Beautiful private house located in the North coast of São Miguel Island, close to the beaches, natural swimming pools, Batalha Golf Course, 12 minutes driving away to downtown Ponta Delgada.
This charming house was built in the 19th century.
Beautiful house, built on the 19th century for being a wine cellar. After that became a promary school and nowadays, after a recent remodeling became a family home. The house is very well decorated, we keep the old bread oven (made by local stone) in the kitchen. The kitchen is fully equiped. The house also has a small terrace to have breakfast or just to relax. Fantastic living room with amazing views over the ocean
We are able to pick you up at the airport; welcome basquet with primary needs at the house
Interaction with Guests
We will welcome you and your friends/ family over a drink or a coffee in order to give you all the tipps regarding activities, must seen places, best beaches, golf, horse ridding, restaurants, bar, etc
We love the atmosphere of being at an old and typical village by the ocean and only 15 minutes driving away downtown/ airport. Lovely local arquitecture. Maybe a fisherman will knock at the door selling fresh fish or sea food. In September is the village festivity of Senhora da Luz, people put flowers on the streets. For hickers we have a trail passing by the house (website hidden)
Taxi in the island is very affordable, public transportantion available just around the corner.
Its better to rent a car and drive around the island. The house has private garage.
Other Things to Note
You may walk to a Ocean access near the house
Make yourself at home but make sure to leave everything tidy and clean as you found it when you walked in
This home and our experience was all around quite lovely! We were greated at the airport and delivered to this clean, spacious house that had spectacular views of the water. There was even a basket of treats waiting!
The neighborhood had a nice cafe and a lovely market on a nearby corner. As we spoke very (very!) little Portugese, it was quite helpful to be directed towards a shop where the couple spoke English. And while there wasn't too much to do in the town itself, it turned out to be a fantastic jumping off point for all the things we wanted to do on the island. Our goal for this holiday was to explore rather than walk out our back door to sit on the beach for a week, so the was perfect. It was a comfortable and quite place to come home to in the evenings and to enjoy the sound of the water and the sun in the mornings before we left.
And let's not forget how kind Maria and Ernesto are! They were fantastic hosts and really willing to help with anything at all we needed or had questions about.
Overall a fantastic stay!!!
We had a wonderful stay at Maria's Enchanted House by the Sea. The photos give an accurate depiction of the house but don't do justice to its charm. We traveled in January and although we were a bit chilly when sitting around in the evening, the house was comfortable for sleeping. We ate most of our meals in, and Maria has furnished the house with everything we needed. With a car, we found the location perfect for going to great hiking spots. Thank you Maria for meeting us at the airport and sharing your lovely house.
Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to meet with Maria personally, because she had a trip just during our stay in Fenais da Luz. Her friend picked us up in Ponta Delgada and introduced us to the house. The weather was a bit coldish during our stay in Azores, so it was a bit cold in the house too. Fortunately there was a heater that we could turn on for the night. The house is huge, and beautiful, with nice location in a small village.
What a lovely time we had at the Enchanted House By the Ocean. Maria was waiting to greet my wife and me at the airport, and waited for us to complete our car rental before leading us to Fenais da Luz and the Enchanted House for our nine-day stay. The space was just wonderful, exceeding our expectations in many ways: beautiful views, nicely appointed modern kitchen and bathrooms, comfortable, spacious high-ceilinged rooms with plenty of light, and a much appreciated new heater for cooler December evenings! Aside from the welcoming fresh (and delicious) locally grown pineapple and bottle of Portuguese wine, there were lots of maps and pamphlets addressing multiple interests. To our great surprise, when the propane tank which supplies the water heater ran out, we emailed Maria, who had a person there literally within minutes to replace the empty one. Very impressive, showing Maria's sincere concern for here guests' comfort. All in all, we were VERY impressed, and would certainly HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Enchanted House. Thank you, Maria.
Maria the host was excellent. She met us at the airport and showed us the way to the house (we followed her in our rental car). I was tired and slightly confused from flying all night and being in a foreign country, and she was very patient with me, and very friendly and helpful.
The house was wonderful. Very similar to how it's portrayed in the photos and listing. Historic, tasteful, and right by the water. We visited in December and the waves were big and beautiful, and I'd watch them from the windows every morning while I sipped coffee, or just walk a few feet down to the sea wall. What fun.
There is not too much within walking distance to the house but it's a nice neighborhood. You can walk to a little market where they have fresh, local fruits (try the pineapple!). You should rent a car. The house is centrally located so it's easy to drive to all the different parts of the island.
And she wasn't joking about the fisherman selling you fish. They come by on a little motorcycle cart thing and beep. There was also a guy selling fruit out of a truck.
Maria was very welcoming! She waited for us at the airport and guided us to the enchanted home. She gave us all the information needed. And the neughborood was very homy; like a true azores village . I Will recommend the experience
My friend Noelle and I just returned from the Azores and part of our stay was spent at Maria's lovely house by the ocean. This home has beautiful views of the ocean, ample space (we were only two, but you could easily be comfortable with a family and friends here for a week), parking, and is a terrific starting point from which to explore the Sete Cidades, Lagoa de Fogo, and Mosteiros, to name a few.
The home and views were only matched by our very gracious (and equally beautiful) host, Maria. From the moment we arrived, she endeavored to make our stay memorable. We received freshly-baked bread, local cheeses and jams upon our arrival. My friend Noelle is co-owner of a gourmet jam brand in Detroit, and Maria, knowing of this, put her in touch with friends on the island who also produced jam. Sadly, we missed out on the opportunity to spend time meeting with them due to schedule conflicts and a tight itinerary; however, the sentiment was certainly not lost. Maria also played taxi driver to us one evening and drove us to Ponta Delgada to enjoy a meal at Tasca (a must for the foodies out there!). Her recommendations were spot-on and we cannot say enough good things about the island, the home, and our host. We definitely would return and hope to in the near future.
Thank you, thank you Maria!
