All good. It's a very nice hotel. Just some weird noises at night from time to time. Not human caused, rather some wrong piping or so. Wifi not always working.
Great place, great location, good value. Would def stay again.
Dana's timeshare is the near perfect downtown SF spot. It has all the amenities of a hotel yet the room is much more homey. You get dishes, a wine glasses, a normal fridge, a small kitchen, a sofa, etc. you are a block from Union Square, yet it is not noisy. And if you need any amenities, you can simply call downstairs as the place is a full service hotel as well. And did I mention live jazz downstairs? Just a perfect stay.
The room itself is great. Large, comfy, nice bed, separate living area with a couch and roller ottomans, refrigerator, full size bathroom with TV built into the mirror and it was well maintained, everything worked and was clean. A little noisy (I will get to that) but overall a great value.
Location was great also. It was walking distance to everything I needed, and a short walk to the BART to get to and from SFO. Borders the Tenderloin, but I never once felt unsafe or even remotely uncomfortable. Many, many dining and shopping experiences within walking distance and for my trip close to the location for business as well.
Hotel – it is a time-share, so there is that. I was not approached for a sales pitch. The staff was friendly, and tried to help but my only two concerns they were unable to do anything about.
Concern number one: the “high speed” internet in the room on the 5th floor consistently was only between 1.0 an 1.8 MBPS download speeds, and upload would hardly register but well under 1 MBPS, and pings took anywhere from 150-275 ms to return. This of course made work difficult and video chatting with my family virtually impossible. I inquired about this and the front desk informed me there was nothing they could do. Apparently, there are faster speeds at higher floors, but the 5th floor was the only room available when I checked in.
Concern number two: this is also about the 5th floor – being the heart of the city the higher floors are much quieter. The 5th floor is just above the street – and at times it was very loud, even in the early morning hours. Not horrible, but certainly enough to notice. The other issue with being on the 5th floor and noise is that there is a meeting room at the end of the hall on the 5th and as part of Oracle Open World/Java One someone had a reception party in that meeting room that ran until almost midnight. Noise was a factor from that as well.
Dana (host) was great. Very prompt, professional communication, anticipated my questions and concerns, and I would certainly book with Dana again.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay at the Donatello for its many advantages, although sounds like your visit was less than excellent. It is very important to read your airbnb host's house manual, in which case you would have placed a room request for a unit away from Post or Mason well in advance rather than be subject to room availability at check in. Union Square is quite bustling, so if sensitivity to exterior noise is an issue, room location is all the more important. As for internet, I am not sure why there was so much lag. Thanks much for the feedback!
Very nice hotel in the centre of town. Did not meet Dana, but she was very helpful over email in getting us the right paperwork to check in. Staff at the hotel were very friendly, and the room & bed were high quality. What a great find!
This studio was superb, couldn't have asked for anything more. It was super clean, modern, relaxing, and watching TV in the bath was a first!
It is within walking distance of everything including the Embarcadero, Union Square, Yerba Buena, Coit Tower, PacBell Ball Park, the Ferry Building, all with great outdoor eateries, and we had great weather to boot!
A very nice amenity was the charming Zingari bar/restaurant which has excellent food, happy hour specials, and a great bartender and live piano music that wafts through the lobby in the evenings.
Dana was a great host and very easy to deal with in making arrangements.
Will definitely stay here again - Thanks!
Wonderful experience! The location of the hotel was in close proximity to Union Square and everything downtown. Check-In was easy and Dana was very responsive to questions.
The room was clean and extremely well appointed (Definitely a lovely 4 star hotel!!) . Exceeded my expectations! Will be back!!!
