This lovely and private solar ( with grid back up) rural cottage is surrounded by mixed forest in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Gardens and a creek at the edge of the property provide a peaceful ambiance to enjoy from the deck or porch. Truly a wonderful retreat space for a group, couple or single to relax and rejuvenate. A short drive to a variety of popular destinations including Chimney Rock, Black Mountain and Old Fort as well as proximity to Asheville for a day on the town.

The space
Although this house can conservatively be powered entirely by the sun there is full grid back up to make sure that you are not left without electricity. There are a few steps here and there to enter the house and into the living room and a ships ladder to get to the lofted bedroom. There is a fully equipped kitchen with cooktop and range and toaster, coffee maker, blender fridge/freezer (not always entirely empty...). Spring water is good for drinking and good for bathing!. Decent internet but cell phone coverage is marginal. Calling over wifi is what i do...

Guest access
You will have access to all of the house except for one small room and a storage loft. Please be respectful of these off limits areas. Large yard and garden with fruit ripening at different times of year. There is a pond and small creek at the base of the yard for splashing and exploring. Although the property is surrounded by forest, it is all private property. Please respect distance from other houses, posted signs and please do not harvest from the forest and leave only footprints.

Other things to note
If you are wanting provisions, the Smith's country store is a few miles up the road (directions are on the internet) but the selection although eclectic is very limited with regards to food. Please do support them as they are neighbors! There are snacks, ice cream and beer and other sundries, but If you are looking for groceries, you will want to visit a larger store in such as Ingles in Black Mountain, or Frisbees in Old Fort. There are a variety of health food stores in Black Mountain and Asheville as well. Gasoline is also available in the two closest towns which are about 10+ miles away. The easiest thing when arriving is to bring a few groceries with you so that you don't have to go out again immediately!

Our home is on a low traffic gravel road. There are other small hand built homes in the area and neighbors enjoying a quiet lifestyle. We are also about 10 minutes about 3 miles driving distance from Earthaven Eco-Village where i am a member. Earthaven offers tours on alternate Saturdays and private tours can be arranged. Please message me if you are interested in checking out Earthaven.
