Live Well Farm is a private coastal estate on the Maine peninsula of Harpswell. The farmhouse has been restored to include modern amenities, and the grounds and barn are perfect venues for families, reunions, or special events.
Live Well Farm is a fabulous 5-acre property that's convenient to all the towns along mid-coast Maine. The beach is through the back of the property which faces Bailey Island and the famous Cribstone Bridge. It can be accessed by car or on foot up the road and around the bend. We are 15 minutes from Bowdoin College, 25 minutes from the Freeport Outlet Village, and 45 minutes from Portland.
Guests may have use of the house, barn, and grounds.
Interaction with Guests
I will meet each guest upon arrival and provide a list of local activities and sights as well as familiarize the guests with the house.
Because this is a farm, guests can expect that there will be ongoing maintenance of the grounds and vegetable garden in the spring/summer/fall season. Every attempt is made to keep the renters informed as to when mowing will take place.
Harpswell has the most coastline of any town in the US and is a well-kept secret. Live Well Farm is at the end of a peninsula surrounded by water and small islands. There are a number of good restaurants in the immediate area and several lobster pounds for live or freshly steamed lobster to take away.
No public transit.
Other Things to Note
Things to do: boating, kayaking, fishing, sunbathing, shopping, eating, antiquing, biking, exploring.....relaxing.
No pets or smoking.
Patty was very friendly and responsive. She made coordinating our stay easy. We picked apples and made fresh apple juice and applesauce. We comfortably slept and fed several families and couples. Local friends that came over for dinner took note so that they could recommend the place to their friends that come to visit.
The property itself has some miles on it (established 1840 I believe it said), but it has been restored in a lovely manner with modern bathrooms and a fantastic kitchen.
My 5 girlfriends and I had an amazing long (email hidden) Well. The place was exactly as advertised -- very comfortable, beautiful grounds, and a cozy barn that made for a perfect after-hours dance party venue!
We were also so impressed with the town of Harpswell. Every area we discovered was more picturesque and serene than the last. It was a tough place to leave! Thank you Patty!
Property is truly lovely. Patty was a great host. The house itself is chock full of lovely details with a nice balance of antique and modern day amenities. The kitchen may be the nicest kitchen of any rental we've ever encountered. The grounds are impeccably well kept. We had a great time!
We LOVED LOVED LOVED LOOOOOOVED the farm!!!!
My friends and i stayed at the Live Well Farm for 3 days and we absolutely fell in love w the farm. We arrived past midnite, exhausted after a very long drive, but we still spent at least an hour exploring and admiring the farm.... and wow! what a place. Its actually more gorgeous than the pictures show: kitchen (where we spent most of our time) is super spacious/gorgeous, equipped w all high end tools; bedrooms are super cute w very comfortable beds; decor is very "anthropologie"-ish w lots of character; barn is super cool; family room w the winter garden and the porch are full of light and charming; bathroom towels were super clean and good quality; dining area is super spacious and bright; etc etc etc. We absolutely enjoyed every minute in the house.
Patty, the host, was super nice, super easy to contact and very helpful. She gave us recommendations on activities to do/restaurants to go around the area (check out the farmers market, erica's and bailey island) and she let us meet Jack, her english black labrador. i m not really a dog person and not a fan of dog hair around the house, but we all wanted him to stay w us in the house for the whole weekend.
Location of the farm is great if you are looking for a relaxing, laid back weekend. There are great restaurants and food markets close by. Portland is around 45-50 minutes away, Kennebunk is around 60-80 minutes away, but the farm is so gorgeous you would want to stay in and enjoy it.
We would absolutely come back! Best airbnb house.
We 3 the Live Well Farm.
Patty was flexible in our arrival to drop off groceries early, since we were traveling with a large group. She also had a few great suggestions for local activities. Our favorite things about the property were the beautiful barn, serene yard for morning yoga and meditation, long community table for meals, comfortable living room to gather at night, and a beautiful kitchen where Patty taught our group how to make fresh pasta and sauce. It was warm, clean and welcoming.
The house and grounds are spacious and very beautiful, especially the old barn where had a few dinner parties. Our host was there to meet us when we arrived and showed us the property as well as instructed us on how to use various items/appliances. There was a fair amount of instruction on what we could not use as well, which was understandable since our group included 6 children under the age of 6. Care has been taken to thoughtfully remodel this farmhouse to include modern comforts but still keep the original character of the house intact. It was a great place for our multi-family vacation with lots to do nearby and plenty of space for everyone to hang out at the house.
Patty's beautiful farm in Harpswell was everything we wanted plus more. I was absolutely blown away by the attention to detail that went into the recent renovation/restoration of the farm, from the super creative bathroom hooks to brand new Viking kitchen that made cooking a pleasure. The surrounding area is pristine, and the grounds are extremely well maintained and gorgeous. All in all my group was blown away by how lovely our experience turned out to be, and we would all highly recommend this destination to others.
