Marbella Old Town:
Marbella Old Town is a hidden gem of a place. It can be found just up from the main Ricardo Soriano Road through Marbella (at the eastern end of the town). Just five minute´s walk from the centre of town, the old town offers cobbled streets, authentic tapas bars and the famous Orange Square, which is home to some of the best art galleries, shops and restaurants in town. Orange Square, as its name would suggest is lined with orange trees and tropical plants, and provides the perfect place for visitors to sit, relax and watch the world go by with a coffee or a large G and T. This vibrant part of town buzzes with activity, and you can lose yourself in the maze of streets around Orange Square.
Paseo Maritimo de Marbella:
The Paseo Maritimo of Marbella is lined with a great choice of bars, restaurants and seafood cafés, but it still gives the feeling of space. The Paseo is pedestrianised and the only vehicles you will see using it are occasional police vehicles or security cars. Offering great views over the sea, the Paseo is popular with joggers, skateboarders and keep fit enthusiasts, and there is no better place to people-watch than in this lively but scenic part of town. If you want to treat yourself, book a table at Santiago´s on the eastern end of the Paseo, famous for its fresh lobster and seafood, or sample some authentic paella and Mediterranean fish at one of the many beach bars on the sand. Pasta da Bruno is also a good option if you fancy going ´Italian´ for the day.
Avenida del Mar, Marbella:
Art lovers will find an impressive collection of Salvador Dali sculptures down the Avenida del Mar, and this incredible outdoor exhibition, attracts visitors all year round. From the top of the Avenida del Mar, you can look down this beautiful street to the sea, and both sides of the pedestrianised walkway are flanked by fountains. Avenida del Mar is situated in the middle of town, and to reach it, pass through Alameda Park (next to the Marbella Café) and head down towards the sea. There are plenty of benches on either side of the street, where you can relax and enjoy the sculptures, or walk down to the promenade and watch the world go by.
La Alameda Park Marbella:
Just south of Marbella´s Old Town, on the other side of the road is the Alameda Park (next to the Marbella Café). If you are lucky enough to be here in Feria time (mid-June), the gardens come alive with live music, dancing and open air bars to celebrate the annual extravaganza. La Alameda Park is a popular place to take a break, for locals and tourists alike, and it boasts a magnificent central fountain, constructed from typical Andalucian tiles.
Kids things to do Marbella:
One of the most popular family parks in Marbella is Funny Beach, which offers cable skiing, go-karting, an amusement arcade, trampolines, video games, electric bikes, a pool and children´s rides. A restaurant also serves kiddie-friendly food, and it is situated right on the beach, just 200 meters from the apartment. The Marbella tourist train is a good way to get around the town, or take a ride on a horse and carriage, and discover the hidden parts of town. If you fancy driving slightly further afield, take a trip to Selwo Wildlife Park near Estepona (about 20 minutes from Marbella) and view over 2,000 species in a semi-natural environment, or take a trip to Tivoli Amusement Park in Benalmadena, with plenty of kids rides and live entertainment. Quad biking, paint-balling, the Bioparc Fuengirola zoo and jeep safaris are also popular options in and around Marbella.
Beach Activities Marbella:
If you prefer to hang loose and soak up the sun on one of Marbella´s many beaches, hire a sun-bed and parasol for around €5 per day, and enjoy lunch in a local beach bar. If you are feeling more active, there are plenty of water sports facilities to choose from on most Marbella beaches, including water-skiing, paragliding, Banana boat and donuts. If you want to get out of town for a day, drive to Golden Beach at Elviria (ten minutes east of Marbella centre) or Puerto Cabopino Beach (12 minutes east of Marbella), where you can even go starkers if the mood takes you!
The Marina Puerto Banús:
Of all the places to visit in and around Marbella, there is nowhere quite like Puerto Banus, where the rich and famous (and not so famous) like to play. Stroll around the Marina, stopping off at Salduba Pub or Sinatra´s Bar just inside the west entrance to the port, and enjoy some excellent people-watching. Also moored at the western end of the port are the big boats, and when I say big, I mean enormous, gigantic, massive vessels which are more akin to ships than boats. Some even have helicopter pads on the top. Whether you want to sit and soak up the atmosphere of Puerto Banús, enjoy a meal at one of the many fabulous portside restaurants, or simply stroll around the marina, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to see and do. This is also a great place to take the kids, and you can find plenty of kiddie-friendly restaurants, bars and cafés to keep them entertained. Sealife Puerto Banus is also worth a visit and is situated near the big boats at the western end of the port.
Shopping Marbella and Puerto Banús:
If you are a shopaholic in Marbella and Puerto Banus you are spoilt for choice. Take a trip around El Corté Inglés in Puerto Banus, the most famous department store in Spain, visit La Cañada shopping mall just 1km from Marbella town centre, or stroll around the designer shops and boutiques in Puerto Banus. The Marina Mall and the Cristamar Centre are also worth a visit if you are after clothes, leather goods or top notch jewellery. If you are looking for something cheap and cheerful, take a trip round Nueva Andalucia Market on a Saturday morning, where hundreds of stalls sell everything from tablecloths to motor-homes.
The Costa del Sol may be more famous for its beaches than its culture, but there are a number of art galleries, museums and theatres in the area, plus packed schedules of live dance, entertainment and music, particularly in the summer months. The Sammer Gallery in Puerto Banus houses one of Spain´s largest exhibitions of modern art, and Marbella´s Bonsai Museum is home to a wonderful exhibition of Bonsai trees.
If you are looking for things to see and do on holiday, you won´t be disappointed if you visit Marbella and Puerto Banús. Pick up some leaflets from the local tourist information centre when you arrive, and take your time to explore Marbella and Puerto Banus.
Very good, thank you
We had a really great stay in Marbella staying at Banana Beach! As a group of 4 girls looking to have a fun holiday in Marbella, staying in this apartment worked really well for us. We had enough space, 2 bathrooms and absolutely loved the beach and view. The apartment is on a really beautiful beach which has loungers/parasols and lots of bars/restaurants and is 2 seconds away. The beach is probably the highlight of staying here. We were a little disappointed to learn that the pool doesn’t open until mid June, so we just missed out on using it – so pool lovers make sure you book when it’s open.
The apartment is situated a little further down from the old town/big supermarket. The old town is realistically a 20 minute walk away, and the supermarket is about 15 minutes walk. For those of you who enjoy a stroll, this will be fine… but us 4 lazy Londoners did find this a tad tiresome in the heat! Puerto Banus is a short cab ride away for nightlife, but split between 4 people the cost on cab fare is really small.
The apartment it self is clean, a good size and has everything you need! The balcony has a beautiful few of the sea. Nieves made everything really easy and is really helpful! The fact her office is so close to the apartment means that if you have any questions you can pop down and ask no problem.
Definitely a cost-effective to stay in Marbella!!
Perfect apartment comfort and location-wise! Nieves was extremely helpful. For the balcony alone I strongly recommend staying here. My boyfriend and I loved it!
Very Nice Place inside, nice building, nice view, good location (just a few minutes to the downtown).
