Jacques communicated well with use prior to our arrival; his recommendation for us to buy a local SIM card on our arrival in Bali was great - as it enabled (website hidden) Maps, and also allowed us to pair kids' technology for home schooling ! Jacques met us on arrival Ubud, and gave is his own map together with some tips. Anita helped us load the phone up with more Gb. The owner of the villa attended to anything we asked for, and also took us out to his friend's restaurant for some delicious (and very good value !) food. We enjoyed our stay and Jacques and Anita were great hosts.
Great house, as advertised. Hosts went out of their way to meet our requests such as extra towels and fans. It was peaceful and beautiful in the rice paddies.
We stayed in this house for 5 days and each of them was an absolute pleasure. The house is really large, and really clean. Also, the situation is brilliant, in the middle of the rice fields, something like 30 minutes by walk to Ubud going through an amazing neighborhood with people smiling at you every 30 seconds. This alone would be worth 5 stars. Still, the highlight of our stay was definitely the people with Jacques and Anita who were bringing their large smiles every day at breakfast time, and were always recommending nice places and things to do, not even mentioning how yummy Anita's breakfast are. Agung too was really nice and even found some time on some special celebrations days to arrange some things for us, always with a large smile. All in all, if you want to experience Bali from a nice place, surrounded by nice people, amazing views and a quiet environment you just found yourself a great place to stay. Thanks again to Anita, Agung and Jacques, you made our stay absolutely perfect.
The property was a lot larger than anticipated, it was such a pleasant surprise and we adored everything about the house. There was a great restaurant right next to the house and only about a 25-30 minute walk to the main city or a quick 5 minute taxi ride. The pool was so lovely and the views of the rice paddy fields were breathtaking!
Not only was the house amazing, but Jack and Anita were more than helpful and accommodating and made our experience so unique and special. They made great suggestions from food to spa and made all arrangements for us. We even had Anita come over and cook us breakfast and dinner! It was SO delicious and SO cool to have authentic Indonesian food cooked right in our kitchen.
We highly recommend this place and these hosts and I REALLY hope to come back and stay at this property!!
Great to be in the middel of the ricefields, away from the busy traffic of Ubud. Good starting pont to discover surroundings. Our family didd this by scooter and personal driver. All very well arranged by Anita and Jack. The house is great and comfortable. Very friendly and helpful people.
Tourists Beware! We booked this property as tourist accommodation for 8 nights expecting a reasonably furnished and equipped property. Very soon after arrival this was revealed to be misguided. This is a sparsely furnished property for long-term lease, NOT a holiday rental. There was nothing more to the photographs, not even in the cupboards. It is unrealistic for tourists to provide their own towels, and basic needs for daily routine; such as cups, plates, cutlery, etc... It was unethical for them not to have revealed this prior to our arrival knowing that we were a young family of 4 on vacation. Furthermore, it was unprofessional for them to provide ill-prepared accommodation in the provision of short-term rental.
We were told by J&A that the owners had chosen to change to tourist rental to wreak higher financial returns; without firstly providing the facilities accordingly. AND, we were also told the property was now been offered at twice the rate we had paid so be happy with what we had. Whilst we are compassionate and understanding people, after four days of only having three towels, no top sheets on any of the beds, and a consistent stream of deflection of our requests for basic needs, we decided to depart early due to our frustration with the unresolved situation.
Disappointingly we discovered a complaint had been made about the lack of these inclusions/facilities in April 2014, but clearly nothing had been done about addressing their concerns. Be advised that the reviews that you read on J&A's page are about their own Villa (which we believe is very nice), but NOT this property which is owned by someone else. After our departure, we were sent a review (by J&A) of their other property as evidence that they were doing a much better job elsewhere. This reinforced our experience and was NOT relevant to this property.
We were extremely disappointed at the facilities in the kitchen, the lack of bedding and linen, and basic household amenities for tourist accommodation. The core facilities of the house were not provided on our arrival and only after providing a list of basic expectations/needs was the process of supplying haphazardly and selectively provided. The host told us the property was cleaned every 5 days, but this was clearly not frequent enough in the location and no cleaning equipment was supplied for our own use.
One of the key aspects of our abbreviated stay was that the property is not managed by a vested interest. J&A are allowed to act as the hosts, but they deflect to the owners inexperience in tourist rentals as the excuse for the inadequate provisions. J&A have their own rentals a short distance away and thankfully dropped by to check on the progress of rectifying our concerns, though ineffective. We left the property clean and in better position for renting to the next visitor, but be prepared for accommodation which is not up to parr with what is available for the same money in Ubud.
It is regrettable that we could not satisfy Nick despite our daily checkups and the genuine efforts of this sincere Indonesian family. Admittedly the kitchen amenities were insufficient upon arrival and we certainly accept responsibility for that as we continue to work with the family in appreciating the standard of hospitality expected by foreigners.
In fairness, Nick fails to remark that the very next day and despite the owner’s purchase of all new quality kitchenware, china, ample new towels, and new custom made linen, new bath mats etc etc.etc.. we still could not completely satisfy Nick’s daily growing “list” of grievances which included a new broom, cleaning products, duvet covers, artwork and as I later learned, even a vanity makeup desk for his wife, which the owner actually went out and bought along with 2 new flat screen televisions.
Nick’s opinion on the cleanliness is disingenuous and simply not true. Cleanliness is a priority for us and the home was thoroughly cleaned, spotless and is always well kept. His complaint about the price is also baffling as we maintain that a clean modern 2 story home so close to Ubud, with a panoramic view of the rice fields, 6 rooms, 3 bathrooms, with pool, AC and free Wifi is indeed good value at $60 per night.
Nick left in a lurch after 5 days without a forwarding address. Even though all reasonable requests were satisfied he then requested a refund in spite of the Airbnb cancellation policy. Clearly advertised as a house rental, it is now reasonable to think that Nick expected a full service hotel for a family of 4 on a backpacker’s budget.
Hosts should also be aware that Nick has a son who wets the bed. Now, any responsible parent out of respect for personal property would feel obliged to immediately sponge the urine out with a towel and water to minimize staining. Instead, and quite unbelievably, they left the urine absorbing into a new mattress for hours while Nick sat fiddling on his laptop and his wife fiddling in the kitchen. He only begrudgingly assisted when he saw me and 5’2 Anita in lifting the mattress to be washed and dried. As a parent, it is hard to understand such irresponsibility and disregard for private property damage caused by your own child. Nick also failed to appreciate that the homeowner did not charge for damages. He then tried to skip out on the cleaning fee which he himself proposed.
Nick then demonstrated a further disregard for private property and legal liabilities by not notifying the owners of his departure and the whereabouts of 2 motorbikes. He then displayed indignation that we followed up at the owners request as they had no other means. He failed to appreciate that motorbikes are a means of livelihood, theft of motorbikes is a common occurrence and the owners would have been justified in filing a police report.
While the boys were delightful, respectful, well mannered and seemed to be having a great time, I would not recommend hosting this family on account of Nick and his lists. It’s unfortunate if Nick actually considered the degree to which his public unconstructive remarks and thoughtless misrepresentations could adversely affect this family’s livelihood in spite of their genuine efforts make his family happy.
This is a lovely modern house, well maintained, has and continues to be rented with nothing but praise for the house and appreciation for our personal attention and the warm Indonesian hospitality.

We are a Canadian / Indonesian couple residing permanently in Ubud. We enjoy renting out our property “Anita’s Villa” and meeting new people.
One thing that struck Anita early on as she quickly engaged with local Indonesians, was the struggle local Indonesian property owners have with the competitive edge and the increasing number of foreign investors.
The main challenges we identified were;
- language barrier,
- computer and internet technology skills and
- appreciating foreign living and hospitality standards
Anita who is Indonesian, her fluency in English and extensive experience in the hospitality industry, and my technology and communications, local property owners have turned to us for help and transfer knowledge to their young adults in hopes of becoming self sufficient, more effective property managers, help families and their local community economically and supplement the cost of education.
In a very short time we have grown to over 20 properties in the desirable and scenic area of Bentuyung and Junjungan villages. Local properties owners have already benefited from our assistance and we look forward to growing this association as the word and gossip spreads throughout the community.
