Interaction with guests

I currently live in Canada and i have a great house keeper (Marla) and a house cleaner (Ana) who take very good care of the house for you.

The area around San Gerardo de Rivas used to be the sanctuary for native people before the colonization period. Therefore an amazing energy can be felt in those mystical mountains. Even some people talk about a vortex area. You have to feel it to get how it is powerful !

Absolutely stunning views! You feel like you are staying in a tree house up in the mountains. If you need a place to escape reality and relax in the mountains, I would definitely recommend Anouk's place!

The house is OK, but outdated, not very well equipped and smelled a bit moldy. There are no mosquito nets so bugs are attracted by the lights in the house. Gaps between the windows and wall allow bugs to get in. The directions to get to the house were clear, but we could not get there with our 4x4 car. The last bit of the road (right after the bridge) was in such bad condition (steep, slippery, narrow with big holes) that we/the car could not make it up. Had to carry our luggages from the hotel, about 10-15 minutes walk. Do not choose this house if you like to sleep in. The rooster next door is pretty loud starting at around 3 or 4 AM. The neighbor revving a quad's engine before dawn does not help either. On the other hand, the hikes in the Cloudforest ((URL HIDDEN) and Chirripo park are awesome. The hot-spring (i.e. outdoor natural jacuzzi) for $10 per person, not so much.

The instructions Anouk gave for the house were very helpful. The view from the house is beautiful and it has a rustic feel. The couple at the hotel where you pick up the key were very sweet and helpful as well. Anouk reccomends not to find the place after dark, and she is correct! We had to get there after dark and it was very tricky finding the place but we managed. However speaking from experience I wouldn't reccomend it either.

Looking back at the listing, the host does an accurate enough job of describing the home, but it was still a little more rugged than I had expected. A lot of the walls are not sealed tightly, so the creepy-crawly things have free reign over the place (though this shouldn't be unexpected in CR). The beds were fairly small with uncomfortable mattresses... the best part about sleeping here was the temperature, as it was much cooler here than anywhere else in the country. The views were incredible though, and the decks are certainly the main attraction. Be warned, the road up to the house is not for the faint of heart; but, once I got a hang of the 4WD, things went easily enough. We didn't meet Anouk, but the caretakers, Marla and Francisco at El Descanso Hotel, were very accommodating and even provided a very reasonably priced laundry service for us (cheaper than paying for a 2nd checked bag on the airplane). The kitchen is serviceable and there are a couple of good restaurants on the other side of the river. So, if you are the rugged, outdoorsy type, this is a good place to stay, but it has few luxuries to offer.

Response from Anouk:
Sorry to ear you had a sleepless night. I have been renting my house for many years by word of mouth and other online services, and this is the first comment i received regarding the beds. The mattresses in my house are the same that you will find in local "cabinas" hotels and homes in Costa-rica (which are not the high quality ones that most people have in North America). As you mentioned, the presence of insects in Costa-rica is part of the experience. If you stay somewhere in Central America and you don't see insects around you, then you should be scared because there are good chances it was spayed with insecticides. Nevertheless, i appreciate your comments. Anouk :)

Good place, a little bit far from the bottom of the trail in my opinion. Also a little pricey for what it is, but very charming at the end ! Thanks to the neighbors !

Simply AMAZING!!!! In those days Anouk and her family weren't at home and I had all the house for me. I love this house and Anouk is so friendly and helpful. The house is clean and cozy. The view is incredible. The kitchen is equipped for cooking in the wild forest. If you are in San Gerardo probably you like trekking so, don't worry for the little uphill, it's worth!! Thank you Anouk

I love the mountains and i'm a nature lover!
I try to go in the forest at least 3 times a week with my daughter and my dog -sometimes with my husband when he's not at work. We love to hike, cross country ski, bike and observe the nature!
