Interaction with Guests
I live on-site and would love to be there to greet you and guide you in your stay, when I'm not off at my community garden nearby!
The neighborhood can be hard to find, for some, but we think it's a total gem - not downtown proper, so parking is a cinch, but within walking distance of most of the epic sites like Sun Studio and Stax. The street is quiet and surrounded by local nonprofits like the Memphis Interfaith Association and the Memphis Food Bank. We'd love to do a voluntour, if you're interested in giving back while you're here!
We know you're going places and we love to help you get around! We've got tons of on-site parking for the drivers out there. If you're on foot, the house is within a few blocks of eight different bus lines, 1.5 miles from downtown, 0.4 miles from the trolley and just a short ways to catch the free shuttle to Graceland from Sun Studio! We also highly recommend Lyft, which just rolled out in Memphis :)
Other Things to Note
PLEASE, oh please bear with us, as I just moved into this place and it’s over 100 YEARS OLD. My wonderful friend Andy is my partner in crime as an innkeeper, and we're still getting the hang of things. He's got an adorable dog, Bentley who might come visit, as well. One day we hope to turn the house into a nonprofit center, so any support you give us gets us closer to changing this city for the better!
Smoking is completely cool outside on our spacious front porch and pets are allowed, as long as they're cuddly and you clean up after them if they have accidents ^_~
Jamie was an excellent host and even packed me a trail mix snack for the road when I left.
Jamie was really sweet and welcoming! The house is huge and definitely old, but she's made it into a charming and warm place with lots of cool, funky decorations. My bed was comfortable with very soft sheets and the fireplace was really warm and cozy. Bring earplugs - there is a train nearby that whistles a lot! Both bathrooms are easily accessible and clean. Parking was great - right behind the house. The coffee in the morning was delicious and Jamie gave me a bag of trail mix on my way out.
I drove nearly nine hours to Memphis from Asheville all hyped up on caffeine and I was ready to crash. Though she had booked someone else in the Elvis room, Jamie set me up in the Aretha room which was just as lovely! I was pretty indifferent about this, but she still brought Elvis into the room, ha! She made me feel that she was genuinely happy to have me! Though I spent 11 hours of my stay sleeping, it was comfortable, welcoming, and just an over all grand experience. Would love to stay here again when I'm more capable of actually existing in the moment. :-)
What can I say about Jamie? She's simply the best! She's such a sweetheart, she made my stay in Memphis perfect. The house is beautiful with lots of cozy places to hang out, including the kitchen where Jamie prepared the most delicious breakfasts! The rooms were just as in the pictures and the two bathrooms more than enough for everybody. I didn't have a car, so I had to use Uber. It wasn't at all expensive - just $4 to Beale street - and very effective. I loved this place and Jamie and if I ever come back to Memphis I'll def stay here again!!
Room was spacious and comfortable, especially loved the adjustable fireplace on some cold nights! Jamie was a great hostess...willing to offer recommendations and info about the area and leaving notes on the door. She does have a dog, who is very friendly and playful, so people with allergies might want to try another place. To echo others' comments, the bed was a bit noisy, but comfortable! Having off-street parking was a bonus. The location was perfect for my med center interview.
Jaime was such a fantastic hostess. She was very accommodating of my late arrival. After she stopped in to check that everything was in order for me and show me around the place, I loved just sitting and talking with her about all the things to do in Memphis. Its and older house so it can get a bit chilly in the winter, but my room had its own gas fireplace so I spend a good bit of time curled up by it with a good book. Not exactly in a neighborhood with the best curb appeal, but I felt safe. Big downside of Memphis is that it's very spread out and thus not very conducive to walking to the major attractions. That goes without saying that this place isn't exactly all that close to attractions either, but I was able to walk to my interview at Methodist hospital. If you have a car, your set.
We absolutely LOVED Bo Dudley, the cutest old house in Memphis. Jamie gave us all the information we needed to get in and get comfortable. We didn't meet her, but she left us a note and a little snack of two moon pies to welcome us. In the morning, we wandered downstairs and found a fresh pot of coffee and some delicious pomegranate bread waiting for us. The whole place made us want to redecorate our own house in mid-century modern eclectic meets victorian yard sale in the absolute best way. The bed, it should be noted, was curiously noisy. Like sleeping on newspaper. But it was warm and roomy and we found the sound more amusing than irritating.

I once sat on a poisonous caterpillar. So if you are a poisonous caterpillar, I'd watch yourself around me. Otherwise, I'm a big goof and love to fuss over people :)
