Ma fille et moi avons été reçues par les parents de Ritsuko mais en août Ritsuko et ses enfants étaient là et ont pu nous donner beaucoup d'informations précieuses.Quand nous avons demandé des serviettes, tout de suite nous en avons eu.
It was really nice and big tatami room!!!
Bit far from tube station.
But there is nice restraint around this place.
I recommend if you stay long days.
Cuz good price and friendly owner!!!
I stayed here with my mom for 10 days. The room was lovely. The walls are thin, but the heating was good (at least for a cold spring, I don`t know about winter) and the other guests were quiet, so we had no problem.
The futon was comfortable. The shower on the second floor is for women only, but don`t worry, the outdoor shower is also good (I`ve tried it once) :)
It is unfortunate to write this, but our experience was stressful and complicated. When we arrived we could not get our hosts on the phone and only managed to get in (thanks to other guests) after ringing the doorbell for 1 hour. The Konaka's is a hostel, this is not clearly described in the placement and it comes across like it is a home stay with Ritsuko's parents. We were sharing with 8 other people, which turned out to be great because they were all lovely people. So we enjoyed that a lot. Communication with Ritsuko was very slow (sometimes taking 2 days) and it was very abrupt. She is also in France, not Kyoto. It would be really great if the placement on AirBnB could be changed to clearly state the following so that I is not a disappointing shock: that it is a hostel, that you must bring your own towels, that there is a 10pm room curfew, that is is cold and that sound travels and you must be quiet in the house. All of that said, the Konaka's (Ritsuko's parents) were very kind and friendly despite major communication issues, the beds were comfortable and the location is near many good eateries and sento's.
We like the location, a quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to great temples, like Daitokuji, Kinkakuji, Ryoanji.
We enjoyed walking through small streets to the bus stop every morning. We made a stop at the bakery next door on the way to the bus stop every morning. In Spring, the bakery made delicious sakura bread with red bean filling, which I love.
The host are very friendly, and they don't bother you, but you can always talk to them if you need to. They will suggest places to see if you ask them.
The room is spacious, and with my back problem, tatami room is great! I feel at home.
Keep in mind, they do not provide amenities, like towels, hair dryer, iron you need them you should bring them with you, which can take lots of space in your luggage if you travel light.
The shower is located outside the main house, and you might want to bring your own soap/shampoo.
We were collected from the train station by Ritsuko's mother... And straight away upon arriving in their house they made us feel so welcome. Absolutely delightful couple. So kind and gracious.
The room us very large, with two heaters for the winter months and an AC unit for summer.
I fell and broke my back last year, and had not realized how difficult getting up and down from the tatami and futon bedding would be, yet despite this, we are retuning to stay again, as we liked the people and the situation so very much.
At night we prepare simple food for ourselves in the kitchen.. And my husband has his coffe and breakfast there each morning. Some of the other guests do this also... And it cuts down a great deal on the cost of food during our trip.
When I booked the room, I had no idea this would be possible, but am so grateful for it.
Also there is a washing machine onsite, that one may use for 300 yen. The day it rained unexpectedly, Ritsuko's mother kindly brought our laundry in for us.
If you are visiting kyoto for sometime, you could not find kinder or more generous hosts. We will return to them whenever we are visiting Kyoto in future. Thank you so much.
