Interaction with Guests
I currently live in Canada and i have a great house keeper (Marla) and a house cleaner (Ana) who take care of the house for you.
The house is located on the top of a mountain with an amazing view on the valley, the river and the mountains. It's a quiet place with few neighbors. Ana, who lives in front of the house will be more than happy to help you if you need anything.
She offers a laundry service for a small charge.
You can get to the house by bus (there are 4 buses per day coming to San Gerardo de Rivas) or if you rent a car, you will need a 4x4.
There is a parking on site.
Other Things to Note
The area around San Gerardo de Rivas used to be the sanctuary for native people before the colonization period. Therefore an amazing energy can be felt in those mystical mountains. Even some people talk about a vortex area. You have to feel it to get how it is powerful !
You can smoke outside.
The instructions Anouk gave for the house were very helpful. The view from the house is beautiful and it has a rustic feel. The couple at the hotel where you pick up the key were very sweet and helpful as well. Anouk reccomends not to find the place after dark, and she is correct! We had to get there after dark and it was very tricky finding the place but we managed. However speaking from experience I wouldn't reccomend it either.
Looking back at the listing, the host does an accurate enough job of describing the home, but it was still a little more rugged than I had expected. A lot of the walls are not sealed tightly, so the creepy-crawly things have free reign over the place (though this shouldn't be unexpected in CR). The beds were fairly small with uncomfortable mattresses... the best part about sleeping here was the temperature, as it was much cooler here than anywhere else in the country. The views were incredible though, and the decks are certainly the main attraction. Be warned, the road up to the house is not for the faint of heart; but, once I got a hang of the 4WD, things went easily enough. We didn't meet Anouk, but the caretakers, Marla and Francisco at El Descanso Hotel, were very accommodating and even provided a very reasonably priced laundry service for us (cheaper than paying for a 2nd checked bag on the airplane). The kitchen is serviceable and there are a couple of good restaurants on the other side of the river. So, if you are the rugged, outdoorsy type, this is a good place to stay, but it has few luxuries to offer.
Sorry to ear you had a sleepless night. I have been renting my house for many years by word of mouth and other online services, and this is the first comment i received regarding the beds. The mattresses in my house are the same that you will find in local "cabinas" hotels and homes in Costa-rica (which are not the high quality ones that most people have in North America). As you mentioned, the presence of insects in Costa-rica is part of the experience. If you stay somewhere in Central America and you don't see insects around you, then you should be scared because there are good chances it was spayed with insecticides. Nevertheless, i appreciate your comments.
