This is a fully renovated stone house from (website hidden)-done in our own style everything from scratch. We have organic veggies delivered at home and this can be arranged for all our guests. We will guide you to the best places for wine, music and food!
Hello, we re renting our house in the old town of Heraklion Crete.
It is in a quiet pedestrian street, complete renovation finished january 2010, in the heart of the city, 2 minutes from the sea front and the Natural History Museum, 5 minutes from any place in the center, 5 minutes from the Historic Museum of Crete. An ideal spot with friends or family for discovering real Crete. Roof terasse, fully equiped kitchen, 90 sq metres. Free parking possible in the area.
And yes, you will have the house to yourselves!
AND you can use our bicycles while here - Heraklio is really a perfect city for this - the distances are just great for this and there is a bicycle route across the sea that is most pleasant and will take you to the beach.
Walkable distance to the old harbor and to the ferry port.
You can shop for food and just about anything in our area, from tasty cheese and olives to great tavernas.
We provide with guidebooks, maps and brochures for renting cars etc for your excursions.
We are also connected with the organic / cooperative network in Heraklio, so many great addresses and tips on where to taste something different or have a drink while contributing to the development of sustainable farming and agriculture on the island.
The house has two floors, the ground floor is a loft-like open space with a big living room, a workstation, a kitchen and a small bathroom, a small patio brings light and air, the walls are apparent stone and keep the temperature low even on very hot days in the summer.
The kitchen has about everything you may need and of course we will take care of leaving some Raki and local wine for you to taste. The upper floor holds two luminous bedrooms and a library that has recently been converted to a bunk bed room, a balcony and a terrace. There are two double beds and 2 bunk beds. The secondary bedroom has no door, the bed is on a wooden loft.
And most importantly there is the roof terrace, the jewel of our house where you can have lunch or stay for hours at dinner time and enjoy the cool Cretan breeze.
We are both artists and renovated this house (when we left Paris to live on Crete) with a lot of love and used the necessary time and natural local materials to make it unique. I think you will enjoy the simplicity and charm of its style. We leave everything as it is, you will be coming to a house of character!
Possibility of providing baby equipment for families, bedding, toys, car seat etc
We have installed bunk beds in our children's room - adult size so we ve increased the capacity by 2 beds - for bigger groups of friends!
Rent negociable for long term stays.
Most importantly this is a place you could call home.
Hoping to see you soon
E & V.
we will leave lots of food for you to have a nice breakfast (or many of them), upon request you may use our bicycles if available at that time. We will direct you to the kind of beach you re looking for, or archeological site.
Interaction with Guests
When we have guests we try to be helpful when needed, to show people around Heraklio but also let them have their calm island vacation. We will be close upon a phone call or anything you may need but we dont live in the house with you. It is all yours!
its calm with many old ladies that adooooore saying hi to everyone!
Everything is close to our house, you can walk to anywhere or catch a bus to the countryside
hello there, we promise there are no special rules,
treat our house with respect, we love it and hope that you ll love it too
please be kind to our plants, there is an automatic watering system so there is nothing to do
Use anything you wish to cook and eat, that s why it is all there
Be careful with water !!! Crete has a real water supply problem and we all need to be responsible and not waste water, most people here receive water only a few hours every day and we all have a system for stocking water on our roofs. In our house it is all taken care of course, but we all still need to care.
There are many books to read and in many languages, guidebooks about Crete and of course we are here to help you with all the info you may need.
Oh yes, no smoking in the house, please !
We stayed at the "artists' house" in the old town of Heraklion during the xmas holidays. The city of Heraklion, the people and the way of life pleasantly surprised us. The dynamic of the city, the restaurants, the quality of the typical Tavernas and the generosity of the Cretan people, have touched out hearts, but the best part of out trip was Eirini, Vincent and their family. Despite the bad weather we encountered and the fact that we were off season, we felt so welcomed and "cared for" by them that we had a very hard time leaving! Eirini and Vincent, you have made our trip a loving experience, because this is how we felt "loved". We feel that we left great friends in Crete and we will be back to visit again :-) THANK YOU!!!
We highly suggest this place for a nice trip to Crete! We had a lovely stay in Heraklion it is such a good place to be! Eirini and Vincent are really great hosts - so welcoming and helpful, it felt like visiting old friends. Their home is wonderful and comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped ( we still have to cook some indian food!) and we loved to sit on the roof deck. For our son, there were a lot of toys he could play with and borrowing a sccoter was great , too. Most of the time we went by foot, its only ten minutes up to the city center. We are looking forward to come back next year.
We were made most welcome in a genuinely warm, open and responsive way and felt at home yet stimulated by the very unusual house and neighbourhood in our experience. It was an idiosyncratic house with a marvellous roof top terrace reached by ref spiral staircase and a basket which cd be hauled up by rope for suppers if we wished. The house was as advertised and with a well equipped kitchen.
Eirini's husband was on hand to meet and greet us. He showed us all the features of this unique house plus gave us a few tips on some restaurants.
The house catered for all our needs. It had some distinct features like the roof top table and chairs.
Would definitely stay at Eirini's house again if I was to visit Iraklio again.
Vicent and Eirini were very welcoming. They provided great places to eat and visit. Extremely accommodating. Their house is comfortable, clean and trendy. Its located not so far away from the main street and an easy walk to the bus stop. We didn't have a car - no big deal. The local bus transportation system is easy to use if we wanted to visit another city. The taxi got us from the port to their house and back to the port when it was time to leave - about 10 euros. We stayed in mainland, Santorini and Crete, and by far, our stay in Crete was the best. Cheers.
This apartment was in a great location, walking distance from Khandakos street which leads to the lively and attractive main square in Heraklion's old town and the delightful El Greco Park. I strongly recommend this area for shopping and lovely iced coffees and delicious food.
The apartment looked just like its photos, and my kids were happy to borrow scooters, while my husband and I used a few of the available oils and spices -- this is a very homely apartment and the kitchen is nice to cook in. We hadn't realized there was a rooftop area, which was great to sit in when the city and apartment got too hot to do very much!
Communication could have been a bit better -- on arrival, we didn't know where to go, so I'd recommend that future guests head for the Natural History Museum and ring from there, as it's close by. Eirini's father Vagelis was extremely welcoming when we did manage to get hold of him. Overall, we had a lovely stay in Heraklion.
My host greeted me at the airport, gave me a whirlwind tour of the city as we found our way to the house, and graciously described the benefits of his home as he explained all the quirks and necessities of the arrangements. It was wonderful!
Hi I am a video artist and sculptor living between Heraklio and Paris. I travel a lot with my husband and our two sons. We enjoy discovering new tastes, places, walking in the mountains, watching the Charlie Parker festival in Harlem, play with the boys at the Tompkins Square park, eat strawberries from the grandparents' garden in Brittany, do art workshops with children outdoors.
I like watching absurd comedies and Woody Allen films
I am so grateful airbnb exists because I met with a lot of people that stayed at our house and got to show them a very different version of the island, the little places we know, etc.
