Most unique experience I've had so far. When do you ever get the chance to live on a boat in your life. For me, it was definitely once in a lifetime. Michèle was a great host, she was very kind and easygoing and even recommended places to visit and showed us how to get there. I heard she's getting a new boathouse so do check it out if you plan to stay in Amsterdam.
Lovely host, good communication & abit old houseboat but great experience for us. Thanks Michele , we are enjoying the stay :)
Just got back from staying at Michele's lovely houseboat in Amsterdam from February 21-27 2014. The boat was so charming and had all the necessary amenities.
It was in a great location that was about a 25-minute walk to the train station if you're interested in exploring, but the tram picks you up two blocks from the boat as well and takes about 10 minutes. The actual neighbourhood where the boat is docked is safe, peaceful, and scenic. The museum quarter and Vondel Park are within a 10-minute walk and there is a supermarket just a few minutes away. Coffee shops and nice bars are scattered around the area.
Even though we stayed on the boat during winter, the space heaters provided were sufficient enough! I would recommend bringing slippers or comfortable shoes, however, because the tile floor in the kitchen was cold. The plumbing was advanced and the water pressure was great and the hot water would survive two showers back-to-back.
Michele's boat is the perfect place to stay if you're looking to get a true-to-life experience in Amsterdam. It was tidy and warm with lots of character. If you're looking to see as much as possible and explore Amsterdam it is ideal. While some hotels would have been cheaper, there's just nothing that compares to staying on a boat on a canal in Amsterdam.
Thanks, again, Michele! I'll be returning to Amsterdam as soon as I can (since I fell in love) and would LOVE to stay with you again.
Accomodation was nice, basic, authentic. Walking distance from Concertgebouw and museumplein. Friendly hosts. We slept very well. Wonderful breakfast place around the corner.
The reservation was canceled 70 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
My host Michele was delightful, informative and helpful. The houseboat was a unique experience and perfectly placed within walking distance from all the main point of interest in the area. While a bit cramped and drafty I found my stay enjoyable though I would not recommend older adults stay at this location due to climbing the ladder to the bed and the accessibility to the toilet.
My 2 days stay on board as guest of Michelle were the best choose for me. Everything is good and clean, albeit as simple as a true sailor would expect and appreciate.
From the comfortable, wide (good42) berth, 1,2 m above floor, you see the channel, the passing and the staying boats, the houses, and the sky, with a variety of changing natural and electrical lights, and their reflection into the moving water. Just two palms from your pillow...
Rare slow passing boats cause minimum, hardly perceivable waves, yet able to lull you gently and to remind you that you are onto the water. Just imagine the sea and channel travels of this old heavy boat - perhaps 100 years ago...
Michelle and Niels were nice and helpful. I felt really at home and will definitely come back.
In febraury I slept in warmer berths and cabins. Yet, with warm cloths, this is never a problem.
Great location, old houseboat but an experience.
