My friend and I COULDN'T have had a more eye opening and beautiful experience if we tried at Casa Tordesilla. We went right at the start of Costa Rica's winter and it was still warm enough to swim in the river, go horseback riding, and go hiking in the cloud forest. It's hard to describe how stunning his home and the land is. Chema and Marga are not only wonderful hosts, but they are so knowledgeable. What's better, is they are both so devoted to the Earth, that they have almost no carbon footprint- so inspiring. I am DEFINITELY coming back.
Since most has already been mentioned by others, I'll just say that I had a super lovely time with Chema and Marga. I was looking for a quiet refuge to do some writing, a bit of yoga and lots of reflection. Perfect for that. They truly walk the walk and are inspired hosts. I could pass hours just sitting on their front stairs overlooking the cloud/fog as it rolled in and out each day. The temperature was steady and sweet, the place is enchanted, candle lit and mystic. I was also blessed to be around during a lunar eclipse, when we were visited by a bonafide local shaman and a lovely young lady who was skilled in the arts of leading a tobacco ceremony. There was wholesome delicious and plentiful food, there was a night of song, spirited horses and volumes of information about local life, flaura, fauna and geo-eco-politics. Chema resists the idea that he is a teacher, but he's building a school to teach local kids sustainability and crafts. He'll do it for sure. I would hesitate to spend less than two days here.
Fantástico!!! Staying with Cherma and Marga is the highlight of my trip to Costa Rica. They are both inspiring pioneers who are truly committed to sustainable living. The house is WOW! It's an uplifting scared space where one can relax, enjoy conversations, even work (which I did for a few days). The views are magnificent. Cherma is a storyteller and Marga is a wisdom woman who does magic with food. The meals were always fresh, healthy and delicious. I loved everything about being there. This is the 'GO TO' place in Costa Rica!!!
Amazing, very original! We spent only one night at Chema and Marga's place but it was really a good experience. We saw a splendid sunset! The place is like an eden, well situated between Uvita and Talamanca. The view is incredible! We stayed the morning after to have the time to discover the farm and to talk with Chema about his projects, about sustainability, about Costa Rica... It was so rich! Chema is really passionated and it's a pleasure. We had a really pleasant break at Casa Tordesillas and we'll keep in touch!!
Chema and Marga were awesome hosts. We were amazed by the beauty of the property and surrounding landscape. Their lifestyle is so inspiring! We will definitely be back to visit some day. Highly recommended!
A unique, beautiful home in the clouds! Chema and Marga were delightful hosts - they cooked delicious meals and recommended great hikes and sights to see. It was a perfect place to relax and take in the beauty of Costa Rica.
Staying with Chema & Marga was by far the most authentic & enjoyable part of our Costa Rican adventure. Their property is beautiful and Marga's cooking was always fresh and delicious. We had a great time chatting with Chema about anything from farming, to architecture, to education, to astronomy. We could not have asked for a more perfect stay off the grid, and hope to go back soon!
Casa Tordesillas is a great place to stay! If you're looking for some time away in the beautiful country side of Costa Rica, this is it. You can look forward to lovely meals with local, fresh ingredients, great conversation, or quiet time away walking the hills. Their sustainable life style is quite inspiring.
Staying with Chema and Marga was, by far, the highlight of my trip to Costa Rica! The home and setting in the mountains is breathtakingly beautiful, (best explored on their well trained horses) with glorious vistas over verdant hillsides lush with plant and animal life. The company of this unique and thoughtful couple was inspirational. Conversations over the lovely Marga's delicious home cooked meals were always interesting and thought provoking. Chema is a wealth of knowledge and practical experience and they are working with the community to build a school training young people in both traditional and new sustainability practices.
If you are open to taking this rare opportunity to step out of a consumeristic comfort zone to experience, firsthand, the joy of living a simple, elegant, deeply satisfying and truly visionary way of life I highly recommend it!
