As you paddle across the bay, it is very common to see spinner dolphins swimming along side people snorkeling. In the winter months you may see whales breaching. Use caution when entering or exiting the channel or you just might huli your kanui!

We will be coming back here. It was a family trip, two dads, a brother and us. This house couldn't have been better for us.
The location was ideal. We didn't know much about the area when we reserved this house, and wow did we luck out. It's a very historic bay. It's incredibly beautiful. Wake up to spinner Dolphins swimming 50 yards away. Get on a kayak they provide and paddle out to meet them. You can snorkel along the shoreline or swim farther out to be with the dolphins. If you want a peaceful getaway, this would be a great choice. If you want to explore the entire island, this is a central place to go north and south.
I couldn't recommend this house and location more. I hated to leave and am already planning a trip back.
Wow. What a stunning property! Sitting right on Kealakekua Bay we had use of kayaks and boogie boards. We left the windows open all day and all night and listened to the waves hit the shore. It was so lovely. We watched the sun set every night from the wrap around porch on this traditional Hawaiian bungalow and it was never a disappointment. We will be back! A BIG MAHALO!

My family and I had a great trip. The house was as described, if not better than described. The house is a short drive from Kona. There are plenty of stores and restaurants nearby. It is a very quite relaxing place to stay. There were 7 of us in total and we had more than enough room. Amma was great and helped us with the house when we had any questions. We also had an amazing history lesson of the area from one of the owners. We took a kayak out to the Captain Cook memorial and did some of the best snorkeling I have done on the islands thus far. Also, if you wake up early, you can be enjoy your morning cup of coffee while watching spinner dolphins in the bay. Truly amazing. Not only was it a nice stay, but Amma was more than accommodating in letting us stay an extra hour while we were trying to leave the island just hours before Hurricane Iselle made landfall. I hope the house and all occupants are doing well after the storm and that other families get to spend their vacations here. If we come back to Big Island, we will definitely keep this house in mind. If you have a Cost-Co membership you can stock up on food and beverage in Kona and there is a local store nearby where you can by the needed toiletries.
Merlenna was always prompt with her email replies to our questions. The home was exactly as advertised. Very clean and spacious. Amma, the onsite manager was always available to answer questions but, never intrusive. Dave was extremely helpful with the kayaks, which we were able to use any time we wanted. The porch had to be our favorite spot as we listened to,the ocean waves and watched the beautiful sunsets. We reall had everything we needed to make this our most memorable and enjoyable spot on the Big Island. All of you, thank you.
