About this listing
This is a fully renovated stone house from (website hidden)-done in our own style everything from scratch. We have organic veggies delivered at home and this can be arranged for all our guests. We will guide you to the best places for wine, music and food!
Hello, we re renting our house in the old town of Heraklion Crete.
It is in a quiet pedestrian street, complete renovation finished january 2010, in the heart of the city, 2 minutes from the sea front and the Natural History Museum, 5 minutes from any place in the center, 5 minutes from the Historic Museum of Crete. An ideal spot with friends or family for discovering real Crete. Roof terasse, fully equiped kitchen, 90 sq metres. Free parking possible in the area.
And yes, you will have the house to yourselves!
AND you can use our bicycles while here - Heraklio is really a perfect city for this - the distances are just great for this and there is a bicycle route across the sea that is most pleasant and will take you to the beach.
Walkable distance to the old harbor and to the ferry port.
You can shop for food and just about anything in our area, from tasty cheese and olives to great tavernas.
We provide with guidebooks, maps and brochures for renting cars etc for your excursions.
We are also connected with the organic / cooperative network in Heraklio, so many great addresses and tips on where to taste something different or have a drink while contributing to the development of sustainable farming and agriculture on the island.
The house has two floors, the ground floor is a loft-like open space with a big living room, a workstation, a kitchen and a small bathroom, a small patio brings light and air, the walls are apparent stone and keep the temperature low even on very hot days in the summer.
The kitchen has about everything you may need and of course we will take care of leaving some Raki and local wine for you to taste. The upper floor holds two luminous bedrooms and a library that has recently been converted to a bunk bed room, a balcony and a terrace. There are two double beds and 2 bunk beds. The secondary bedroom has no door, the bed is on a wooden loft.
And most importantly there is the roof terrace, the jewel of our house where you can have lunch or stay for hours at dinner time and enjoy the cool Cretan breeze.
We are both artists and renovated this house (when we left Paris to live on Crete) with a lot of love and used the necessary time and natural local materials to make it unique. I think you will enjoy the simplicity and charm of its style. We leave everything as it is, you will be coming to a house of character!
Possibility of providing baby equipment for families, bedding, toys, car seat etc
We have installed bunk beds in our children's room - adult size so we ve increased the capacity by 2 beds - for bigger groups of friends!
Rent negociable for long term stays.
Most importantly this is a place you could call home.
Hoping to see you soon
E & V.
Upon request you may use our bicycles if available at that time. We will direct you to the kind of beach you re looking for, or archeological site.
Interaction with Guests
When we have guests we try to be helpful when needed, to show people around Heraklio but also let them have their calm island vacation. We will be close upon a phone call or anything you may need but we dont live in the house with you. It is all yours!
its calm with many old ladies that adooooore saying hi to everyone!
Everything is close to our house, you can walk to anywhere or catch a bus to the countryside
hello there, we promise there are no special rules,
treat our house with respect, we love it and hope that you ll love it too
please be kind to our plants, there is an automatic watering system so there is nothing to do
Use anything you wish to cook and eat, that s why it is all there
Be careful with water !!! Crete has a real water supply problem and we all need to be responsible and not waste water, most people here receive water only a few hours every day and we all have a system for stocking water on our roofs. In our house it is all taken care of course, but we all still need to care.
There are many books to read and in many languages, guidebooks about Crete and of course we are here to help you with all the info you may need.
Oh yes, no smoking in the house, please !
Location was amazing, very central and walking distance to everything! House was super quirky and cosy, we loved it.
It was unbearably hot in the bedrooms upstairs though and we struggled to sleep. It was the middle of summer however.
Eirini's father was a super hospitable host. Very friendly, enthusiastic and full of lively stories. He waited for our delayed plane arrival without complaint and showed us everything we needed to know.
We had a few issues with the toilet and electricity at one stage but again it was fixed super promptly which was much appreciated.
Eirini and Vincent replied to all queries super quickly and also seemed really friendly.
Highly recommend staying here :)
We enjoyed our time at the house. Great location within walking distance to many sights. Vargelis was very welcoming, kind and helpful and Eirini was very responsive. My kids enjoyed the toys that were available. My only concern about the house was the cleanliness. The bathroom and kitchen could use a deep clean. The stove was covered in grease and the fridge was very dirty. The house was very cluttered with personal belongings that should have been removed before renting out the house.
Hi Jessica. We are very sorry about this situation. We don't have complaints in general - we will of course try to understand what happened. I know that my father who was responsible for the house rushed to help you when you called that there was no dishwasher powder left, and he did everything he could to accommodate you. I am sorry the house was not to your standards but in general we have very good feedback from families who enjoy that the children actually find toys and books to occupy themselves. We also have great contact with the families that we get to meet and a lot of people come back. Yes, there are our belongings in our house but it is our home and I have stayed in several homes around the world where I enjoyed the same proximity with owners and sense of community. I am sorry the standard of cleanness was not satisfying to you but I check on my cleaning lady and I am sorry to hear your comments. I would have been more that happy to send a second cleaning service and refund your stay would you have contacted me directly to tell me. Maybe you would feel better in a hotel rather than a home. I am sorry any part of your experience was unpleasant, I generally enjoy very much the contact with the people that come to our place. Thank you again for visiting us
We were welcomed by host's father who's enthusiasm about Crete, and Ireklion were infectious! The house was exactly as described, although I would say it was larger than we expected. We were there with young children, and not having AC in the house made night times a little tough as we are not acclimatised and had come from accommodation with AC.. but it didn't spoil our stay. The kids loved playing with all the toys and using the "making table" as they called it. We found it a brilliant location within the city, managed to get out for a run around the historic city walls, and walked to the harbour and museums.. the Archiological Museum is an absolute gem.. although not very welcoming of children we found (they were terrified we were going to break 1000 year old vases!) all in all a great first time AirB&B experience, thank you to the hosts, 35degree heat and Cretion's hospitality everywhere we went.. enjoy.
Great local apartment that is really in touch with the life of Heraklion! Vincent was a huge help: waiting for us to arrive, sorting out any problems that we had and recommending things to do around the area. Would definitely recommend taking advantage of the roof terrace! Note needs to be taken to the lack of air conditioning upstairs, however there is a fan.
We had an enjoyable stay here. It was close enough to everything within the old city (we walked a lot), but still a fairly quiet residential area. It was perfect for our family of 4 with plenty of puzzles and toys for the kids during our down time.
Thank you Eirini for a lovely stay at your home. Vangelis made us so very welcome and helped us to decide where we should visit.

About the Host, Eirini
Hi I am a video artist and sculptor living between Heraklio and Paris. I travel a lot with my husband and our two sons. We enjoy discovering new tastes, places, walking in the mountains, watching the Charlie Parker festival in Harlem, play with the boys at the Tompkins Square park, eat strawberries from the grandparents' garden in Brittany, do art workshops with children outdoors.
I like watching absurd comedies and Woody Allen films
I am so grateful airbnb exists because I met with a lot of people that stayed at our house and got to show them a very different version of the island, the little places we know, etc.
