Large apartment in Alpine setting

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Route De Saint Gervais, Les Contamines Montjoie, Rhône-Alpes 74170, France

The Space

The Auberge du Chalezan apartment is large and airy, with traditional style decoration in keeping with the chalet and beautiful Alpine setting. It has large vaulted ceilings showing the exposed wood and beautiful beams.
There are two bedrooms both with ensuites. Bedroom one has a balcony and a double bed, while bedroom two has a large window overlooking Mont Joly and two twin beds, either for singles or put together to use as a double. All the beds are freshly made up prior to your arrival and towels are supplied.
In the living room there is a balcony and access to your own terrace with a ski locker for the winter and outdoor seating and a BBQ for the summer months, overlooking alpine pastures with cows grazing in the spring or ready for sleding and snowmen in the winter!
The living room has loads of books, DVDs and maps at your disposal along with a TV (local and UK satellite) and wi-fi internet. There is a settee and a large sofa bed either to sleep an additional 2 people or just lots of comfy seating to relax after your day's activities...
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need to make it feel like a home away from home:
gas oven, 4-ring hob, microwave, raclette/fondu machines,
dining table with seating for 4-6 people, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, even a French press cafetière and all the pots/pans and plates to go with!

There is a fresh bread delivery service to the front door (at no extra cost) serving you the best French croissants for breakfast without you having to lift a finger!
There is also a laundry service: clothes washed and dried and delivered back to you.

The Chalet is in the village of Les Contamines Montjoie, a beautiful traditional ski resort in the winter months and, in the summer, home to walkers/ mountaineers and anyone after some fresh air and relaxation! Les Contamines is a great little village and, as the French call it, the 'best kept secret' just a few kilometers from famous Chamonix. Les Contmaines offers all the amazing skiing you would expect from this part of the world, but without all the people and without having to waste precious ski-ing time in queues!
There are loads of lovely little restaurants up on the hill, some just converted old wooden chalets with open fires serving mulled wine, some offering waiter service and 3-course meals. Whatever your needs, there will be something to suit you.

The resort of Contamines offers fantastic skiing for all levels, available on the same ski pass as St Gervais and Megeve. The ski domaine is just huge, offering a half pipe and ski/board park as well as hosting the world cup ski-a cross every year and the biathlon for nordic skiing; needless to say the facilities for nordic skiing are unbeatable!
There are lots of walks for snow shoeing, all well sign posted and maintained (some of which actually leave from the chalet door!).
There are husky dog sled rides in Contamines as well as moonlit horse and sled rides. You can eat in a mountain restaurant with sledging activities included!

In the summer the list of activities is endless: hiking, paragliding, river rafting, rock climbing, swimming in mountain lakes, horse riding, trail running (the amazing UTMB runs literally straight past the door!) and so many more, please just ask me for more ideas...

It is also a fabulous place to relax, beautiful wild flowers to admire and two spas just down the (website hidden) Gervais is actually a natural spa town - the amazing 'Thermes' offer outdoor heated whirlpools and full spa treatments.
The main village itself has loads of yummy restaurants offering the classic pizza to more traditional local foods (cheese!) or steaks, we even have a michelin star, gastro restaurant.

The shops offer all you might need during your stay, whether it be stocking up on local wine or a new ski outfit! In the winter you can hire skis locally and, in the summer, mountain bikes or tennis rackets.

The main selling point of this area for me is that you get the best of both worlds: the Chalet is near the main road, so easy access and it's a two minute walk from the free bus service that runs to and from the village/ski lift, and yet it's so close to nature: we are on the edge of the forest so deer come down and are often seen eating in the huge field that backs on to our garden. There are so many walks leading straight from the chalet, as long and as hard as you like, for example, just 2 hours from our door is a stunning alpine village called Miage, with its breathtaking, chocolate box scenery and cows grazing on alpine pastures!

We have a snow clearing contract in the winter and, in the summer, all the lawns are mowed and flowers watered, to make it easy for guests, but also a beautiful spot to be in.

I am passionate about this area as it has so much going for it -there's just so much to do! Living here all year round is a privilege.

  • Notre séjour s'est très bien passé. Le chalet est très joli, bien chauffé et bien équipé. Nous avons bien apprécié le pain livré à domicile. Bon accueil.

  • Great place to stay in the French Alps! My kids enjoyed all the space both indoors and out, especially the sledding hill out back.

  • Louise was very helpful during our stay. The apartment was very clean and well appointed. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Louise's apartment!

  • We had nice time in the Louise Apartment, the location is great, Loiuse is very available. The apartment is clean, confortable and spacious. The garden is nice and it is a very rare setting, with a good quality price for this area. Barbecue is available upon request, the apartment is very silent, we went there with a one month baby and it was perfect for him and very relaxing also for us.
The apartment is particularily suited if you are a family with children, Louise and her sister organized a weekly baby massage sessions in their apartment!
We have been very satisfied from the experience and would surely advice it!

If you really has to find a drawback to the apartment is that the house is a bit near to the main road, but it is not a very heavy traffic road. Just not expect to be isolated in a high mountain chalet surrounded only by green fields and cows...

  • We had a great time in this perfect location. Louise gave us good information about local activities that suited our family. The flat is nice and cosy with everything you need including bread delivered. The garden is large and nice eating outdoors in summer. We liked the fact you can head off for a hike straight out the door or drive a short distance for many other trails. Taffy the dog is happy to play catch with the children for hours!
The area is stunning with so many activities to do.

Thanks Louise for being such a great host.

  • We loved our stay at Louise's beautiful apartment! We are a family of four, and this apartment was just perfect for us. It is very nice and quiet, and it is located in a beautiful area. The kitchen is well equipped and we were able to cook our meals there and eat them outside on the beautiful terasse. And the beds are very comfortable!

Louise is a great host. She made great recommendations: for a local restaurant we would never have found on our own, for a daily outing to Chamonix, and for great hikes (you don't even have to use your car!). Her personal touch made our stay in the Alps so wonderful.

I highly recommend this apartment and hope to come back one day.

  • This is a dream house, extremely comfy and pretty, everything you need for THE perfect family getaway.
I haven't met with Louise unfortunately but the communication was extremely easy going and efficient. We spent 2 nights in the chalet and although the weather wasn't the best we could expect (understatement of the year), we had a great time. Both rooms are big and cosy, each ensuite, the kitchen is well equipped so you can actually really cook your meals, heating was perfect and all was clean and welcoming.
I would love to say "don't go there!" so we can keep this place available but I won't... It's only the 3rd time around that the place was actually available so please, let's keep it a secret amongst ourselves... :-))

  • We had such a warm welcome here-from the goats, chickens, dog, the mountains & especially Louise. The chalet has a very comfortable and cozy feel to it. Louise has a lovely personality. She really knows the area & has fantastic suggestions. She is able to really speak to tourists—very cultured & able to relate. The personal attention we received made us feel very welcomed. Slippers were provided, the room/apartment was clean, the location was incredible. There is a refreshing stream nearby to enjoy walking by & countless trails to hike if interested.

  • Louise is a star of a host! I can't say enough nice things. We had a wonderful time staying in the apartment upstairs in her traditional alpine lodge. We were 5 and it was plenty of space, really cozy, and a perfect location with great views. Less than 30 min to Chamonix, near the nice village of Les Contamines (very walkable). Louise was lovely and greeted us warmly, helped with any questions, gave us suggestions, and even made a dinner reservation for us at a fantastic restaurant which we never would have found on our own! All in all a fantastic experience, I really hope to go back!
