Cozy space right in a great neighborhood in Brooklyn. Just yards from the F line, a couple of blocks to great bars/coffees/restaurants and a few more blocks to the waterfront.
We had an enjoyable stay at Sam's place. The location is great and close to everything. The place is not big, but has everything you need. Sam always responded to us immediately and he even got fresh milk, juice and breakfast items in the refrigerator for us! Would love to go back.
Great location! Half a block from the F train in a neighborhood with all the Brooklyn charms plus conveniences like Trader Joe's and Blue Bottle Coffee a couple blocks away. The apartment is just as advertised - clean, well organized, with essentials like dishes (nothing fancy), cereal, coffee, and netflix. It is not large; we stayed there with two adults and a two year old and with all the toddler gear we filled it up... Radiators provide a lot of heat in cold months, which is great, but for kids unfamiliar with hot radiators it can be dangerous - our toddler burned her back.
Sam was a great host and arranged a pack n play for the toddler to sleep in. The location is cool too, in a two story carriage house type building in the backyard of a normal apartment building. It is nice to have a garden outside your window! And it is quiet - no street noise. It is a shame that there's no picnic table or anything in that garden for the summer time.
It was a pleasure to host you and your family! I am very sorry about your daughter hurting herself, as I was not aware. The possibility of a young child touching the radiator was accidentally overlooked. It would not have been an issue at all to contact me, as I would have immediately took care of the issue and covered the radiator. I was always easily reached, as we had great communication throughout your stay. Again I am sorry about the radiator.
As for a seating area in the yard, that is on my list for spring updates. I am glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. You are welcome anytime back!
The communication with the host was average. At times it was immediate while at other times it took numerous attempts.
The location was misrepresented. Yes, Cobble Hill is a wonderful, trendy neighborhood but this apartment, east of Smith St., is not in a very nice section of the neighborhood.
The apartment was clean; however, it was big enough for one person, not four.
Upon entering the apartment on our first day, we heard the sounding of the smoke detector alarm, indicating that the battery needed to be changed. I contacted the host immediately who apologized and said that his brother would change the batteries. This never happened so my husband dismantled on the first night. It was never corrected during our three night stay.
Overall, we were very disappointed in our accommodations and related communications.
Cheryl, I am sorry to hear that your 3 night stay wasn't to your liking. I have never had any issues from past guests. From the first day to the last day of your stay I was very attentive and accessible. On the day of check-in, I accommodated your request to check-in almost 4 hours earlier than normal check-in time, waited for you to arrive and carried your luggage to the apartment, purchased groceries for you to enjoy, and told you if you need anything to contact me. Every text from you was followed by a phone call or text from myself.
The apartment is not misrepresented, the pictures and description are accurate as you can see from other guest reviews. Since your family lives in the neighborhood, it should have been no surprise that this trendy, charming, diverse Brooklyn neighborhood does not look like the outer states. When you texted me to let me know about the low battery indicator minute chirp of the smoke detector, I called immediately and told you I will change the battery, you made it very clear that it is not an issue anymore since your husband took out the battery. I have two other detectors in that apartment and a fire sprinkler system so I felt that that apartment was still protected. What surprised me is that the day after check-out when going back to the apt, I saw the batteries from ALL of the detectors in my place removed. There was no need to do that since the batteries were in working condition making no noise. This put you and your husband AT RISK, as well as the other people living in the building.
On the day of check-out, you left without letting me know. I wanted you to be comfortable and not feel rushed so I assumed that you and your husband may have wanted to check-out later in the afternoon, which was quite alright with me. I contacted you later in the evening to let me know when you are leaving, and that's when I found out you had already left earlier in the day.
Despite my experience with you, I left you a good review since this was your first Airbnb booking. I didn't want that to compromise any future hosts declining your booking request. While I am aware that I can't make everyone happy, I do know that I was a good host and tried my best to make your stay enjoyable.
Great little apartment in a quiet spot. Great location - literally steps away from the subway station, making it easy and fast to get to Manhattan, or anywhere else in Brooklyn. And there are some amazing restaurants just around the corner from Sam's apartment. Sam was easy to get in touch with quick responses, very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again!
Sam was a great host, very warm, responsive and made me feel quite comfortable. The neighborhood is in my top 3 favorites in Brooklyn, so doesn't get any better there. I felt the apartment was much smaller than I thought, was a bit cramped and is effectively stripped down to the bare basics. The location is a non-traditional (a cottage house in between two apartment buildings), but can be viewed as a bonus, where it's off the beaten path and very quiet. This is a great place to crash if you want something cheap, in the center of great nightlife in brooklyn. If you are a prince/princess or homebody, this place is not for you.
Sam was a truly a great host. He not only waited for me at the apartment, but as he was going to the supermarket he offered to bring me some grocery to start the morning with.
The apartment is newly renovated with a new bathroom and a new well equipped kitchen which I very much appreciated.
The location is superb. Only a few steps to the Manhattan bound F train and in walking distance to all the other trains.
