Your private room (haven) is in a 2 bedroom period stone cottage in the beautiful Lune Valley, nestled directly between the Lakes District and Yorkshire Dales.
A quick drive to both the Lakes District and the Yorkshire Dales and a short stroll to banks of the River Lune - nestled beside the A683 - originally the cottage belonged to the Manor House and then was converted in the early 1980s to the current layout which is atmospheric as it enjoys a central position within the historic village of Melling.
* Please note this listing is for the single, not the double room *
We love hosting guests through airbnb. Everybody's so friendly and the travel chats are fun, swapping tips of best places to see and visit.
The cottage is simple, but homely and attractive full of traditional furnishings and cottage touches (Including the odd patch of worn carpet downstairs, lol!). The style is shabby chic in that the cottage hasn't been renovated since the 1980s and some areas of carpet and a few of the fittings are in need of attention. This is why our rates are generally more affordable than other Lakes District and Yorkshire Dales Cottage accommodation. Perhaps too the shabby chic style is part of its appeal. It is a charming traditional cottage with a period feel that includes a warm, cosy living room and kitchen. The cottage is a TV free zone, but if you have your own laptop you can access much better viewing online via the unlimited broadband wifi anyway.
The quiet village location in the Lune Valley is idyllic. In the nearby market village of Kirkby Lonsdale just a few minutes drive away (also accessible by bus, as are Ingleton and Lancaster) Turner painted a view that has been described as the best in all of England. Beyond the peaceful surrounds there are the nearby Dales and the Lakes national parks. The cottage is right on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales. You can be exploring the beautiful village of Ingleton in just a few minutes. Meanwhile the panorama of the Lakes District is only thirty (Kendal), or forty (Windermere) minutes drive away. Close to two areas of outstanding natural beauty, this is an idyllic place to be any time of the year.
Please note that this rental is for the single bedroom, not the double. There is also a double sofa bed in the lounge which can be booked for an extra £15/night when booking the single room. Please ask for more details.
Breakfast of fresh eggs, toast and choice of preserves can be provided at a cost of £3 extra.
Sorry for the security deposit. That's just to deter those who don't care. The deposit is held by airbnb and of course, no damage guarantees a full refund.

Interaction with Guests
We are happy to interact as much, or as little as you like. We both love swapping travel stories, although as writers we often work quietly on our own too. Evenings tend to be our peak chat times.
A special place - having the fells, the dales, mountains, rivers and sea just a short drive away. No traffic jams, a slower pace of life and historic cities like Lancaster, Kendal and Windemere in easy access. All welcome guests to the area.
Bus service runs right past the house. Buses run in both directions to Hornby, Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton and also Lancaster.
The cottage sits beside the A683 in Melling, less than 2 miles to Wennington Train Station.
There are stunning drives in every direction. Drive to the Lakes District, the Yorkshire Dales, to Lancaster, York, Liverpool, Manchester and Scotland.
If you don't have a car we can pick you up from Wennington Train Station. For an extra fee we may also be able to pick you up coming to, or from Lancaster (£10) and/or take you out touring some days for the cost of the petrol and lunch - just let us know if that interests you and we'll happily do what we can to help you have a perfect holiday.
Other Things to Note
We heat our hot water via a boiler. Please let us know what time you'd like a shower, or bath so that we can ensure that the water is hot for you.
Guests who are as mindful of the peace of this home as much as their own enjoyment are very welcome to come and enjoy this country haven.
I was made to feel welcome even before I arrived. Both Matt and Bronwin were very engaging in conversation and gave me advice on places to see. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and their home. Thanks to both of them.
It was a joy to meet Bronwin and Matt. They made me feel very welcome, lovely coffee. I enjoyed staying in the comfortable small room and slept well in the single bed.
Bronwin and Matt were super friendly and welcoming, and I found the house very comfortable and a relaxing place to stay, and I really liked the room a lot!. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending to anyone who happens to be in the area, and in my gradual meandering cris-crossing across the north and northwest of england, I'm sure i'll drop by here again!
Fantastic. Really welcoming and friendly. I really felt looked after. I would stay again in a flash :)
What a delight it was to stay with Matt and Bronwin in their lovely, cosy home which is situated in a gorgeous part of Lancashire. I could not have wished for a more pleasant welcome and stay .Home made bread and free range eggs for breakfast.
I had such a wonderful time in ur house! I love where u leave and I love you guys too! Thank you so much for ur warm treatment. I am definitely coming back with my family in two years. I first planned to stay in Manchester. But now I feel so lucky that I changed my plans. The time I had in Melling is one of my favorite times:)
Lovely to stay with Matt and Bronwin again, who are relaxed, warm and welcoming. And the breakfast sets me up great for the day!

Happy, professional couple who are both writing novels and when they're not doing that.... Bronwin is a recent PhD graduate and teacher, Matt is a disability carer and exhibits his own photography. We both love the arts, music, films, theatre, philosophy, reading and writing, computer games (Bronwin studies them, but we don't have a PS4 in England yet, so no playing at home for now) friends, travel, fun, meditation, fair-trade, local and eco-friendly living (without being obsessive about it). We're open-minded, grounded and happy. We are Sydneysiders (from Australia) who moved to England in 2014 and we LOVE it. Our big thrill at the moment is visiting National Trust properties - being Australian all that history fascinates us.
