About this listing
You will feel comfortable and happy the moment you set foot in the villa. The villa itself is modern, large and clean. The staff will cater to your every wish. But the best thing is the location; quiet, serene and breathtakingly beautiful.
The property is located in one of the most beautiful parts of one of the most beautiful islands in the world. It is surrounded by terraced rice fields, offering stunning views in all directions, including volcanoes (extinct), a mountain range, patches of jungle and the ocean with neighboring islands in the distance. The location is a unique combination of private seclusion and easy access to all the restaurants, shopping and services of Bali's No. 2 tourist destination of Ubud, a mere 6 kms away.
The villa is right in the middle of a sea of rice fields, on a gradual upslope to Mount Batur, a double caldera volcano that offers one of the most breathtaking views on the planet. Mount Agung, the most revered peak in Bali, looms to the northeast. The Central Mountains to the west provide often often spectacular scenes, as the clouds shroud them or the sun sets behind them. You will never tire of the views !!
We offer a full service vacation rental experience, including a healthy and hearty breakfast, swimming pool, satellite flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, daily maid service and many other amenities.
We have nothing but glowing reviews of our villas and services. You can find us listed at (website hidden) listing 305814, where you can read the many reviews from past guests.
Your Surroundings: You will have the opportunity to watch the surrounding rice fields being worked, with each time of year offering something special, from the reflecting ponds just prior to planting, to the gentle swaying of the yellowing rice before harvest. Our garden has many exotic plants and flowers, some of which you can pick for cut flower arrangements in the house. Butterflies will entertain you during the day and fireflies will enchant you at night. You may never want to leave the confines of our little paradise.
Close By: There are at least a dozen major tourist attractions within an hour's drive. Some of the most photographed of Bali's rice fields are only 3 km away, and Ubud offers a wide array of cultural and artistic attractions, including more art galleries and shops per square kilometer than New York or London. The ocean is about 25km away, while the tourist meccas of Kuta and Seminyak are about 35km from Ubud. The airport for Bali is 40km from Ubud, but a taxi will cost you only about the equivalent of $25 US, depending on your bargaining skills. We can help arrange your airport transfers, local transport or vehicle rental needs.
Whether you are coming to Ubud for one of its well known events, such as Bali Spirit Festival or the Readers and Writers Festival, to hone your yoga or meditation skills, or just to relax and enjoy the magical atmosphere, staying at Villa Lotus will only enhance your experience. We guarantee a wonderful time here !!
Our guests have access to the entire villa and the pool, as well as pool deck and very small garden area. There is a larger garden which belongs to our house, but you are welcome to use that anytime.
Interaction with Guests
As your host, I will be available during your stay to help coordinate the staff, so your every need is well taken care of, as well as being available to provide tips, make activity bookings, dinner reservations, arrange in house (in villa) massages, etc.
I am also available prior to your arrival, via e-mail or phone, to provide general information on Ubud and Bali, travel tips, info on visas, local transportation, tours and activities you might be interested in taking, airport transfers, etc.
Ubud is the cultural and artistic center of Bali, as well as being amazingly beautiful, from a scenic standpoint. Every imaginable tourist activity and convenience is available in Ubud or the surrounding areas. Having lived here since 2009, I am in a great position to help you to enjoy all of what the area offers.
One of the best things about our property is the quiet and somewhat secluded location. We are just a bit off the beaten path, but still with super easy access to Ubud, for shopping, restaurants, activities, and the like. We are only 10 minutes from Ubud by car or scooter, and we have an informal, on demand, shuttle service to and from Ubud. Taxis are also available and can be arranged on short notice to pick you up at the villa and take you anywhere.
We have a scooter that we rent to guests, which provides full independence in terms of transportation needs. We also have 2 bicycles which we rent out, for trips to Ubud or for exploring the surrounding rice fields.
We are a small family run business, and therefore must maintain a strict cancellation policy. If you do have to cancel, and we are able to re-rent the villa, we will certainly provide a refund.
No pets allowed. Smoking is permitted, but only outside.
This place was as gorgeous as it looks in the photos, with two stories and 1.5 baths. The biggest benefits of this villa: 1) beautiful views secluded from city bustle, 2) full service including: Max booking all our tour activities and pickups, a personal villa driver, scooter rentals, breakfast and maid service every day. Having Max make all the arrangements is a huge plus as we didn't have to research/book with companies ourselves and the pickups were hassle-free. The villa has many local recommendations in its guidebook.
It feels like a beautiful paradise and is well furnished and decorated. It's truly in the middle of the rice paddies, with local farmers working 10m from the pool. They provided a local phone to contact the host and also to order breakfast every morning (eggs or french toast/pancakes, coffee, tea, fruit). There are also on-site massages. There's a mini kitchen with two burners and a fridge if you want to cook, although we didn't see many grocery stores in town.
The description doesn't mention that it's directly adjoining another identical villa and the pool is shared.
It's quite remote so we definitely recommend renting a scooter (63k/day) for a 15 min ride to ubud or to book the driver, Nyoman, for ~70k rupiah to Ubud downtown or 650k-850k rupiah for a day trip to other parts of the island. There's no food or shops within walking distance and the roads are bumpy and unpaved. This isn't Seminyak/Kuta - come here for a relaxing cultural/romantic vacation, not to party! :)
A few things to note/cons: you are in the middle of nature so we learned to lived with bugs (ants, flying bugs, etc) in the house. If you're a light sleeper, you'll be woken up by rooster calls and prayer chants every morning at 6am (this is the Bali way!). The shower temperature only has two settings of scalding or freezing and has really low pressure, but Max said he'd plan to address this. It's about an hour and half from the DPS airport and you should definitely book airport transport via Max, as the villa isn't easy to find or direct people to (there's no address), costs around 450k rupiah. The wifi is extremely slow so don't plan to do work here or stream movies.
Thanks for all the kind words, Aurimas. I'm very happy you enjoyed the villa.
The hot water heater was serviced the day you checked out and is working fine now. I'm sorry for the issues you had with the hot water. It was a brand new water heater and apparently needed to be adjusted a couple of times to operate perfectly.
I'm also sorry about the flying insects and ants. We do our best to control the insects, but since most people like to have the sliding doors and windows open, it is difficult to eliminate all insects completely.
Yes, there are a couple of roosters in the neighborhood, but luckily quite far away (200m+), and the temple noises you mentioned were more regular during your stay, because of a big ceremony at that time. Bali does have some unique noises, but our location is actually very, very quiet, compared to most.
Yes, by Western standards the Wi-Fi is slow, but by Bali standards, it's pretty good, actually.
Thanks again for your feedback. Hope to see you here again some day.
It was an absolute delight to stay at this villa! In real life it looks even better than as displayed in the pictures. The stylish bedroom with very comfortable bed overlooks the rice fields and in the evening we spotted fireflies from the balcony. In the mornings, after a swim in the pool you can immediately jump into the half-outside shower and have a delicious fresh breakfast that's brought to the villa.
Max is an excellent host: he booked all our activities (the eco biking tour, Bali cooking class, snorkling trip and canyoning tour), suggested the best places to have dinner or see dance performances and he was very easy to contact. His very attentive and friendly staff accomodated to our every need.
We hired Max's scooter to drive into Ubud (15-20 min), it was great fun and the surroundings are beautiful.
We loved our stay here and highly recommend it to anybody!
We found Max and his property to be the perfect start to our Bali trip, complete with the hassle free professional airport pickup The property is definitely even better than you understand from the photos, a full Villa, 2 floors with a a private infinity pool over really beautiful rice paddies (shared with 1 other adjacent villa, although the villa was vacant during our stay). We rented Max's "Scoopy" motor bike which gave us great freedom during the stay. It is a pleasant ride to and around town we definitely appreciated making it back "home" after a day out We also did Max's recommended mountain bike eco-tourism trip which was very enjoyable and educational, nice information to start our trip.
This Villa is awsome!
Max and his Team is more than nice and helped us with everything we needed!
We booked a One Day Trip with nyoman, the driver of max staff and it was more than perfect!
The breakfast was arranged everyday from staff Mina, and she brought us everything we wanted.
A very nice and clean villa!
We arrived Midnight and it wasnt a Problem to pick us up from airport and Show us the Villa! Very hospitality!!
We stayed there for 6 Nights so the Transfer to and from the Villa was included.
I recommend the Villa to everybody who want to Travel to Bali :)
Thanks max for everything!!!
Max was an amazing host. Our check in and check out went without a hitch. He was always available and highly accommodating. The listing itself was absolutely gorgeous. His staff was also very hospitable and lovely.
We had a brilliant time at Villa Lotus - it was absolutely fantastic.
My partner & I stayed here as part of our honeymoon & it's lovely for a romantic getaway.
The villa looks exactly as it does in the photos. It's actually one of two villas next to each other. If you booked both -it would make a great place to getaway with friends as well.
The bedroom was beautiful - big windows and a huge four poster bed & a balcony with a view over the rice paddies.
We loved sitting up there in the afternoon - it was like looking at a living painting.
The infinity pool overlooking the rice paddies is gorgeous -very refreshing.
The breakfast was great- I recommend the banana pancakes - and we both loved the fact that the water at the villa is safe to drink straight from the tap ( and it tasted great)
Max's villa is a bit out of town - but the drive with temples on the roadside and rice paddies is gorgeous. We actually enjoyed being a bit out of Ubud. We hired a scooter from Max which gave us total freedom.
Ubud was nice - but so busy - with tons of traffic.
We also organized a driver a couple of times when we wanted to go out in Ubud for cocktails & dinner and we also ordered takeaway to be delivered - all of which was very easy and cheap to do.
Max was- really - the perfect host. He was quick to respond to emails, sent us detailed information about the villa and made useful suggestions.
Once we arrived - everything we had organized ran like clockwork and Max helped us organize new things as well.
He was very hospitable, always available but at the same time never ever intrusive. It's a delicate balance and Max has it down perfectly.
We are already talking about a trip back to Indonesia - perhaps to Java - but we would definitely make sure to plan a few nights at Max's at the end of our trip.
Highly recommend Villa Lotus- would love to come back!
if you going to this villa with a special other it won't be so remote. However, if you are going alone ask Max to get you a scooter. It only cost 60000 rupiah ($6 AUD) per day and it will only take you 20 minutes to scoot into the centre of Ubud. It will also allow you to see the surrounding areas of Tegalalang.
About the Host, Max
I have been running this small bed and breakfast business for 5 years now. I live on the same property with my 7 year old son, but our house is almost 50 meters from the villa. My staff and I are very committed to making sure our guests have a great stay with us, as well as a wonderful Bali experience.
Before moving to Bali, I was a lawyer in Canada. I also did high speed photography of liquids in motion, and until recently, had a Gallery displaying my work here in Ubud. I have always enjoyed traveling and Bali was one of my favorite travel destinations. Now it is home.
I still enjoy photography, as well as yoga and motorcycles.
