The Adobe Abode was built in the 1920’s and was recently remodeled back into a residence after years of being used as “professional” office space. The homeowner has thoughtfully decorated this home and has paid close attention to the small details when she furnished the home.
This home sleeps up to 6 comfortably.

Sorry No Pets Allowed! There is an apartment on the back end of this home..Please be quiet and do not disturb tenants.
The house was cozy and in good condition. We enjoyed the fireplace! The neighbors has a NYE party that went kinda late, but other than that it was very quiet. Shops and restaurants were very close and easy to walk (website hidden) was hard to work, and didn't have many channel, had to setup personal Netflix in order to watch anything entertaining.
Kim was very nice and responsive!
The home is warm, comfortable, and cozy. Getting in was easy, and the instructions were clear.
We enjoyed our stay at Adobe Abode. It is a large home, very conveniently located to downtown Ojai. We have lived in Ojai for extended periods and have to realize that there are few good standalone accommodations available in this price range and this was a good option but I do think it is overpriced for what it offers in terms of the finish and cleanliness of the place. The best part about the place is Kim. She is prompt and very helpful. Please know that the place is good overall but here are some things to keep in mind:
- the carpets are old and could really use a cleaning or replacement -- they are dusty and old so if you have allergies that is something to think about
- one of the bedrooms has no heating though Kim was so prompt in providing us a space heater
- the cable did not work
- the wifi is slow and doesn't work in some parts of the house
- the entrance patio is not cleaned out enough for you to actually sit on the chairs and enjoy some time outside
- the home is right on the main drag and while the street noise did not bother us, it might bother someone else
- there are few pans for cooking, a few pots, no pans
- the home has more chairs than you know what to do with
At a lower price these are easier to ignore. Also, if these don't matter to you, you are good to go. Kim is really nice!
This was a perfect location for three adults who needed to stay near to the Ojai Inn & Spa but didn't want to pay spa prices - and in fact, the accommodation was just as good if not better than that at the spa. The house was spotlessly clean, well-equipped and nicely furnished. The issues some other reviewers have noted - access to one bathroom through a bed room, and noise from the road - didn't cause any issues at all and we will certainly consider staying here again!
The location was fantastic! So close to everything. Kim was super responsive. Towels are great. Living room comfortable and fireplace wonderful to sit by.
Issues: next door is a party house. Thursday nigh a party went on till 3 am and Saturday night to 6 am (seriously 6 am). It was loud and we could not sleep. The noise / people were less than 100 yards from my (closed) window. Bring ear plugs if you want to sleep. The bathroom is located between the two bedrooms with queen beds so if you need to go in the night you must go through one of the bedrooms and possibly disturb the occupants of both bedrooms.
Sparsely appointed. no soap for shower, no condiments (olive oil, garlic powder) type stuff or tea. This may be normal for air BNBs (this was my first experience). I will just remember to bring all the soap and kitchen condiments I need in the future.
My overall experience is only a 2 stars because I did not know up front about the potential noise next door and to bring ear plugs, or about the bathroom being between the two bedrooms. If I knew this upfront and was prepared for it I would have given it 3 stars.
Very disappointing rental that certainly makes me cautious about using AirBnB again even after some very pleasant stays at other properties. At $325 per night I expected a higher end home than what we found. It didn't equal $125 properties I have had rented through AirBnB.
So the good is that the pictures, in as much as what they show, are accurate and the beds are nice and the furniture in the living room as well. The layout seems to be more about number of chairs than how they might be used by a group. For example, the TV (no DVD by the way) is really only conveniently viewed from one of the six chairs. The kitchen is smaller than it appears online. The 20 year-old Mr Coffee fits the place.
So the disappointments are not shown or described. The building seems to be a converted motel and "Adobe Abode" is a peculiar description. If we had seen a photo of the outside we certainly would not have chosen it. So 3 or 4 motel rooms strung together is what you get rather than a home. One very small bathroom is very, very outdated with a bare sink with separate hot and cold water spigots and a sink that could not be stoppered to let you adjust the temperature of the water you tried to use. No room for any toilet articles other than the top of the toilet tank or the window sill. Hardly suitable for an expensive 3 bedroom rental. The small table in the eating area had a loose piece of wood at one end and was not stable.
The biggest problem is the road noise that is relentless in the two forward bedrooms. The walls provide no dampening. Somehow when I looked on (website hidden) Earth at the property I thought that considering the rent that the rooms would be at the back of the property rather than right on Main Street. The back bedroom turned out to be right next (that is a few feet) to the neighbors fire pit and they were drinking at it and chopping wood to midnight.
So buyer beware. A few picts can show a nice home but what isn't shown or described can make the rental a disaster.
I am very confused by the other reviews and find it very hard to believe that others had a different impression even at the $250 non-holiday rate. So all in all a disastrous Thanksgiving. We were able to get into the Ojai Valley Inn in a very nice room with a beautiful view of the mountains for $345 a night. Comparing that 5 start resort should put the "Adobe Abode" in the category of extremely overpriced. I wouldn't stay again at $100 per night.
We loved this place. It was in a great location, very cozy, nice amenities. We had a little difficulty finding the place and Kim was immediately available to assist with directions. All four ladies in our group loved our stay.
