Apt Beau Bois

Look forward to you coming-
I am always anxious- That everything be perfect and
About what people expect-

The apartment will be cleaned by Connie- after dozens of cleaners- she's the best!
It's spacious- not cluttered and has enough towels and sheets-

There's a washer that's easy to use- I think I left some detergent as well
Replace what you use
I'll have a cone and filter for making your coffee- or a coffee press
There's a toaster- blender and microwave
Again buses run but it's best to call and ask them to come-
Water and electricity sometimes go out-
Can't help that-
We recently put in a new toilet and repaired the frig-
All work-
Just remember the apartment is in upper beau bois on the hill- so going to the main road might be hard without a vehicle- but its a lovely walk up or down.

I alway leave the basics- dish soap, toilet paper and soap
Most things u need you'll have to purchase- everyone has different tastes and diets-
Again the local convinient store is open till 11pm
They take cash-us or credit cards.

Enjoy your visit!

We fell in love with Dominica. The apartment was spacious and has a beautiful view of the ocean. The kitchen was stocked well. Faye was very attentive and we had a wonderful dinner with her. Everyone we met and interacted with represented Dominica at its finest. We will be back and look forward to staying again.

It is a spacious apartment in a convenient and safe location. Most of the descriptions about the place is accurate. However, it would be nice if the host/manager could make sure the internet works before guests arrive (previous guests seemed to have the same problem), and have the essentials such as more then one roll of toilet paper, a coffee maker/press, ice tray and dish water liquid in the kitchen. It's a bit discouraging that I had to texting back and forth with Faye burning up my international service data limit to get what we needed for $89/night. Luckily we had a wonderful experience with another Airbnb property at Calibishi, we didn't let such nuisances to spoil our trip. It's still an OK place to stay, just make sure you are prepared properly.

Lovely to have Fan stay but they booked while I was in the states and as much as I tried I knew that I needed to be around The place was empty while I was gone and I should have left it so- I like helping and making sure guest have what they need! I do that well! My backup is laid back Caribbean style! I tried?

I stayed at this accomodation for one week with my husband and grandfather. My husband had already visited Dominica several times and although his visits were mainly to see family, he indeed enjoyed the island and spoke highly of its beauty. My husband's reports of the beauty of Dominica--the friendly nature, diverse identity and pride of the people and beautifully unique landscape--were precise! No other island is like Dominica. Upon arriving on the island, the host had kindly arranged for transport. However, both having a profession in the field of mental health and addictions, there was some good evidence that the driver, though kind and generous with his time, appeared intoxicated (expressed aggressive verbal behaviour towards airport security, seemed to be drinking spiked drink and we wondered whether he also accepted a drink from a neighbour--another reason we decided to walk down to a nearby hotel rather than accept a ride, when we realised we didn't have the correct keys for the accomodation). When we queried drinking to the driver and the host, this was denied. As for the accomodation, the pictures were true to how the place appeared and location convenient. We just required a short ten minutes drive/bus ride or a 25-30 minutes leisurely walk into Roseau. Relatively clean, though I did need to clean and tidy some areas, particularly the ensuite bathroom and bedroom closet, dining table before use. Neighbours very helpful and sympathetic. We acknowledge that the host tried to meet the minimum requirements in accordance with the details listed on the website. However, internet did not work despite following instructions given, water heater didn't work either (would have been healing to our muscles after long days of hiking and walking). And, unfortunately, as mentioned, we were locked out on the first night, for which despite our efforts of calling and explaining this to the host, speaking with neighbours, even climbing up the balcony in hope of gaining access through a window (as suggested by the hosts partner) the host wasn't able to present with the correct keys until the following morning. There were no measures put in place to account for this, the internet or water heating problems leaving is to seek overnight stay at a nearby hotel that was most accommodating. Grateful the host made the necessary effort to get us settled in so that we could get on with our holiday plans. In summary, our trip to Dominica was worth it and the island's beauty remains unmatched. However, the host seemed rather disorganised despite her efforts. Grateful for having an accomodation but the quality of it was compromised.

Response from Faye:
As to the internet and hot water- I certainly tried but after repeated call I could not get into the apartment- I sent a neighbor who was an electrician to fix the water heater and he was not able to get anyone home!!! To be fair I need to be thoughtful, specific and accurately explain what happened on Althea's first nights stay. I sent a driver to the airport because I don't drive these unlight, winding road at night and also needed to be at the apartment to greet your grandfather who was arriving two hours earlier. A lovely man who insisted on taking charge of the apartment and the keys. I explained how things worked and what did not work. One of which I only realized the day before was the top lock. I mentioned numerous times that it should not be locked, which at that point he insisted that all other keys be taken of the keychain immediately. I did that and also being a retired Social Worker for many years made sure he knew when his family was to arrive and again not to use or engage the top lock. He assured me he understood me and seemed quite alert and coherent. He insisted I leave and that he was fine. What happened from there was quite unfortunate . I returned home on the other side of the island which is an hour away. At 8 pm I received a call from the driver saying that the family had arrived and that their grandfather was not at the house. I called neighbors to see if anyone had seen him. What a frightening situation I became quite concerned and also realized that this man might have some cognitive issues I was unaware of. I rise early so I go to bed early but waited up calling back every fifteen minutes to see if he had arrived. By almost 10 he was back with his keys. Only one problem he admitted to locking the top lock that he remember he was not to lock and because all other keys were taken off the keychain no one could try the top lock to get in. By this time it was way past 11 and although I wanted to come and address the issue neither the road or the hour made it at all possible- I was dead to the world and upset at what had happened. The driver stayed on much later than he expected to make sure everything had worked out. I'm sorry about this unfortunate incident but I see No blame on my part and cannot take responsibility for this grandfathers error. I was there in the morning first thing to meet everyone and was told after being asked for a refund that it was not my fault and they understood it was their grandfathers fault.

This apartment has a fabulous view of the ocean - including seeing the sunset every evening over the ocean! It's a 10-minute-walk / 1-minute-drive down to the seafront road. The main living space (lounge+dining-area+kitchen) is open and really nicely spacey, with views (via the double-doors) straight onto the balcony and out into the ocean. We spent most mornings diving (excellent Dive Dominica is 1-minute-drive away) and most afternoons working in the apartment or out on the balcony. It suited us perfectly - a really nice space to work, relax and cook/eat in. It gets quite hot, but the fans help a lot with that - and, well - you have to expect heat in Dominica - that's half the point of going! The main bedroom also is really nice and looks out onto the ocean view, and is a nice space, with lots of windows, all with insect meshes on - so it was never hot at night. Faye was a fabulous host - always really fast to respond to our queries and requests, and stunningly helpful (and fun!). She clearly cares a lot about people having the best time possible in Dominica. Summary: We loved our time on Dominica - it's a beautiful island - very unspoilt - with pristine diving, tough but lovely hiking and a great place to spend time generally. The apartment was exactly what we wanted - particularly as we were spending 3 weeks there - and Faye was a wonderful host. We would recommend it all!

Faye was a fantastic host from the beginning of our trip right through until the end. Although she had waited for us outside the ferry port for almost 2 hours while we queued through the painstakingly slow passport and customs lines - she greeted us on the other side with a huge welcome and took us under her wing from the word go. After taking us out to lunch in a lovely restaurant in town, we headed back to the apartment which blew us away. It was spacious, clean, bright and in a perfect location. The kitchen area opens out onto a balcony with impeccable views of the ocean, which allows prime viewing for the beautiful sunsets on the horizon. The house was well equipped with plenty of towels and sheets, beds were huge and comfy. The neighbourhood felt really safe, up on the hillside, close enough to Roseau town centre. Quick downhill walk to the petrol station and taxis/buses pass by within minutes, really cheap 5/10minute ride. The apartment slept 4 of us very comfortably and the two bathrooms were a great luxury. It was a pleasure to stay at Beau Bois and meet Faye and Bentley, would definitely return given the opportunity!

Me- well I'm in my sixties-
Grandmother of five.
Came here as a Peace Corps volunteer and just got involved in too many things to leave. My work, my students and friends keep me here. My only problem was money so thats why I do airbnb- it pays the bills. The other side of it is I meet so many people. New friends from all over the world. Thanks!
