Description

The space

This apartment is your home away from home!! Full of amenities this cozy apartment located a few minutes from the city and nearby trains and busses it's the perfect place to stay when visiting NYC. This private bedroom is located on a first floor apartment giving you a quiet and tranquil environment which you will enjoy after a long day of sightseeing or exploring the streets of New York.

The bedroom is private and the bathroom will be share with me an another airbnb guest I might have in the other room, the bedroom has a queen size bed, a chair, nightstand, a lamp and a closet with hangers, a clean set of sheets, blanket and a towel per person are provided with the room, there's a radiator in the room to keep the room warm and cozy during the winter, I have no control over the amount of heat provided since I rent I don't own the place but if it gets too hot, the room has a fan to keep some equilibrium on the temperature, the window is also operable without any keys so guests can open it to let some air come in the room, the other room I rent with airbnb is right next to this room and my room is at the other end of the apt right by the living room as you can see on the pictures, the bathroom is closer to the rooms I rent, right next to them. I also have 2 cameras monitoring the apt to keep everyone safe (not that I ever need them but I figured is better to be safe than sorry).

Astoria is an amazing neighborhood that is extremely close to NYC. Full of delicious and trendy restaurants (Greek, Japanese, Italian, etc.) as well as exciting bars and cafes. Your stay in this neighborhood will be a pleasant one. Supermarkets are all walking distance as well as pharmacies. Pretty much anything you need can be found in this area. Some attractions in Astoria that you can enjoy is the Moma PS 1 museum, Astoria Park, Kaufman Studios.

I enjoyed my stay with Angelo. He was very understanding when my train into town was delayed and I had to check in past the check-in time, and the room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. I didn't get to speak with Angelo very much but he was very kind and offered help if I needed anything. Would recommend!

IT WAS THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE PLACE TO STAY. The house location was not bad and cleaness was not bad. BUT he made us so strictly and when something happens he usually said to us even though we were not responsible for the occasion. He should never be the host : Our room was freezing as ice and it was late so we did not asked about it to him. Next morning we asked about the temperature of our room, however he kept asked us whether we understood about the word he said. Rather he should have been more helpful and gentle just like we were last day. Little communication was made, could not get help we need. We were accused of security risk : the gas stove , as a matter of fact we never used the household.

Welcoming and nice neighborhood! However, we didn't get anything when we arrived while the other guests received snacks and soda. Also, it was not really clean. The shower curtain (to hide the window) was rotted as the room between the shower and sink. There are also some garbage under the bed. The heating system works pretty bad (either too hot and noisy, either nothing). We also paid more than we should have because of a confusion when booking. Angelo didn't seem to be eager to make it right. Though, we appreciated being able to use the kitchen and Angelo is friendly!

Response from Angelo:
1. The snacks and drinks I offer are not mandatory for me to leave for eveyone as it is not described in the listing, so Marine can't really complain about not getting them. 2. The shower curtain is not to hide the window but to protect the (wood frame with no water protection) that my "smart" landlord installed next to the shower. I usually change that curtain once every 6 weeks but since December was so busy with so many people taking showers, it got dirtier sooner but not to the point to make it a big deal. 3. I gave Marine a clean room, if it wasn't clean as she says, she should have told me at any of the 2 or 3 times I asked her if everything was ok during her stay, she never said anything, everything was always ok for her, that's why her review surprises me. 4. Heading systems in NY when on make noises, not only in my apt but everywhere because steam runs through the pipes to warm up houses and buildings and the steam running through the pipes is the noises she mentions. And if they are not on it's because it's not very cold, the NYC law stablishes a minimum and a maximum outside temperature during the day and night for heading systems to mandatory operate. And I have no control over it. 5. My rates in December as any other Airbnb listing in NY are high, Marine booked my room way in advance before I could set my new rates for the busy season so she got a really really cheap room compared to any other listing, I could have just canceled her reservation and take another person after setting up my rates but I didn't, that's why it's kind of funny she complains about paying "more" than what she should have paid.

Everything was as described. The place was nice and cozy, clean, and welcoming. It was a great experience. The location was also great, near some really great restaurants.

So after a long back and forth about my arrival time, I soon realized that he's so strict because his landlord doesn't know that he's using his spare rooms for AirBnb. He's a nice enough guy when you comply with his mile long list of rules, but not someone that should be hosting strangers in his home. Then after having a huge bug run across my legs while in bed, I laid there wide awake all night to the sounds of that old squishy bed creaking with any sort of movement. I've never been more uncomfortable in a place. There are just bad vibes here. By all means stay here if you can't afford a hostel, but I probably would have slept better on the street.

Response from Angelo:
I doubt there was any bug in the room, I keep the rooms spotless and when I cleaned the room, once this person left, there was no dead bug, wonder if he took it home with him.. every host has rules, they are on the website for everyone to see before making any reservations, if this person didn't like my rules (which are very simple and one would expect this kind of rules from a person having strangers at home) he could just book another room, don't understand why he booked my room if he didn't like my rules, my rules simply protect me and my other guests (I rent 2 rooms with airbnb in the same apt) from bad guests, and it's funny that he even mentions my rules, when he didn't follow them, he brought his boyfriend to my apt, for all I know he could have put me or my other airbnb guest whom was a girl in danger, when one of my rules clearly states I don't allow visitors in my apt, I didn't make it a big deal and I let his boyfriend to stay, that's why is funny he even mentions my rules. About the bed, I guess is only his way to screw me for (not being happy with my rules) because all the reviews I have for this room that mention anything about the bed, consider the bed cozy, 20 or so people considering cozy against one frustrated guy, I think leaves it pretty clear.

My name is Giancarlo Angelo, Gian or Giancarlo for friends and the airbnb community, I'm 27 years old, I live in Astoria, NY since 2009. I love traveling, meeting new people and learning about other cultures, that's why I love airbnb so much because it gives me the opportunity to do both things as a guest and as a host.
