Very centrally located in a quiet, upscale urban neighborhood. Air conditioning, plenty of parking, and a washer/dryer for weary travelers are key features my guests love. It's really tiny, but guests visiting San Diego don't spend much time inside!
Welcome to my studio, a completely private apartment located minutes from EVERYTHING in San Diego, in the exclusive South Mission Hills neighborhood.
This apartment is definitely small, but it has everything you could need with kitchenette, bathroom, private patio, and a washer/dryer for your own use. The studio is one end of a private home but is completely separate. And unlike most urban areas of San Diego, there is always plenty of PARKING on my quiet street.
The neighborhood is central, and within walking distance to many shops and bars. It is also freeway close, and within walking distance from the Washington Street Trolley which goes Downtown and to Old Town and beyond. It is a 2-minute drive up to the Zoo, Balboa Park, and Hillcrest, our gay area of town, and one of the liveliest. It is also a mile from UCSD Medical and Scripps Mercy Hospital if you are a physician in training. The area is alternately called, "Midtown" because it is only 2.2 miles to downtown, and a 1/2 mile from Little Italy. It's also close to the airport, but because I'm tucked in a tranquil canyon, the airport noise is minor.
AMENITIES OF THE APARTMENT INCLUDE:
-Queen-size bed w/goose-down comforter & 500 thread-count sheets
-32" tv with multiple channels (minimum cable + HBO + Netflix and Amazon movies.)
-Coffee Machine, Toaster, Gas Stove and Oven, Microwave, Mini Fridge with Freezer
-Internal heater with thermostat, because San Diego gets to 45 degrees sometimes. (OK, once in a blue moon!)
-Lots of wine glasses, plates, cups, cooking utensils, pots, pans, salad spinner, mixing bowls, etc.
-Mini travel hair-dryer (not super powerful, but handy in case you forget yours.)
-Iron, and ironing board
-I also provide COFFEE, TEA, creamer, sweeteners, olive oil, canola oil, salt, pepper, spices etc. (If you are there for an extended stay and run out of coffee say, then you are on your own for additional provisions.)
-2 big BEACH towels and 2 beach chairs, snorkeling goggles and fins.
-Plentiful PARKING on my quiet street.
- For international guests, the studio also has a cellphone. 1-hour calling cards are $15.00 which you may purchase from me when you arrive. It is a simple phone with basic calling and texting capabilities.
- Car2go is a car sharing and daily rental service that is very handy, and parked within 2 blocks of my house.
RESTAURANTS AND BARS
You are within a couple of blocks of some top bars and restaurants, "International Restaurant Row"
- Gelato Vero Cafe - on the corner, 5 mins by foot for coffee, scones, muffins etc. And yummy desserts.
- Starlite Lounge - San Diego's trendiest supper club for hipsters
- The Regal Beagle - a craft beer drinker's heaven, & they make the most amazing sausages. I recommend the Moroccan Lamb!
- The Wine Vault - $20 prix fixe dinners paired with Californian wines.
- Shakespeare's Pub - British food, beer and soccer 24/7
- El Indio Mexican Food - our best tacos! Order the beef taquitos with guacamole.
See my guidebook link for all faves.
SHOPPING AND ATTRACTIONS:
You are 5 minutes by car from Fashion Valley, Mission Valley, Sea World, Downtown, Old Town, and Balboa Park. You are 10 minutes from the beach, and 20 from the Mexican Border and North County (for the best surf!).
-Trolley and Bus Lines to downtown or Hillcrest, Little Italy, or Old Town around the corner. The bus stop is a 4 minute walk, and the trolley station (Washington St) is 7 minutes. There are bus schedules/routes in the apartment to peruse.
There are two potential drawbacks to the studio that may affect some: first, I mentioned it's small. But the vaulted ceilings make it seem larger. Second, when weather's foggy or cloudy, it carries the sounds of the airport. Flights are grounded after 11:30pm, and do not resume until 6:30 a.m. As one guest said, "it's not enough to disturb our conversation or sleep."
My very first guest baked biscuits one morning during her stay, which is a testament to how comfortable and easy living in Fordham Studio is. I think you will be just as comfortable despite its size. The neighborhood is full of high-end homes, and is great for walks or exercising. Some of the best views in San Diego are right at the top of my hill. I hope you enjoy your time in San Diego!
Washer and Dryer for your use only. (I have my own inside my house.)
Plenty of street parking.
Please feel free to sit in the swing in my front yard, and have a drink. It's nice in the evenings to watch the lights in the harbor come on.
In the Summer I see my guests more because I usually leave my kitchen door open, and guests say "hi". But in Winter, it's more difficult to catch each other. I work during the week and often have community meetings in the evenings, depending on my projects. Weekends I often invite guests over if I'm having a bbq.
The neighborhood is eclectic homes nestled into canyons looking out to the harbor and city. It has very steep hills, and great vistas. If on foot, you will burn a few calories!
I'm close to very convenient public transit. The Washington Street trolley is about a 7 minute walk, and runs north-south. The (email hidden) goes E to Hillcrest and other hip areas. The Old Town station is a central hub for getting to the beaches, La Jolla, and beyond.
Car2Go is the a car sharing program, and I recommend downloading the app and using it as needed instead of hiring a car.
San Diego is really spread out, so I always recommend a car. You can get to almost every place without going on the freeway, it just takes longer. If you are not comfortable driving, a public transit pass is $5.00 per day, and allows you to travel on any bus or trolley all over the County.

I would recommend this location to anyone looking to visit the San Diego area and see the city up close and personal without having to travel far, nor deal with heavy traffic.
The studio is spacious enough for two individuals easily and very accommodating. The housing area is located in what seems to be a very safe and friendly area as well.
With downtown less than 10 minutes away, the zoo less than 10 minutes away, Balboa park and all of its many museums less than 10 minutes away, and multiple beaches no more than 15 minutes away, I would definitely classify this area as prime location.
I give this location 4 out of 5 stars for the room itself, 5 out of 5 for the location, and 5 out of 5 for Belinda as a host.
Belinda's place was perfect! It was very clean and comfortable. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood it was nice to escape the bustle if the conference I was attending. I would highly recommend!
Belinda was a fantastic host - easily accessible by phone or in person anytime we needed her as well as providing a great little apartment. Would definitely visit again!
We stayed at Belindas place for 4 nights and were very happy there. It isn't huge but absolutely sufficient for 2 people, in fact quite cozy. We really appreciated the fully equipped kitchen as well as the washing machine. We took the car to go eat etc. since there are not a lot of places to reach by foot. However that was fine for us and you do have some choices if you don't want to drive. We can absolutely recommend staying here!
Belinda has a fabulous place in a nice neighborhood. The apartment is well-represented in the photos; small, but everything you need. Location is terrific, too: four or five good restaurants within 5 minute walk, trolley stop nearby, and Old Town a pleasant walk to the north. What really made our stay, though, was the friendliness and generosity of our host. She communicated clearly and warmly, and made a real effort to make our week-long stay a vacation we want to repeat.
Belinda is a great host. The studio is well-maintained, clean, and it has everything you need! The location is great with many great restaurants nearby. The check-in was easy and Belinda was alaways available when I had questions. The information on San Diego provided in the apartment is well-appreciated. I highly recommend Belinda's apartment.
I highly recommend Belinda studio
Its very cosy, clean and in a perfect central location in san diego
the neighborhood is very quiet
we loved the place
The apartment was great, just as described and the location close to some great restaurants and a few minutes walk to the trolley station into town. Quiet and private. Belinda was the perfect host.
We loved the month we spent in San Diego and this apartment. The efficient layout makes great use of the space so it never felt crowded. It was well-appointed with everything we needed. The wifi worked great (and was used heavily since we were both working while we were in town).
Belinda herself is a warm host who clearly cares about her guests. She made sure we had everything we needed and even had us over for a delicious dinner. She's easy to communicate with and responds quickly.
We highly recommend this apartment!
Belinda is an excellent host. The studio was as advertised and was immaculate when we arrived. The attractions were all close by, again as advertised. We wanted for nothing, and we even tried to rebook for a future date, however the studio was already booked....our loss. Our overall experience was very positive and hope we can utilize the listing in the future. Than ks, Belinda.
