It was my first trip to Africa and staying with Denise has absolutely made it both comfortable and enjoyable. The room was spacious, very clean and consist of my own personal kitchenette and lounge area. I have enjoyed the sumptuous spread Denise prepares every morning for breakfast and her warm hospitality. She provided me with great local insights and information about places to go and things to do. 5-star service definitely. Will be back at her place if I ever go back to Joburg. All the best, Denise!
Denise was a wonderful host! We felt very welcome, and the "private room" is more of an entire suite-- there is a private bathroom, living room and kitchenette space attached.
Much of South Africa is dealing with “load shedding” or rolling blackouts, so we were nervous walking to/from dinner at night in the dark, but it was fine (Denise had also offered to drive us). I would probably recommend having a car for most travelers coming through, but since we were only there for one night not having a car worked out fine.
Thank you Denise for a great visit!
The host canceled this reservation the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I was very disappointed and concerned that I had to cancel this reservation but with our loadshedding problems an email from another service provider which confirmed a booking for another guest arriving on the day, unfortunately did not arrive in time for me to synchronise my bookings. I did make contact with Thekla as she was in South Africa and did make other arrangements for accommodation for her in the event she could not find something else in Melville. All worked out as she did find accommodation without my assistance.
We had a great time in Joburg thanks to Denise. She met us at the airport and took us to our tourist destinations. We felt very safe at her home and in her neighbourhood. You will not get a better breakfast than at her home. We highly recommend staying here.
Denise and her cozy room for us was perfect for our stay in Joburg. We felt so welcomed and safe. The space was clean and very comfortable and we couldn't get over how quiet it was! The neighborhood is great as well, definitely worth a visit!
Denise was very hospitable from the moment she picked me up from the airport. The accommodation was safe, clean, and comfortable. The Melville neighborhood is fun with a number of bars and restaurants within walking distance. I would highly recommend staying at Giraffe to anyone visiting Joburg.
Genuinely the nicest place I've stayed at through Air B n B, not just because of the room, but Denise herself - friendly, funny, helpful and so informative about the city.
The fact she has so many long-term guests says it all (there were three other people staying there while I was, all fitting into that category and all really nice).
The area's great too, peaceful but a short walk from 7th Street, which is full of vibrant restaurants and bars, a Spar supermarket also being 10 minutes walk if you're cooking yourself.
I'm heading back to Johannesburg on Tuesday, Denise is fully booked and I'm very annoyed about it!
