About This Listing
First floor newly renovated unit in 1930's farm house. Modern amenities. Light housekeeping every other week, utilities, limited sundries, and basic cable included. Queen size bed in bedroom. There is a twin mattress that can be put on the floor.
Newly renovated historic house. There is nothing like it in Walnut Creek! Location is great - short walk to BART, downtown, and easy access to freeway on-ramps for those who are driving.
Cable, utilities, some sundries, and bi-weekly housekeeping are included. There is off-street parking for one vehicle. There is a laundry room.
The house underwent a complete renovation that includes double-paned windows, on demand hot water, new electrical and plumbing systems, and energy efficient appliances.
The apartment has a roll out mattress (for one) that can accommodate a third person bunking in the living room on the floor.
Guests have their own furnished apartment.
Interaction with Guests
The house is close to downtown and BART but it is still a little bit country. The house is next to an open field so there is a real sense of being devoid of neighbors.
Easy....5 minute walk to BART. 10 min walk to shops and downtown. 20 minute walk to outdoors such as Larkey Park and Briones Regional Park. There is a very nice public outdoor pool, volley ball courts and tennis courts nearby.
Other Things to Note
There are two dogs on the property but guests will not interface with them much except maybe through fence. There is occasional noise associated with them but we try to mitigate their impact on the household as a whole.
No smoking anywhere in or around the property. There is light housekeeping is done approximately monthly - thus long term tenants will need to keep the apartment reasonably tidy.
We had a great stay at Beth's place! The apartment is beautiful and incredibly spacious and her garden is just lovely. Close drive to San Fran and wine country and a quick walk to downtown Walnut Creek and BART. Beth and her husband were incredibly, incredibly accommodating and also incredibly warm and inviting and we can't thank them enough for that. Really cant say enough nice things about them and their place. Will definitely stay there again next time. Also they have two super cute and super sweet dogs so if you're lucky you'll get to meet them too :)
Beth’s pictures don’t do this apartment justice! The apartment was absolutely adorable, extremely comfortable and spotless. Beth was very responsive both leading up to our stay and while we were there. Any questions we had, she always answered quickly and was very thorough in her response. If I had to find a drawback it would be the location. The unit is located near downtown but if you plan to walk you’ll be walking along some major roadways. Beth warned us about this prior to our visit so we used UberX to get around a lot. There are plenty of Ubers in Walnut Creek so we didn’t have any issues. We definitely plan to stay with Beth again! I can’t say enough nice things about her apartment.
The location is great if you use a car - which 99.9% of people do. Suburbanites love their cars and these past rural lands were long ago enveloped by roadways without a vision for "walkability". The main complaint brought up in community meetings is the traffic. I personally gave the Mayor an earful. I know that local urban planners and residents are working together to push for improvements but it is very hard to go back and undo what has been done. There are less trafficked routes but it takes some time to identify them.
Super cute unit in a great and central location. It felt larger than 1 bedroom. Very well decorated and clean. The style of the unit was great--loved all the tile work. I would have stayed longer if Beth had the availability!
This is my second time staying at Beth's place. I look forward to coming back again...and again...and again. Totally cozy place and nice to have so much space to oneself. You may hear the pitter patter of doggie feet above you, but it hardly bothered me.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this very cute apartment. The grounds are very nice and everything is very clean. It is very quiet even though it's next to the freeway, you really don't get much of that noise though. The place is just as pictured here. I have already recommended this place to our family for future visits. It's in a great location, very close to restaurants, shopping and anything you need. BART is really close and that was really helpful. The two dogs she has we only saw them once but never heard them, if she hadn't mentioned them you'd never know they're very quiet. She was also flexible with our check-in time which helped a lot with coordinating with family for our plans that day. We couldn't stop talking about all of the neat decor this place had and just beautiful home. Thanks Beth!
The unit is well kept, clean and inviting. However, we were booked for a week and informed (more as an afterthought) two days after we arrived that air conditioning contractors would be coming to work in the unit at 10:00am on Friday. The contractors arrived 2 hours earlier with no warning or apology from the host. We were put in a very awkward and inconvenient position and had to leave for the day much earlier than was planned. We felt this was work that should have been contracted when the host did not have paid guests staying at the unit.
I would advise anyone planning to stay at this unit to confirm with the host, in writing, whether or not she has booked contractors to do work at the unit during the same time period.
I am sorry that the AC contractors inconvenienced you for a few hours. Like most maintenance appointments, we do not get much choice as to when they schedule a service call. We provided you advanced notice - and we relayed the information as best as we could - as it was given to us. Even when staying in a hotel - this type of imperfect situation happens. As home stay hosts we do our best to provide a nice experience for guests. We try very hard to accommodate guests and meet their different needs - but will not succeed all the time. From other guests' reviews you can see that we exceed guests' expectations. We have developed nice relationships with guests and many have returned or stayed in touch. I am very sorry that the service call overshadowed the positives of the property.
About the Host, Beth
I am a recent transplant from San Francisco (currently work in San Francisco). I bought this old farm house in Walnut Creek to take care of my mother who was living nearby. While Walnut Creek is a nice place to land it was hard to find a "suitable" house in Walnut Creek to buy after living in San Francisco and being surrounded by historic homes. Walnut Creek is full of pedestrian ranch homes, shacks, square houses from the 1980's, and modern apartments - none of which grooved with my point of view. This old farm house was a wreck, having been neglected for decades. But it has been given a new life and I hope to share it with others who find themselves passing through Walnut Creek.
I work for the University of California, San Francisco in the field of reproductive rights. I am also an artist - known for making something out of nothing. My other interests are in the animal welfare. I foster and find homes for dogs taken in by Rocket Dog Rescue, a volunteer group located in San Francisco.
What do i like about my adopted city? Walnut Creek has a nice downtown with good grub. Most days are sunny and warm. There are many great options for spending your days outside. The streets are squeaky clean. And it’s close to Oakland and San Francisco should you need your big city fix!
