About this listing

The space

Dating back from the XVIII century, Sestelo manor-house is located in the heart of Minho, the birthplace of Portugal and the land of Vinho Verde (green wine). Located in the county of Cabeceiras de Basto, less than one hour driving from Porto, Sestelo was once the house of a Portuguese nobleman recently restored to include all the amenities of modern life.

The house old stables were converted into 3 duplex apartments, each with a double or twin bed room, 2 bathrooms with shower, a kitchenette and a living room with a double sofa bed, air-conditioning and TV.

All apartments have use of the swimming pool and of the panoramic terrace, overlooking the vineyard, were you can relax with a glass of “Vinho Verde” after exploring the region. The property is surrounded by vineyards, a watermill, the manor-house chapel, olive trees, fresh water fountains and the “Levada”, and old irrigation channel that you can follow until it enters the mountain.

Come and experience one of the most enchanting regions of Portugal were time has stopped and tradition still dwells in the habits of people.

This place is incredible. Nestled between vineyards and mountains, in completely green surroundings, with only the sound of a mountain water spring used as an irrigation system. It is a true escape for those seeking quiet. The pool area was wonderful, and bringing drinking water from the old fountain that carries spring water from the mountain was one of our children's favorite tasks. The hosts met us with an abundant basket overflowing with local delicacies and home-made breads, cheeses, and wine. They were also very generous in providing information about local sites worth visiting with the children. This is a good base from which to explore the many wonders of northern Portugal, I highly recommend it.

This is quite a unique property - beatifully restored 18th century manor house set amongs well tended grape vines in a scenic rural area. We only had three nights but would have enjoyed a week and some warm weather to laze around the pool. The welcoming basket was amazing! - fruits, breads, pastries, and wine from the property. The arpartment is very well appointed, spacious and luxurious. Was a real pleasure coming home to it. Maria and her family very welcoming and communicated well. The place is difficult to find first time around but Maria drove us in to ensure we didn't get lost. A great place to stay.

I just spent with my family a very peaceful and relaxing week at the Casa de Sestelo. The domaine is full of charm and history, it really looks as it is displayed. Even though the house is well hidden in the mountains and surrounded by vineyards, the place is also well located to visit touristic spots such as Porto, Guimaraes, the Douro valley and many others within an hour by car. At last, Maria and Filipe were really kind to share with us all the things to do near by including the good stuff to eat and drink from their region thanks to their welcome basket.

Our family (2 adults and 2 children) spent two weeks staying at Casa de Sestelo in July 2015 and can honestly say the welcome, the accommodation and the location itself exceeded all our expectations. Maria and Filipe were hospitable, warm, friendly and full of advice on places to explore. The location of the property is beautiful and very tranquil with stunning scenery. The photographs here don't do it justice and it is extraordinarily well- maintained and cared for; and the basket of local goods we received on arrival was most welcome and thoroughly enjoyed. I'd have no hesitation in recommending Casa de Sestelo - and wIthout question we would stay again. If you're looking for somewhere to relax, explore Northern Portugal and get 'off the grid' for a little while - then this is the place!

We did not have the opportunity to meet Maria however we were met by her father and had a wonderful basket of food given to us by her Mother. The location is difficult to find the first time but is absolutely magnificent! The area is beautiful!

Staying at Casa de Sestelo, Arinto Cottage with Maria as a host was just marvelous. We enjoyed the scenic surroundings tremendously.
