to regular cleaning chemicals and Howard made sure everything was cleaned with a product that was safe for us. The place was spotless and odorless. The location couldn’t be more perfect for visiting Mendocino Village or enjoying the many outdoor activities in the area. We can’t wait to come back on our next trip.
Staying at Serenity was the perfect weekend getaway for my boyfriend and I. We just couldn't get enough of that porch with the two adirondack chairs. It was very beautiful and peaceful, with lots of wildlife to watch (birds, deer and turkeys!). Howard also stocked the fridge with muffins, jam and butter. There was coffee and tea available , too! A nice little touch. We would absolutely go back! Hope you enjoy!
Great stay! House is lovely, everything we needed. Howard makes you feel very welcome, had instructions in the house for how to operate the TV and other appliances. Howard also provided towels, soap and coffee. Check-in and out was dead simple. Would defiantly stay again.
We had a wonderful weekend at Howard and Angela's place!! It was close to town, super clean and had everything we could have needed. They even had coffee, tea, muffins, jam and wine waiting for us! We are looking forward to coming back to stay (website hidden). Super comfy bed and sheets!!
We didn't get to meet Howard during our stay, but Serenity was just what we needed for our weekend getaway! It's a short drive to town, and it is more secluded from neighbors than the pictures show—perfectly peaceful and quiet. It's a great value for a very clean and comfy, standalone 1-bedroom unit. We had everything we needed to prep and cook food and appreciated the complimentary wine and breakfast items. Communication on how to find the place was timely and clear. We also appreciated the information printouts on the table by the entryway.
About the Host, Howard
My wife Angela and I have lived here in Mendocino for 26 years. I am a retired building contractor and Angela is an artist. She loves to paint and specializes in Mendocino scenes and the ocean. Her work can be viewed at the Panache gallery on Main St in Mendocino. We enjoy a walk around the headlands as often as possible and a kayak up the river.
