We had a great stay at the market house. The house is very close to the volcano where we saw the glowing crater at night. And we also went to a black sand beach with lots of turtles. Julia was very friendly and gave us a tour of the plantation house, lent us a guitar and provided us with information about history of the area. The kitchen is functional but not a gourmet kitchen if you like to cook.
One of the most special parts of our trip. Julia even invited us unexpected Christmas dinner with her friends which was fantastic. we are so grateful to have met her and her friends. We really enjoy our stay there and would definitely stay at her place again if I go back to Big Island!
We had a great time during our four day stay in the spacious Pahala Plantation Cottage. As described, it is conveniently located and is a short drive to the Volcano National Park and the black and green sand beaches. Julia and Rob were very responsive to our needs, and made our stay over Christmas a very pleasant one.
We enjoyed our stay in the spacious Pahala Plantation Cottage, which was (as described) near the Volcano National Park and green and black sand beaches.
Julia and Rob were very responsive to our needs.
Julia was a great host and had a wonderful house for us. She responded to my request immediately, sent directions ahead of time, and provided a lot of good information about the area: what to see, where to eat.
The market house is spacious, clean, full of antiques, and has all the necessities. My family loved staying there.
I had to find a place for just one night before we flew back to the States and found the market house on airbnb. It was the first time I used this service and was delighted. The owners met us at the house and gave us a tour and helpful information about what to do in the area. We only wish we had more time to stay. When we come back we will stay longer so we can hit the black sand beach, golf course and do a more extensive hike in Volcano Nat'l Park. Thanks Julia & Mike for your hospitality!
Blessed. The hospitality, cleanliness, honesty, and friendliness of our host and property was wonderful. My wife and I had the opportunity to get married on this property and we'd do it the same way all over again! We now have a fantastic suggestion for anyone who is seeking to do the same thing in Hawaii!
Julia is very nice, although the photos make the house look a tad more luxurious than it is. Also, if you're planning to use the kitchen, be sure to pick up basics like cooking oil, tea/coffee etc.
We stayed at the Market House in Pahala itself and really enjoyed the property. We booked last minute on airbnb and Julia met our needs nicely! We checked in without fanfare and were met by Julia who showed us around a bit and gave us some usefull tips for sites in the area. We particularly enjoyed the black sand beach and Volcano National Park.
The property has two private bedrooms and a third bedroom off the main living area with no door but rather an open concept. Lovely flooring throughout with large deck at the back of the property. Two modern washrooms with laundry facilities in one of the washrooms. We had to buy laundry soap as none was provided!
The large living area was nicely layed out and quite spacious.
Would highly recommend the Market House if you are staying in the Southern part of the big island of Hawaii!
