Joan and Keith were great. This was a little more than we normally spend but it was a very good value. The place was clean, central, and very safe. I recommend it especially to older travelers wanting a break from the chaos that can happen in Peru. You have a lot of support with Keith and Joan. If you don't need as much support this may want to look at more budget options. Not a negative at all but one thing to know is that this is a guest house. You don't have the privacy to do anything you want (loud music, "romantic interludes", etc.) like you would in a hotel as the set up is like having roommates. Great for connections and finding friends working their way across Peru. Everyone was very friendly and the breakfast was great. They are really trying to provide a good service for travelers.
Joan and Keith were warm and very welcoming. Our private room and separate bathroom was clean and well-kept. Our stay with Joan and Keith was especially made so smooth because of their guidance of where to go and what to see in Peru. My friend and I were making some last minute plans and they booked all of our arrangements from tours, to travel arrangements to Machu Picchu, to an overnight bus to Puno. Clutch! Urubamba is a small little village, but I enjoyed the local flavor and calm destination as compared to Cusco, which is a lot more touristy. Our trip for sure would not have been the same if we hadn't stayed with Joan and Keith.

I'm British and married to Keith, we have enjoyed travelling for the last 25 years and decided to move from the UK to live in Urubamba Peru in 2012. We loved being surrounded by mountains and the pace of life is much slower. The locals are very friendly so we have made many friends here. Shopping in the local market is great. There is so much choice and all fresh, most of it grown locally so it hasn't travelled far from field to table. We had a hard choice between our 2 favourite countries in the world it was Thailand or Peru but we chose Peru because of the climate ...it doesn't get really cold in the winter and summers are around 25 degrees so not too hot either, just right for us British!
We like to give our guests information and are happy to show them around our town of Urubamba, there are hidden gems that the rushed traveller might miss and we wouldn't want that to happen!
