Description

The space

We have three large guest bedrooms, two all with double and single bed, the third room The Old Study, has a small double bed. They are also available as single rooms, especially outside of high summer season. The rooms have very different styles, each looking out on a different garden. You’ll find a desk and seat and comfortable chairs and a kettle to make that much needed cup of tea. The larger rooms share a bathroom right between them. The Old Study is downstairs and has its own bathroom. We also have a new wooden cabin- "The Tigín", which is fully self contained, with double/convertable to single bed, shower, kitchen facilities, sitting area and writing desk. The stream runs past it and trees surround it. You will be welcome to make yourself at home in our beautiful sitting-room, which is also where breakfast is served, at any time.

We offer 4 different experiences:

* Bed and Breakfast in a real family home in a secluded environment. You can opt for a traditional served breakfast or help yourself from a range of foods.
*The Tigín- a small but perfectly formed hideout -fully self- contained cabin with semi-divided living and sleeping areas (double or single bed), as well as fitted kitchen and shower room
* The Artist’s Retreat – a creative space for anyone looking for a quiet working place or just time out, in the house or in the Tigín. This can be B&B in the Main House or self catering in An Tigín. I can offer full board by arrangement .
* Weekend Writing Workshops in a small group setting.

There is wifi available throughout the house.

We can take up to 8 people depending on cabin bookings.

Interaction with guests

Our aim is to create a space for anyone looking for time out in a welcoming home from home or a quiet working place where you can be a total hermit or as social as you wish.
.I('ll be delighted to share any information or help I can give you about the locality and what to do here. Sometimes sharing stories is what we end up really wanting to do!

The neighborhood

Westport is a Heritage Town situated in beautiful countryside on the shores of Clew Bay. It's one of Ireland’s few planned towns and a walk around town shows how beautifully designed it was. The town is always bustling with life but still keeps that small town feel that’s so relaxing in these often stressful times. The sea and the Holy Mountain are at our doorstep. The Greenway goes from Westport to Achill and has become beloved by cyclists and walkers. Our local area is full of beautiful walks and stories from history. There's a strong community and people of all sorts including artistic, musical and sporty people are drawn here. What a lovely combination!

Getting around

We are situated on the Leenane Rd. just 3 miles from Westport Town. Westport has a train station and Bus Eireann stops in Mill Street. There's a bus from Knock Airport. We're 5 minutes drive from town. There is a taxi service available if you want to go out at night. If daytime travelers don't have transport, I'm very happy to collect you and take you into town, if I can. Many people like to travel by bike. Cars can be parked in our grounds.

Other things to note

Prices quoted are for single people.
Our usual rate for shared rooms is €35 pp B&B.
The Cabin (self catering) costs 275 per week.
Evening meals shared in the Main house are offered (by arrangement) to those staying for a week to write or do other creative work and cost an additional €20 per day.
Information on workshops and writing weekends can be found on our website (URL HIDDEN)

This is a lovely place. Roisin is very welcoming and provides great hospitality. The house is fascinatingly charming and old with great nooks and crannies. The dog, Nellie, is very friendly. Don't be nervous, as I was, of the barking when you arrive. The dog is just excited to see guests and will be happy to get a rub on the head. The beds and rooms are very comfortable. The shower was great. The house is very much as described in the photos. There are taxis into town but driving in and out is easier and quicker. I really enjoyed my stay.

Roisin was a delightful host and the property is just stunning. It's a great experience--staying in a farm house that dates back 100 years! The rooms were unique and she pays particular attention to the details. We were all really comfortable and impressed with the character of the space. The bathroom was nice and large which was a treat and the breakfast room was really lovely. Roisin was kind enough to cook an early breakfast for our family when they had to depart unexpectedly early on our last day. The cat and dog were sweet and well behaved. If you're looking for a unique farmhouse experience, don't miss this spot!

This was truly adelightful place to stay and surpassed all imagination of peaceful tranquility and rest! Although I was late checking in and my cell service was not working Roisan greeted me with a warm smile and great kindness. The bed is the most comfortable bed I have had in my three weeks of traveling Ireland. She was kind and gave recommend stations of where to eat and provided delicious homemade breakfast each morning. As the house profile indicates the kitchen door at times was closed and more often than not I felt like it was to help keep the kitchen heat contained and hope all guests realize this. She was very welcoming when I needed to enter but the door was closed. This is not the place to stay if you are looking to party or be very chatty so it was perfect for me. It inspired and encouraged creativeness and relaxation. The specialicing on the cake of this place was Nelly the very well behaved dog who prances in dance with pure delight eager to play and love.

Róísín offered us an unforgettable experience in her old dream house with an artistic flair and details, and lots of books, films and musical instruments for the rainy day. Róísín really made us feel at home with an excellent Irish breakfast every morning, the sheep dog Nelly and the cat Rufus. The cosy and romantic bedrooms and the bathroom the size of a small apartment were like from a book. The old house and the animals may not be the ideal environment for very allergic guests. But we would recommend Róísín's hospitality to all lovers of Irish history and countryside any time!

Róísín User ProfileRóísín is a superhost.

I’m Róísín – your hostess and general organiser. From the first time our family set eyes on The Old Rectory at Knappagh we knew we wanted to share it with others…so this is a dream come true. I’ve written with and been involved in writers’ workshops on and off over the years and worked in amateur and community drama in one of many past lives. Having hosted and cooked for so many family and friends’ gatherings which included evenings of music and poetry and found our house offered a creative space in many ways, it seemed a logical step to extend our hospitality to the wider community.
These days I have a new partner in my son Maitiú. Maitiú is 25 and studying Performing ~Arts with Blue Teapot in Galway. When he's at home he helps keep the Togón clean and tidy and welcomes guests. This year he also plans to do a bit of gardening. The hens are his good friends because he looks after them so well.
