About this listing

The space

Dating back from the XVIII century, Sestelo manor-house is located in the heart of Minho, the birthplace of Portugal and the land of Vinho Verde (green wine). Located in the county of Cabeceiras de Basto, less than one hour driving from Porto, Sestelo was once the house of a Portuguese nobleman recently restored to include all the amenities of modern life.

The house old stables were converted into 3 duplex apartments, each with a double or twin bed room, 2 bathrooms with shower, a kitchenette and a living room with a double sofa bed, air-conditioning and TV.

All apartments have use of the swimming pool and of the panoramic terrace, overlooking the vineyard, were you can relax with a glass of “Vinho Verde” after exploring the region. The property is surrounded by vineyards, a watermill, the manor-house chapel, olive trees, fresh water fountains and the “Levada”, and old irrigation channel that you can follow until it enters the mountain.

Come and experience one of the most enchanting regions of Portugal were time has stopped and tradition still dwells in the habits of people.

A beautiful and very special place to stay in the Minho Verde region. Maria and her family are so welcoming and friendly! The Casa de Sestelo is perfect and is carefully designed for a relaxing holiday stay with all facilities you could need. We were delighted by the personal meet and greet service to take us the last bit of the journey down the road to the house. Then on arrival, a beautiful welcome basket of chilled wine, cakes, fruit, bread and home made jam! Everything in the house is sparkling clean and gleaming. The house is in a lovely hidden valley location with wonderful views of the hills and vineyards - just the sound of birdsong and water gushing through the fountain and levada system. The pool and terraces were special and perfect for relaxation and swimming - such a treat. There are plenty of things to do in this area and many places to visit with local shopping nearby some 10 mins away. Oporto is just one hour and Guimares and Braga are closer. The village of Mondim do Basto is worth a visit and a drive through the wonderful Parque Natural do Alvao. This was a truly great stay - thank you Maria and family! Everywhere is maintained to a very high standard - well done!

We loved our stay here. The cottage was as described - furnished very tastefully. The estate grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We received a warm welcome, with lots of advice about places to visit, and an excellent welcome basket (with wine from the estate, cheese, fruit, bread and cakes).

Casa De Sestelo was absolutely amazing and Maria was a fantastic host! She met us in Arco de Baulhe and we followed her to Casa De Sestelo. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, even more so than the pictures! She gave us a brief tour and a wonderful welcome gift basket, full of homemade wine, jam, cheese, fruit, vegetables, breads, and sweets -- we really enjoyed and appreciated all of the treats. We stayed at the cottage on our first day and swam in the pool, walked around, and relaxed. The next day, we went to the national park and took a hike. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer -- 3 days was not enough. We highly recommend Casa de Sestelo to any family or couple that is looking to relax in a beautiful, serene environment.

This beautiful place is worth a visit. The view is unique and very beautiful. There is a great and authentic atmosphere in this old winery. The garden and pool area are fantastic and the house is nice and clean. When we arrived there was a big basket with bread, fruit, jam, milk and wine. This was amazing and a big surprise. Maria, the hostess is very helpful and forthcoming. We have had a great holiday and would very much like to come back. It was a great pleasure to meet Marias father. We can unconditionally recommend this place to everyone.

We absolutely loved Casa de Sestelo, the surroundings are beautiful and very peaceful and the accommodation was exactly as described, clean and very comfortable. There were some lovely extra touches like the welcome basket including a bottle of the vineyards own wine. Maria could not have been more helpful and kind. We'll certainly be back as soon as we can!

Casa Sestelo was the perfect place for our vacation. We stayed 18 days visiting this extremely interesting part of Portugal and also enjoying the peace, nature and historic charm of Casa Sestelo. The whole property is very well managed and maintained. Maria, her family and staff are all very courteous and they are always available to help. I recommend Casa Sestelo without hesitation.
