The Space

This sweet 1.75 bedroom apartment is within 2 blks from 24th St Mission BART station and over 30 trendy restaurants, shops, bars, cafes, grocery stores. If you're willing to walk more than 2 blocks, then the options for delicious food multiply. My place is in the heart of the trendy Mission District. I'm located half a block from Cafe Revolution, which has live jazz every night in a open cafe style and half a block from Beretta and Lolo, two great local restaurants, Italian and fusion Latin small plates, respectively.

It's a cozy but spacious feeling Victorian apartment with tall ceilings and lots of sunshine through the bay windows facing south from the kitchen with a view of Bernal Hill, and west from the living room and bedroom with views of Twin Peaks. The main bedroom is larger (12x14') with a tall bay window and lots of light and view. The other room is a nook-cave with no window and no door, just curtains. (I use this room as a guest room and for my massage practice because it's really dark and quiet.)

I rent out the entire apartment when I'm gone. It has a main bedroom and a nook. The bedroom has a queen size bed, a view from a bay window, closets, dresser and door. The nook also has a queen bed, but is smaller, dark (no windows) and quiet; has curtains, shelves and an armoire, but without the door is not as private. The apartment can sleep 4 as a result of the nook, but please note that the two rooms are not equal. I also will charge $160/night for use of both rooms.

In general, I love being a host, making recommendations and then letting people explore on their own. I've lived in San Francisco for 17 years so I know the city quite well. I also love hiking and bicycling so I can make recommendations for great urban hikes to rare stairway streets and outdoor activities as well as where to eat (I'm a foodie), local music venues and places to go dancing...all kinds of dancing.

There are many produce stores along Mission St. The closest being on Mission & 23rd. But a good produce and grocery store that has more organic options is Valencia Produce on the corner of 24th & Valencia. On the opposite side of Valencia is a bakery called Arizmendi, that's worth checking out if you like baked goods...and then there's Mission Pie for amazing pies and savory galettes and quiche on the corner of 25th & Mission--a must go in my opinion. Then there's Luca Deli (Italian) on the corner of 22nd & Valencia. And for a pretty good late night liquor store or ice cream need, the store on the corner of 23rd & Guerrero is good. I recommend Three Twins ice cream--Dad's Cardamom is amazing!

Papalote on 24th is worth a visit for their fish tacos. Otherwise, nearby I like La Corneta on Mission between 23rd & 24th--order the grilled mushrooms and green onions on whatever you order. If you're near 16th St, my favorite taqueria is Pancho Villa. Get their grilled veggies on whatever you order.

If you want a late night quick fix slice of pizza, the Escape from New York pizza on 22nd at Bartlett is pretty good actually, for New York style pizza. And my favorite restaurant is Lolo's right next door to that (really delicious and charming place serving innovative Latin fusion food--I recommend (email hidden) or at least in that room). Cafe Revolution, on that same corner, has live jazz every night starting at 8, except Monday's is classical chamber music. On the same note, my favorite local bar is Amnesia on Wednesdays 7-10pm is gypsy jazz; Monday nights is bluegrass and Friday nights a mixed but good bag too. They both serve beer and wine only, no mixed drinks. A cool, hip bar is the Royal Cuckoo up Mission where it meets Valencia, especially on Sunday night for Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers.

Great gelato on 22nd & Capp at La Copa Loca. Awesome, unique ice cream and gourmet grocery store called Bi-Rite on 18th street, past Guerrero. It's very near Dolores Park which is a total local hangout scene for picnics and just chilling in the park on nice days. Get your picnic goodies at Bi-Rite.

For coffee, Ritual Coffee on Valencia & 21st is closest and very good or Philz on 24th & Folsom. The vibes are really different in both. I believe there's Internet available in both.

I'd recommend just walking from my place down Valencia to 16th and then back on Mission all the way to 24th and around to get a feel of all that's available to you in the hood.

  • Great location : 2 mns walking distance from Valencia street (bars, restaurants, grocery, shopping...) and one blocks away from Bart station. Very sunny and cosy apartment. Yaella is a very friendly and helpful host. We appreciated all the advises she gave us about the neigbourhood. One thing : As the building is old, pressure water in the shower is very limited.

  • Yaella was the sweetest host! Her place was the perfect size for the four of us and she provided everything we could have needed during our stay. If I'm ever back in San Francisco I will definitely try and stay here again.

  • Great stay! Rooms are as they look in pictures. Location was fantastic for us since we wanted to be near our friends in the Mission. The view from her front window is amazing, particularly at night. Only downside is what others have already mentioned...the water pressure is low. However, the water temperature can get nice and hot, so that helps! Yaella was very accommodating. We had no problems getting the keys and she was very flexible on our leave time since she had no one coming in after us. We would without a doubt stay here again! Highly recommended. First AirBnB experience, and I hope all the others are the same.

  • We had a great stay at Yaella's apartment. The apartment is bright and sunny and felt very homely in decor and feel. It is very conveniently located in the middle of the Mission District. Yaella was really flexible, communicative and helpful. I couldn't figure out how to turn the oven on, and Yaella responded straight away to my text and talked me through it, no problem.
We would absolutely recommend staying at this apartment, and would stay again ourselves!

  • Yaella is an amazing host. She is super friendly and accommodating and did everything she could to make my stay effortless and wonderful. Which it was. I fell in love with her place and highly recommend it. It's light and airy and very San Francisco with really gorgeous views to Twin Peaks and all around. It's a lovely sanctuary yet in the heart of such a vibrant area. I would love to stay there again.

  • We had such a great time at Yaella's! The apartment was bigger than it looked in the pictures. The views from the living room, bedroom and kitchen are fantastic- so beautiful to watch the fog roll in over the Twin Peaks. The apartment is full of light, on the top floor of an older apartment building The street is in between two main streets, Mission which has easy convenient access to public transportation, and Valencia, which is packed with more bars and restaurants than I could count. Yaella's place is on a side street, nice and quiet, though there is some street noise on weekend nights. The bedding was clean and comfortable. I love this apartment and hope to stay there again next time I am in San Francisco. Thanks Yaella!

  • Great apartment, great neighborhood, great city. The apartment is beautiful and filled with sunlight, and Yaella was a most gracious host. She provided great recommendations for restaurants and other places in the area. The Mission is a very cool part of town and makes for a wonderful base to explore San Francisco away from the major tourist areas. You can get everywhere you want to go on foot, by bus, or by BART. I highly recommend this apartment.

  • The description of this property failed to mention how charming it was and full of light! It was beautifully decorated with rich colors and objects from around the world. It has a great sunny kitchen, wonderful views of the city especially at night and more space than the photographs allow. Yaella was a wonderful host who went far beyond with her helpfulness and recommendations. We arrived in the evening and Yaella sat down with my husband and I at her kitchen table and patiently answered all of our questions about the area and what it had to offer. She was delightful, informative and it was very apparent that she cares about people. Even though it was in the city, we slept so well because of the quiet neighborhood at night. The Mission district has so much to offer in terms of markets and restaurants. I highly recommend this apartment to anyone who loves the excitment of city living especially young couples or singles travelling.

About
I am a very friendly, honest, caring person and I love to be host. I had the great fortune of growing up overseas and traveling a lot with my family, and thus, I enjoy meeting people from all around the world and like to make them feel at home. My apartment is in an old Victorian style building built in the 1920s and feels well lived in. I am not a neat freak and I admit that I have a bit too much stuff in my place, but I hire someone to clean before renting out my place. My decor style is mostly Asian. I have several Buddhas and wood carvings and tapestries. I love to cook so I have a well equipped kitchen, albeit small, but it feels bigger because of the bay window and the view. I work out of my home as as Private Chef, Caterer and Heathly, Yummmy Lifestyle & Cooking Coach, as well as a Seniors Yoga teacher and Thai yoga massage therapist and instructor. I like to mix it up.
