We warmly invite you to stay at our cozy seaside cottage in one of the most ideal locations along the Yachats oceanfront – just steps away from the northern end of the spectacular 804 Trail where it meets a seven mile stretch of sandy beach.
Enjoy the tranquil view of the Pacific Ocean from the comfort of the living room or while relaxing on the oceanside deck, with prevailing ocean winds mitigated by a sheltering grove of spruce trees.
The space
Small yet comfortable one-bedroom cottage with surprisingly spacious kitchen, living room, second living space for sleeping or contemplation, very compact but efficient shower-only bathroom with overhead 'rain shower head.' Please note that the shower stall is fairly small and may feel tight for some guests. The home also features a fenced-in backyard with decks, one covered, on three sides of the cottage.
Skylights and ocean-view windows provide ample daylight and are outfitted with privacy drapes and top-down/bottom-up translucent blinds that give you the option to block out everything but the sea, trees and sky. You can also gaze at the stars through the overhead skylight while relaxing in the living room.
We’ve done our best to make our cottage interior cozy and functional, yet uncluttered, with several options for warmth and comfort; including a propane wood-style stove, electric wall heaters in the living room and bathroom, an auxiliary electric oil-filled radiator space heater for the master bedroom, plus lots of throws and blankets.
In addition to the queen bed in the master bedroom, there is a full-size sleeper sofa in the living room and, in the second room, a daybed with trundle (pulls out for 2 twin beds!) that doubles as a comfortable reading nook with a serene view of the ocean.
The compact cottage and its special location are perfect for a couple’s getaway, a small family’s visit to the coast, or a few close friends on a weekend trip.
Guest access
Yachats is called the 'Gem of the Oregon Coast' for a reason! This sweet and welcoming town is situated along a spectacular stretch of the Pacific Ocean and offers a widely diverse range of attractions for its small size.
Bordered to the east by the Siuslaw National Forest, Yachats is near the jagged, rocky flanks of the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, the highest point accessible by car on the Oregon coast, just 2 miles south of the Yachats River. Here you can hike the network of old-growth forest trails, watch migrating whales from the visitor center, admire the ocean’s power as manifested by crashing surf and exploding water spouts at high tide, or explore rich and varied tide pool life at low tide – well worth the trip year-round!
The town itself is a fun, laid-back place that attracts artists, free spirits, and civically-minded folk, with a variety of discoveries to be made among the local eateries, shops, walking paths, and community spaces as you mingle with friendly locals and delighted visitors. Yachatians put a lot of care into making their community a vibrant, inclusive, and unique place, and it is evident everywhere. Exploring nearby towns, parks, mountains, forests, shorelines, beaches, lighthouses and dunes along the coast will further enhance your visit.
We provide recommendations in our guest binder in case you need any suggestions for things to do or see. We warmly welcome LGBTQ+ and all to share this truly special place to explore, relax and re-energize. We love it here and know you will too!
Other things to note
Amenities:
We provide you with all the essentials, such as bed linens, bath towels, toilet paper, paper towels, soap, shampoo & conditioner, etc. – even beach towels that you’re welcome to use on the beach! We also provide coffee (plus a few brewing options) and tea.
Please note - there is NO dishwasher or washer / dryer in the cottage, unfortunately! Dishes are handwash only. We do provide drying racks for this purpose.
Entertainment:
There is strong Wi-Fi, an Amazon Alexa virtual assistant, plenty of games & puzzles, a Samsung “Smart” 4K TV that will enable you to connect to most popular streaming services, such as Netflix, Hulu, or Prime Video (using your personal log-in), and a Sony 4K Blu-Ray/DVD player for which we have provided a selection of our personal DVD movies for your enjoyment. You can also rent DVD movies at the eclectic Ya-Hots Video Country Store located in the heart of town.
The Kitchen:
The efficient kitchen is well equipped with a propane gas stove/oven/broiler, microwave oven, refrigerator/freezer, toaster, slow cooker, electric tea kettle, French press coffee maker, coffee bean grinder, blender, and electric milk frother/foamer/warmer. You are amply supplied with pots, pans, knives, utensils, mugs, glasses, bowls, dishes and silverware you will need for most of your meals. Coffee, a variety of teas, and salt & pepper are also provided as standard for your enjoyment.
Relationship with the Environment:
It is important to note that we are on a septic system, as is the entire area just outside of the City of Yachats proper, and appreciate our guests to be conscious of that. In respect for our natural environment, we use NO harsh chemicals such as drain cleaners or bleach, and we ask that our guests do the same. PLEASE FLUSH NOTHING but toilet paper along with the obvious. PLEASE DO NOT FLUSH sanitary napkins/tampons but rather dispose of them, along with any foreign objects, in the trash.
Food waste can be particularly harmful to the friendly bacteria in a septic system. An easily removed filter strainer has been placed in the kitchen sink to prevent food, coffee grounds, etc. from going down the drain - PLEASE keep it there! In addition, you will find a clearly marked container under the sink for safe disposal of grease and oils. NOTHING is to go down the kitchen drain except water!
Be conscientious with your water use - feel free to use what you need but be mindful to shut off any faucets when not in use and avoid excessively long showers. There is an on/off button above the shower head to control water flow while lathering, etc. The on-demand hot water heater will also facilitate your water conservation.
This is a smoke-free environment. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING OF ANYTHING INSIDE THE COTTAGE!
Pets:
DOGS are welcome (sorry, no cats - but I’m sure they’d rather stay home anyway), so please tell me a little about your dog (age/size/breed) to get pre-approval. TWO DOG LIMIT.
However, PLEASE be very careful to not let your dog(s) dig in our fenced-in backyard, keeping an especially close eye on known diggers! Digging within the drain field could cause serious damage to the septic system. The nearby beach however offers endless opportunities for irrepressible diggers!
The only other thing we ask is that you be mindful of the impact of your dog on the interior of the cottage, particularly if your dog is a heavy shedder or tracks sand and dirt inside. We provide 'dog' towels to wipe down your dog after a romp at the beach or in the yard, as well as 'dog' sheets to cover the furniture or the bed to keep them as clean as possible during your stay. Thank you for being considerate!
Parking:
There is ample available parking with two (potentially even three) front-to-back spaces in the driveway and two street spaces in front of the cottage.
Accessibility:
This cottage is not ADA accessible. There are 3 short steps up to the deck leading to the front door, and 3 to 4 steps off the back decks, depending on which way you go. There are no steps inside the cottage itself. The shower is very compact and stand-up only, with no railing or tub. Access to the beach requires going down a flight of wooden steps, when they are seasonally in place.
State/County Rules &Taxes:
Please note that Lincoln County rental rules (such as quiet hours and parking) must be followed. These rules will be posted inside the house as well as within the Airbnb information binder.
Lincoln County requires a short-term rental tax of 12% that we pay ourselves on your behalf so you will not receive any additional charges for this county tax. However, you will see a separate 1.5% Oregon state lodging tax charge that is collected automatically by Airbnb.
