Interaction with Guests
There are many things to do in the Amazons, if you plan to come with not a lot in mind or need advice, please let me know ahead of time... Glad to help you make the most out of your trip.
The House is located in the beautiful City of Iquitos. We are not in Downtown as transportation is very noisy due to the constant MOTOCARS running 24/7. Yet we are just minutes away from all that noise but in a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by the jungle, Within 8 min to Downtown and Iquitos Airport. You may find a lot of authentic Peruvian cuisine restaurants and bars within walking distance.
Iquitos is one of the few cities in the world that runs 99% on MOTOCARS (motorcycles transformed into a tricycle for carrying passengers). And the other 1% on local colectivos (bus). No need to rent a car as you will find it difficult to navigate with all the MOTOCARS.
Other Things to Note
Full bath room, with ample shower, always with hot water .
The house rules are general sense and therefore would be difficult to enumerate, respect for what is contracted and not wanting to abuse our good faith and that is what we take for nature, guests may not be accompanied by any do not be in the same condition (guest) otherwise only say that the rules would be logical coexistence.
Air conditioning is extra $ 5 USD per day
Xavier is the man. After arriving in Iquitos the tour company I was working with made the timing of my arrival to Xavier's confusing to say the least. Xavier was very understanding and prompt in replying to me and allowed me great flexibility on my arrival time. Finally, upon arriving at Xavier's I was distraught to say the least. I had an 8:00 am flight the next morning and the office of the tour company where I left my luggage was locked and nobody was answering my calls. Xavier did a great job of comforting me and was extremely nice and helpful. He takes the "mi casa es su casa" concept very seriously. He poured me some fresh delicious orange juice and made me feel both welcome and calm. The house itself is immensely beautiful and is located 5 mins from the airport and 10 mins from the plaza de armas in Iquitos. For reference, I paid about $1 USD to go to the airport the next morning. A little before it was time for me to make my departure he insisted that I eat some delicious homemade breakfast in his kitchen, and then graciously offered to personally visit the tour company offices after I left and then ship my luggage to me. I can't express in this review how much that meant to me. I had been traveling over S. America for the past several weeks and I did not once come across such amazing kindness. To be fair, it is rare to find someone of such honest character anywhere in the world. Xavier is the kind of person that after meeting them, you automatically wish they were your friend. If you are staying in Iquitos, and not staying with Xavier, you would say you are doing yourself a disservice. After several days discovering the wonders of the Amazon I hardly expected to be this surprised or amazed by the place I chose to spend the night before catching my flight. I fell in love with the jungle and am already planning a return visit to Iquitos. The bottom line for me is, if there is no vacancy at Xavier's when I plan my trip I will simply change the dates to when there is. I have traveled the world fairly extensively and it is no understatement to say this is hands down one of the best places I have ever stayed.
Xavier is an amazing host. He goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable in his great house. "Mi casa es tu casa." No wonder the reviews are so awesome - such a gentleman! The room and bed were comfortable for a good night of sleep. Xavier is generous, easy going and fun to talk to. He was very patient with my rusty Spanish and speaks very clearly. Hope to see him again somewhere around the world. All the best mi amigo!
We had an incredible experience at Xavier's! Him and his wife were so welcoming and made us feel at home. Their house is beautiful with a huge backyard, where they keep various misplaced and endangered animals that they care for. Xavier even allowed us to play with the baby jaguar and monkey he was currently caring for! This was definitely a highlight of our trip to Peru! Xavier's wife was also sweet enough to cook us a wonderful breakfast before we left in the morning. Thank you so much Xavier for this amazing experience.
Wow. Xavier's house is just perfect. A little off-site, away from all the noise of this wild city. We enjoyed this bnb a lot. It actually has a breakfast, which is not always the case ;) I dare to say, the best airbnb I had a pleasure to stay at so far. Strongly recommended for animal-lovers! Thanks Xavier!
Xavier was the perfect host. He did everything to make you feel at home. If you are only English speaking, it can at times be awkward, but with my limited Spanish and his limited English we actually succeeded at conversing one night :). The house is incredible. It's not just a room, you are renting. You have access to this huge house and property. He gladly picked me up at the airport and there was breakfast every morning. I can't say enough about Xavier and the young lady that helps him out during the day. I definitely recommend this property.
Really relaxed place to stay, one of the cleanest and well maintained places of my trip so far! Xavier and Karina are very helpful and nice. 15/20 min with a moto from the centre as mentioned before, I would like to say make good note of where to get out on your way back. First time I made the mistake not too and in the dark I had to search a little. Also my moto taxi didn't know the landmark Iglesia San Juan situated across the street, which didn't help :)
Only thing, there isn't really any place to 'relax' inside, like a sofa or comfortable chairs or something. Xavier said he was working on it so I trust it will be ok in the future. There are hammocks outside though!
Thank you for your evaluation, we feel that his inexperienced taxi driver did not know a reference such as the historic church, fortunately not common, also we felt that all types of chairs none of them were comfortable, sun loungers, hammocks and different designs of chairs, sorry his criticism will help us as we save it, we are pleased that we only have to improve this small point of your stay.
