Balila guesthouse has 4 rooms in different locations.
All 4 rooms are lovely furnished, have hot water, fan and a private terrasse looking into a green garden.
In the back garden are 2 rooms (purple and orange) next to each other in a little house that is surrounded from a tropical garden. Both rooms have their own semi open bathrooms with hot showers.
The purple and the orange room share one terrasse.
We have in all rooms wifi but the purple room has a very bad signal. But you are welcome to use our kitchen for wifi.
This listing is for the purple room only!
Please look and book seperatly for our 3 other rooms:
'The orange room' is in the same bungalow like the purple room. This bungalow is in the very quiet back garden of our family house.
'Moon Room' is attached to the family's house and has a bath tub in the open bathroom.
'Hanuman Bungalow' is a little seperated bungalow, with a little kitchen and a daybed on its terrasse.
We serve healthy breakfast and try to be environment friendly as much as possible.
The next and biggest yoga center is only 7 min. walking distance away.
In our street are many international restaurants, galleries, mini markets, ATMs and art shops.
The famous 'ARMA Museum' is our direct neighbour.
Our location is very close to the center but we are still surrounded from a tropical jungle with lots of birds, butterflies and frogs.
After heavy rains the frogs are happy and can be a bit loud!
My husband is also a driver an tourguide and he can bring you around all bali.
With our knowledge about this island we can help you to find the best places!
The family consist of the parents(from Austria and Bali), a little girl, 1 dog and 2 cats.
Please come and have look!
We loved our stay at Balila from 2-11th Feb 2014. Birgit & Made were wonderful hosts - the purple room was perfect, and we loved the terrace, gardens & tranquil setting. Also great if you like gamelan music - there are regular nightly performances from ARMA museum next door. Birgit has put a lot of effort into designing the rooms with tasteful decor & seemless integration with natural surroundings. The bathroom was delightful - plus we always had plentiful hot water. Wayan the Balila angel was attentive to our needs - cleaning our room when we needed, along with providing fresh towels & sheets, and the delicious breakfasts were made with love & care. We have recommended Balila to many of our friends, and are looking forward to a return stay when we're next in Ubud.
Balila was an awesome homestay experience, real value for money!
Everyone at Balila was friendly and helpful which made the entire experience a cosy one. We found its location to be very convenient especially if you intend to explore Ubud area. Our homestay also came with a very heart & healthy breakfast which was a great start to the day.
I really enjoyed my stay at Balila. The garden is stunning and it was lovely and relaxing to lie in the hammock listening to the sounds of nature. The hosts, Birgit and her husband, Made, were friendly and welcoming, but also respected your privacy and desire to be alone. They left a very helpful brochure in the room recommending spas, restaurants, etc and other helpful information on the room and area. Made even made the effort to make me coffee a couple of afternoons and bought it to me in the hammock by the room, where we had a fascinating conversation. The woman who brought breakfast was very sweet and helpful. The room was good, I particularly liked the pretty bathroom,. I had a problem with the fan, but Made fixed it as soon as I mentioned it. There was a little building work going on next door, but it was very quiet and didn't bother me at all. I got the impression the men waited for times when guests were not around. Overall, I had a fantastic experience there. It is extremely good value for money and I would go and stay there again. A couple of tips, the Ganesha hotel 2 mins away were quite happy to let me use their pool and provide a towel for 25 thousand idr per day and the Mexican restaurant 5 mins away and spa (recommended by Birgit in her brochure) was fabulous!
We had initially booked the place as an occasional retreat from the traffic and traders of Ubud. Due to prior positive ratings and the photos in this ad we had a good feeling about it.
We then found ourselves astonished and quite disappointed that Birgit had rented out the place eventhough there was a full-time construction site in their garden right next to our room - which unfortunately was not mentioned anywhere in the ad!
But only staying in Ubud for 2,5 days prior to our direct departure from Bali we felt that looking for a new place wouldn't be worth the hassle but did end up feeling a bit trapped there nevertheless.
Whilst the place didn't provide much privacy for us therefore rather hammering, saw-sounds and lively neighbours it's quite well located. The center is reachable within a 10 minute footwalk.
WLAN is only availabe directly in front of the main family house resp. on one side of the porch in the backyard. If you prefer to check emails rather privately and with a stable connection you might want to head out to one of the cafés nearby.
The mosquito net could use a renewal since the rips, holes and gaps don't do much for protection anymore. Better bring your own net.
The accomodations are set up very close to one another and the room itself is a bit dark. It provides a fan and some storage possibilities.
We'd recommend this place for people who need only very little privacy and don't mind the hustle and bustle around their room.
i have to apologize for the construction going on. i was personally not there in the time warn stayed with us and could not control that the workers did continue their job. before i left, i gave the order not to do any work when guests are in their rooms but i guess they just continued.
the new mosquito net for this room was already ordered quite a while ago but due to the many balinese holidays it was not finished when warn arrived.
for the wifi it says in the room description that the purple room has no signal but guest can use our kitchen. people usually book a different room when they want the wifi signal.
i am very sorry that we could not provide warn and his girlfriend what they expected.
I had a lovely time at Balila. The rooms were great. Breakfast was really good. I got great advice. The rooms were cleaned every day. I think Balila is great value for money and I'll definitely be coming back next year.
Great hosts, great rooms, what more can you want? 5 stars!!!
Overall: We loved it!
Length of Stay: 7 nights
Room: Very nice and charming room with a lovely bathroom. It got cleaned every single day and there was a free water dispenser. Very relaxing view on a green garden from the terrace where u can have breakfast. The breakfast was yummi and tasty! Only (little) downside: The WiFi signal was too weak at our room.
Host: Birgit is an excellent host and comes highly recommended. She creates a very relaxed and charming atmosphere. She helped us once we asked for specific information; she was always up for a nice talk on current things happening in Ubud.
Location: South of Ubud (which is smaller than we expected); all walking distance.
A friendly place conveniently located near the centre of Ubud. Room and bathroom basic but clean.
Our stay in Balila was wonderful. We got there completely soaked in a really rainy day, and Birgit received us with a cup of tea and a nice chat. The bungalow was perfectly clean and ready for us. The next day we were leaving really early and her husband arranged everything for us, and he was even awake just in case we wanted the breakfast. We really recommend anyone to go there. Thanks!
Great price, yummy breakfast, great location. Comfy bed, fun and functional bathroom, nice hammock. Birgit and Made were very helpful, and this was a great place to start our Bali vacation.
Lovely clean simple accomodation in a good position out of the hustle and bustle but still handy to good food, spas, yoga, etc.
The owners are very helpful and will help organise transport, give lifts places, etc.
I moved here in a hurry after a bad experience somewhere else the night before and it was a relief to land at Balila.
Well priced for what you get in my opinion.
Nice room and lovely little deck.
Quiet and peaceful.
