About this listing
Dating back from the XVIII century, Sestelo manor-house is located in the heart of Minho, the birthplace of Portugal and the land of Vinho Verde (green wine). Located in the county of Cabeceiras de Basto, less than one hour driving from Porto, Sestelo was once the house of a Portuguese nobleman recently restored to include all the amenities of modern life.
The house old stables were converted into 3 duplex apartments, each with a double or twin bed room, 2 bathrooms with shower, a kitchenette and a living room with a double sofa bed, air-conditioning and TV.
All apartments have use of the swimming pool and of the panoramic terrace, overlooking the vineyard, were you can relax with a glass of “Vinho Verde” after exploring the region. The property is surrounded by vineyards, a watermill, the manor-house chapel, olive trees, fresh water fountains and the “Levada”, and old irrigation channel that you can follow until it enters the mountain.
Come and experience one of the most enchanting regions of Portugal were time has stopped and tradition still dwells in the habits of people.
All cottages are rented with linen and towels as well as towels to use in the swimming pool.
The kitchen is equipped so that you may prepare light meals or have breakfast in the house.
The swimming pool is shared among all guests as is the terrace so if you intend to have your meals outside, take care not to leave dirty dishes or garbage in the area so that others may enjoy the space as well.
The garbage is collected every morning by the house caretaker. Please help us to preserve the environment by recycling your garbage. We have a set of recycling bins next to the cleaning storage to help you with this.
Cleaning service is provided once a week, normally on Fridays or when guests check out. Cleaning utensils are also available in the storage next to the apartment. These are shared among the guests so please return them to their original place after use.
The water used in the houses comes directly from the water springs that feed the property. Please do not drink tap water as it has not been tested for human consumption. You may find potable spring water in the fountain next to the lake.
Most people seek Casa de Sestelo to rest and have a relaxing holiday with their family, so please try to be respectful of other guests and of their space and keep the noise level to a minimum during the night.

Senhor Oliveira (Maria's Father) was a perfect host as she unfortunatelly was not
In town during our stay.
I hope to come back sometime in The future.
Because we were The only 2 guests during The mid week days spent there it felt great to "own" The Quinta Sestelo for a few days!
We did not have the opportunity to meet Maria however we were met by her father and had a wonderful basket of food given to us by her Mother. The location is difficult to find the first time but is absolutely magnificent! The area is beautiful!
Staying at Casa de Sestelo, Arinto Cottage with Maria as a host was just marvelous. We enjoyed the scenic surroundings tremendously. Maria made sure we were all set on everything from lovely treats to great informations of the area. We loved our stay and Will love to come back to this particular spot.
Casa de Sestelo really is a beautiful place to be! Although Maria could not be there at my arrival (I arrived late at night) she took care of a warm welcome in the lovely Arinto Cottage with a basket of fruit, fresh bread, butter, a bottle of wine and a plate of delicious small tartlets. All the Cottages are very well equipped, not only concerning the furniture (a baby bed for my 2-year-old was provided without problems), but also in details: you will find towels for the bathroom AND the pool, in the kitchen there are coffee, sugar, salt, dishcloths etc. Compared to other holiday houses this is perfect, you won't have to bring or buy all this stuff yourself.
The whole property is well managed, clean, with the historic charm of an old quinta and quite convenient if you are travelling with children. My son loved to play at the fountain, the water channel and of course the pool. Since the complex has gates that can be closed, he could not get lost and I enjoyed very much to let him run around without concerns.
The only really small demerit is that you definitely will need a car to get there and to get around, because the place is in a rural region hidden in vineyards. But then, that's the beauty of it! Highly recommended!
We had a fabulous stay at Casa de Sestelo. Maria was a wonderful host - meeting us nearby to guide us through the narrow lanes to the semi-secluded farm complex - very picturesque, cottages have all facitities needed for great stay. She made sure we were well informed about the area providing maps and infomation (although that didn't stop us getting lost in the rural lanes occasionally!). The pool was great, the ambience was ideal for a few days rest and some local exploring. Maria's parents also were great hosts, appearing regularly with fruit, meals and baking. we would come back in a flash, for our next holiday.
La casa de sestelo est bien située pour quelqu'un qui souhaite explorer cette région. Très confortable, bien soignée et accueil chaleureux et délicieux (avec les petits pains offerts). Maria est attentionnée et généreuse de ses suggestions.
