About This Listing
Your own "edicula", a room separate from the house with its own entrance through a vila, and its own bathroom. In one of the best locations in SP.
Available to both short-term (a few days to 3 months) and long-term guests (3+ months)
This room is in what we call an "edícula" in Brazil, a small house in the back of our main house. Though small, It's got its own bathroom with a shower, and a separate back door leading into a beautiful "vila" (a small gated dead-end street lined with small houses and trees). You'll come in and out everyday through the vila gate and entry street, full of plants and rose trees. Very cozy, private and safe.
The room is equipped with a bed, drawer set and a table, two changes of sheets and a towel set. There's a cleaning lady who comes in 3x a week.
It does not have any closets, nor space for a lot of luggage. It's a place for guests who travel light.
You'll have access to the kitchen, living/dining rooms in the main house, and a separate entrance on the back of the house, inside the vila.
Interaction with Guests
My mother is home most of the time and always available to help with anything that comes up.
You'll be living with my mother, Yara, a Brazilian teacher and translator. She's home most of the time and always available to help with anything that comes up. Also, If you need work on your Portuguese, she also gives Portuguese classes (R$35/hr).
Living there with her Guria, mom's funky breed dog. Please don't book if you don't like dogs...
I don't live there myself, I just help mom rent the rooms through Airbnb to make ends meet.
The location is good and central, and we're on a residential street within a couple of blocks from everything: grocery store, bakery, restaurants, library, drugstore, cultural centers, subway stations, buses... We're within walking distance of Vila Madalena, with its dozens of bars, restaurants, live music joints, 24hs convenience stores, etc.
We're a 15 minutes subway ride away from Av. Paulista and 5 minutes more to Centro (downtown), and one station from Butantã, where USP, the University of São Paulo, is located.
Other Things to Note
There's city-wide water shortage that's been going for a long time now. There is the possibility of water not being available unpredictably. Unfortunately everybody in the city is having to deal with this.
Just common wash-your-own-dishes sense, and not making too much noise on late nights... Mom is pretty easy going.
O banheiro realmente é pequeno, especialmente a pia.
Oliver was very responsive before my arrival. His mother, Yara was very welcoming and sweet. The room is the way it appears in the picture and it was great having a private access. Yara is great at allowing guests to use the kitchen and the rest of the house. However, for some reason the dog did not take a liking to me, so I was not able to use the kitchen some of the time because the dog stood at the door barking. Yara apologized and tried to keep the dog by her side, but I was still not able to use the kitchen my last day there. Also, the house is a smoking household, so the room smelled like smoke. I think if you are dog friendly and do not mind the scent, the room is great. However, I was a little disappointed.
Also, due to the water shortage in the city, the private bathroom does not have water between 19H in the evening - 7 in the morning. Yara is great about letting you use the house bathroom, but if you are looking for a place where you do not have to leave the room, this is something to be aware of.
Recomendo.
Great time at Oliver's... Very close to some great spots.. Very friendly environment! Everything you will need nearby! I'll be back
The host Yara is very nice, attentive, and speaks english very well. Make sure you get in touch with her before you arrive, though - there was a bit of a mixup when I arrived and nobody was there to answer the door. You should also be aware that there may be somebody sleeping in the living room.
The location is great, with the yellow line subway a 5 minute walk from your door, and the room is as equipped as advertised. The separate entrance makes it easy to come and go as you like. There was a water issue in Sao Paulo when I was there that meant no water at night, but that's no fault of the hosts and is likely to improve soon since it has started raining again. Overall a good choice if you need somewhere convenient in Sao Paulo!
