I had a very pleasant stay at this apartment, me and my family.
The location is fantastic.
The facilities are ok, don't expect too much and you can't be disappointed (everything works well, from the wifi to the washing machine!)
If you are a bit afraid of the cold, I would recommend not to go there during cold days, there is no central heating system...
HOWEVER, ms Dong and Narelle have been AMAZING hosts, always ready to help, and that is the nicest part of my stay!
Dong is a very friendly and helpful lady. Not preparing for the cold weather in Hanoi in December, i arrived with only a thin jumper. She lent me a Winter Jackett and a scarf. When leaving I forgot my shirt, she contacted me to ask my address in order to send it to me. I would come back to stay at one of her places, if I happen to visit Hanoi again
We loved our stay in hanoi. The apartment is huge and as described. It was luxury to have our own whole apartment after several months of tiny hotel rooms. It is in a great, quiet location and easy walking distance from most sights.
Ms Dong is awesome. She has unstoppable energy and is full of smiles and laughs. She communicated really well and everything went smoothly. She even cooked us lunch several times which was brilliant and so kind and unexpected.
Aside from the flat Ms Dong runs a travel agency and She arranged our trip to halong bay and other train tickets. The trip was great and good value
Definitely recommend staying here as a base for exploring hanoi or just speak to Ms Dong to arrange your travel and tours.
I rented this place for the start of my SouthEast-Asia 5 weeks holiday. Everything was like desribed and worked perfetly. Hostess, mrs Nguyen helped to find the place, showe me around, visited local supermarket with me.
Apartment is on superb location, all Hanois must see places are near, but this is still quiest place in old quorter, no much tourists here.Next time I visit Hanoi, this will be my number one choise for accomodation.
My boyfriend and I stayed in the apartment for a few nights and loved it. We enjoyed feeling like we actually lived in Hanoi--lounging on the couch and cooking our own meals...The location is perfect and Dong was such a help. Everything worked (A/C and hot water) and everything we needed (pots, plates, utensils, toilet paper, etc.) was provided. I would stay there again!
Pros: Amazing location, Very friendly and helpful host, Very spacious
Cons: Some construction noise nearby when we stayed, Mattress is firm by Western standards (normal for Asia, though)
This apartment is spacious, comfortable, and VERY centrally located – right on the border of the Old Quarter and French Quarter, just a block and half from Hoan Kiem lake and 2 blocks from the Cathedral – walking distance to just about all the tourist destinations. By Vietnam standards, this may not be the cheapest place you can find in Hanoi, but for the size and location it is not overpriced. It isn't a new building, but is very "Hanoian" in style (French colonial, I guess?) and has a nice character.
Dong (the owner) and her business partner Narelle live right above – they are super friendly and helpful about anything you could need. They will help you book tours if you need, but are in no way pushy about it – just truly there to help out. Hanoi can be an overwhelming place for Westerners, but when we first arrived Narelle took us on a introductory tour of the neighborhood, pointing out a few good cafes and restaurants, banks, and supermarkets, as well as helping me set up my SIM card. Also invited us out to a bia hoi with some of her friends. Couldn't ask for anything more. They consistently checked in on us to make sure everything was going smoothly, and helped plan our trip to SaPa.
We used the apartment as a base for work and it was great. Consistently solid WiFi; not the fastest I've seen, but enough for video chats on (website hidden) without any problems, and it worked 24/7 with no issues at all. There are 2 A/C units, one for the main room and one for the bedroom. The main worked flawlessly the whole month we were here; the one in the room had some issues, but Dong had someone come to fix it immediately. There's also a small TV, which we didn't use much, a fridge, a small kitchen which we only used for about 1 meal a day (so much good/cheap street food within walking distance!), and a nice-sized bathroom with a washing machine. As mentioned above, the bed is firm by Western standards but is not uncomfortable and is the norm throughout Southeast Asia.
When we stayed, there was construction going on next door during the day, which was a little annoying. But this is beyond anyone's control really, and they'll hopefully be done soon. Dong was nice enough to bring us earplugs and consistently apologized for the noise, even though it was not her fault at all!
Bottom line: if you're thinking of staying in Hanoi and want a bit more space than you'd have in a hotel room, this is a great apartment in a superb location.
I really enjoyed my stay in this apartment. The place is exactly as described and everything, including AC and wifi, worked without any problems. The location is fabulous and indeed better than most of the main hotels.
Dong & Narelle are excellent hosts and were incredibly helpful with advice and even a tour of the neighbourhood to help locate banks, shops and the best cafes on the first day.
This is a great apartment and is the best value for money you're going to find in Hanoi. Its convenient, clean and quiet, I will definitely be back.
Dong and Narelle couldn't have been better hosts. After my arrival in Hanoi, they helped me to familiarize with the local culture and assisted me with visa-related issues.
The apartment is spacious, clean and located in the centre of Hanoi - within a short walking distance to Hoan Kiem lake, local markets and bars.
I highly recommend renting Dong's and Narelle's apartment Trang Thi Street.
I stayed in Dong's apartment for 4 weeks. I was sick with the flu for most of the first two weeks; and if that had to happen, I could not have been in a better place. Dong lives in the apartment above this one with her roommate and business associate Narelle. They are two angels--they checked on me a couple of times every day to make sure I had everything I needed. They brought me food, took care of my laundry, and arranged for a massage therapist to treat me for a pinched nerve I developed. I felt like I was a member of the family. I was extremely grateful for their support--it's not fun being seriously sick at home, let alone in a strange city.
The location of the apartment is fantastic. You're right in the Old Quarter, and in about three minutes, you can be taking a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake. The Women's Museum and Hoa Lo Prison are within walking distance. The morning after I arrived, Narelle gave me a tour of the neighborhood and recommended some great little restaurants in the area.
The apartment itself is roomy and comfortable. The kitchen is equipped with more than I usually get in a self-service apartment. Cleaning service was provided every week. There's a washer in the bathroom, but I used the laundry service at Dong's travel agency because it was cheap and more convenient. I arrived late in the evening and was pleased to find breakfast food in the fridge--yogurt, eggs, milk, cheese, and bread--as well as instant coffee, tea, sugar, creamer, and some fresh fruit. There's a toaster and a microwave as well as an electric kettle. There are English television channels on the cable TV, which was wonderful when I was sick and couldn't do anything else. Dong was making plans to paint the apartment when I was there, so it will have a fresh look for the next renter.
Dong owns a travel agency (Dong's Travel) and Narelle works with her there. They make an extraordinary team, because Narelle is Australian and can communicate with English-speaking customers, and Dong handles all the arrangements with Vietnamese tour companies, transportation services, and hotels. I really appreciated this, because I don't have a good ear for Asian accents. The service they provide is excellent and efficient, and as mentioned earlier, you can also drop off your laundry there. The agency is located on a side street near St. Joseph Cathedral, an easy walk from the apartment. I would recommend it highly, even if you don't rent the apartment..
There aren't many self-service apartments in Hanoi, so I was lucky this one was available. I feel like I've made two new friends in the bargain. You couldn't ask for a better landlord or more responsive service than you will find at this apartment. It made a huge difference in making my first visit to Viet Nam a most memorable one.
Everything went smoothly and as advertised. Dong and her assistant were very helpful. They also booked our tour of Halong Bay and helped us buy train tickets.
