500ft2, open-plan space, industrial details (concrete floors, new york windows, high ceilings). Located in the Unity Building, over 100 years old, located between Downtown and Old Montreal. Close to metro, and top restaurants and nightlife.
In the area that delineates Old Montreal from the Downtown core, the International Quarter (Quartier International) is a quick walk to both downtown and Old Montreal attractions. Have brunch at Olive and Gourmando or the Cartet a few blocks away, dinner at the city's most critically acclaimed restaurants including Toque (a block away) and Garde Manger. The hippest bars and clubs are also within a few blocks.
Located just off Victoria Square (and all of 3 minutes from a metro) this 500 square foot loft is in a historical building that dates from 1923 with concrete floors, high ceilings, large New York-style loft windows. The Unity Building formerly housed a printing company and today is a quiet residential loft building full of young creative professionals (and their dogs!). The space is open plan with a large and well-equipped kitchen, closed bathroom with bath, washer-dryer, dishwasher and comfortable queen size bed. It faces an interior courtyard, so it is calm and quiet despite its location.
A chill, easy space to dine in and chill with a coffee in the morning sunlight or visit the city from an easy vantage point, close to everything.
Interior courtyard has a sit down dining space as well as recliners in and out of the shade.
Interaction with Guests
I will not be around physically during your stay (that would be weird), but am happy to offer suggestions and am in the city and easy to contact in case there are any issues.
The Quartier International is in the fringe between the downtown core (5 minute walk to shopping, 10 minutes to most of the main businesses) and Old Montréal, which is the hot place to be in Montréal, both picturesque and full of great dining and nightlife options. In the building, you have one of the city's best coffee houses (la différence), the waterfront is a 10 minute walk (great place to go run along the water), cultural centres like the Centre Phi are within 7 or 8 blocks.
Metro Square Victoria (orange line) is 2 minutes walk, Metro Place d'Armes is 4. Metro Place des Arts (green line) is 10 minutes walk. There are several Bixi (bike share) stations within 3 blocks.
Other Things to Note
The apartment has windows along a whole wall so it is very sunny. There are block out curtains and central air conditioning. The walls are very thick and the windows give to interior courtyard so the loft is very peaceful and quiet.
Use common sense
No smoking please
If you are visiting Montreal for the first time, please don't mind the cold (its not always like this) and try to get out there and try the great food and drink, that's the best way to appreciate Montreal in the winter.
Ana's place was really great! A beautiful space in a convenient location. I was attending a conference a block away and my husband had a meeting at the US consulate 2 blocks away, so we couldn't beat the location. There are some great little cafes on the same block as the loft and it's a short walk to Old Montreal. Ana was super flexible with check-in / check-out and the unit had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable.
The neighbourhood doesn't have much going on in the evenings, so it's pretty quiet - I suppose this could be good or bad news depending on who you are.
Overall highly recommended!
A roomy, bright and well equipped apartment. Excellent location between Old Montreal and Downtown - a short walk to both - also a short walk to Montreal Central Rail Station and local metro.
Ana is a attentive and helpful host, suppying us with many hints and places to visit.
Both Ana and her loft were absolutely great! She helped us get set up easily, and provided a great list of attractions and restaurants to check out in the area. As for the place, it's not only comfortable and beautiful, but it's conveniently located for going just about anywhere!
Ana's loft is awesome, and there's fantastic coffee a half a block away! It was perfect for what I needed, and Ana was a great host.
I can't say I have a motto, I live my life trying to experience as much as possible. I love meeting new people but I take a long time to get truly warmed up to people and tend to have friends that I have known forever. I love to eat and cook, especially for the people I care about. Winter kind of gets me down, I hate that we are so tired and stressed over the short days and poor driving conditions. Gathering over a hot meal and a bottle of wine is a great antidote. As is going somewhere hot, which brings me to my second great love: travel. As much as I hate planes I love being places, anywhere new to explore is a kick. I'm a bit of a workaholic. I love my job because it joins two things I love, travelling and design. I'm an industrial designer by training but I work managing international projects for a design promotion agency.
