Update: Prices are now discounted for January and February 2014 from just £70 per night, please check the calendar for details!
This is my self-contained, one-bedroom, second-floor flat located in Whitechapel, in East London. It's a bright and airy flat, in a private walled garden setting, with loads of local attractions and excellent transport links to the rest of London. I've just redecorated throughout, with new kitchen, carpet and appliances.
It's pretty compact at about 400 square feet, but the 1-bed layout means it will easily accommodate a party of 2 or 3, with a double bed in the bedroom and a single sofa-bed in the lounge. There's plenty of storage and hanging space in the bedroom. Central heating throughout, and clean towels and bed linen are provided.
The bathroom contains a W.C, a tub with electric shower, and a wash basin. The galley-style kitchen's fully equipped, with a new gas hob, fan oven, microwave, coffee machine and all the kit. Ironing board and iron provided. There's a washing machine for your laundry needs.
In the living room, there's a 32" flat-screen TV with a Bluray player. It's also internet connected and you'll have access to my Netflix account for streaming. This setup can also play music and video from a USB, so you can bring your movie collection. We have broadband with wifi and ethernet connections (if you're old school).
There are some great pubs and restaurants right on the doorstep, as well as the Genesis cinema. We have a small Tesco, a 24-hour off licence and a huge Sainsburys supermarket all within 5 minutes walk. Transport-wise, we're 5-7 minutes walk from Whitechapel, Stepney Green (District, Hammersmith & City lines), and Bethnal Green (Central line) tube stations. Less than one minute's walk from a bus stop with 24-hour services to the City, West End and beyond.
The flat is also within an easy walk of the Queen Mary University campus and teaching hospitals, as well as the London Metropolitan University campus at Aldgate.
Brick Lane and Shoreditch are within easy walking distance. There's a whole load of stuff going on in this area in the arts, the media and the tech scene, and I'd be delighted to share some personal recommendations - I lived here full-time for over 10 years myself, and probably still would if I didn't have kids. As it is, I'm here for a few nights a week, and looking to offset some of the costs by sharing my space via Airbnb. Guests can also borrow my guest card for the Tate galleries, allowing free entry for 2 into exhibitions and the exclusive members' rooms. In the opposite direction, we're quite close to the 2012 Olympic site.
Standard check in time is after 2.00 PM, and check out time by 11.00 AM. However, we can be flexible depending on whether there are guests staying either side, so if you want to arrive earlier or leave later, just ask! I do not charge additional cleaning fees or damage deposit above the regular price.
PJ's apartment is a little London gem. It's in a great location, very well connected to central / West London via the Central Line (Bethnal Green) and District Line (Whitechapel), plus much of the East London highlights (Hackney / Shoreditch / Bethnal Green etc.) are easily accessible on foot. The heating ensured we were cosy and the flat was very clean. Only small drawback is the shower (very low pressure, tricky if you have hair like mine!!) Thank you PJ for your swift reply to all emails and your flexibility on check in / out times. I would definitely recommend.
I stayed here with my wife for a few days in February.
Peter was very helpful and prompt with all communication.
The flat is comfortable, warm and well equipped. It´s in a very convenient location for anyone interested in exploring east London. Broadway market, Columbia Road, Brick Lane and Shoreditch, … are only a short walk away. There was a nice atmosphere walking around the area.
We´re happy to recommend the apartment to other guests and I´m sure that we will be returning soon.
Lovely place in a very handy location from where it's easy to get around London; there are 3 neighbouring tube stations (whitechapel, stepney green and bethnal green), bus stops near by etc... I was even able to walk to the city from the apartment.
The apartment was exactly like on the photos.
The only downside was the water pressure in the bathroom which was really low and it took ages to shower.
I didn't meet Peter but he was available when needed. The microwave wasn't clean when i got in but Peter fixed this the same day.
The heating was good and so was the wifi, although i lost the connection few times (but it wasn't for long).
The are few supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury, Cooperative store) very close by too.
I stayed 5 days in PJ's apartment and will definitely recommend and stay again.
Lovely place and well situated. Everything was clear on how to get there and how everything worked in the apartment. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
Lovely apartment. I have been to the area before and I like the Pubs. Tesco around the corner and tube station close-by. Apartment was a typical East London place: Not posh but relaxing. Clean bed, comfy couch, cute kitchen, friendly neighbours. The bathroom shower had little water pressure, but hey - that's the way the English plumbing works.
What I found most reassuring: Peter replied straight back when I had a question!
I had a great stay.
Nice and cozy place just few steps from Bethnal Green / Whitechapel tube stations. There are also 2 Barclay's bike to hire stations literally few meters from the place. Heating was nice even in January chilly weather - I've spent one week in this nice place. Wi-fi was good too!
Flat was lovely. Great location. Clean and had everything we needed. Host was really helpful too. Would definitely go back again.
Very convenient location and well equipped kitchen is a plus. Good location, comfortable. Communication with Peter was easy and fast, he answered all the questions and provided extra information.
The place was a bit dusty, but other than that it was a good place to stay.
Sorry if it was a bit dusty - I had a different cleaner in as it was the Christmas holiday, so wasn't able to check the standard myself. I always stress that if guests have any issues like that, they should get in touch straight away, so I get teh chance to put things right.
Exactly what we needed/wanted. Host is helpful, informative and welcoming.
Thanks for a great stay
Peter went above and beyond to help me out! I had to check in and out and odd times, and he was totally cool about it.
The place is perfect and a great base for exploring artsy east london. It is small, but perfectly formed. I would highly recommend staying here, and I most probably will do again!
Great stay. 5 stars.
