The space
Location, location, location
Shanti means peace or peaceful in ancient Sanskrit. W are located right on Coleman Valley Road -- known as the most beautiful road in Sonoma County. Shanti is only a short drive two-mile drive, bike ride or lovely walk from the cute little hamlet of Occidental with its shops, famous eateries and locally owned markets. The drive from Occidental to Shanti affords beautiful views of Mount Saint Helena and the surrounding Mayacamas Mountains to the east. But it is further west that attracts so many visitors. The remaining eight miles from Shanti to the ocean are a shockingly narrow, curvy and spectacularly panoramic drive unparalleled in Sonoma County. Forested landscapes of a varied ecosystem of deciduous Oaks, Redwoods and Douglas firs give way to sudden vistas of meadows, huge boulders reminiscent of Ireland's scenery and a fog-shrouded ocean that stretches into eternity. The drive to the coast only takes about 35 minutes, but you are guaranteed to stop and take pictures all along the way. This is the number one scenic attraction in the area, and it is just a left turn out of our driveway.
We can fit four people comfortably in the cottage. There is one bedroom with a queen sized bed and one full sized futon couch in the living/dining/kitchen area that sleeps two smaller adults or children. We can accommodate addition people with pads on the floor if you like.

We are unique in that we are super pet friendly, LGBTQ friendly and 420 friendly. We are a working farm with sheep, a llama named Cosmo, chickens and ducks. You are welcome to visit with the animals and even help us feed them! The atmosphere here is very chill, quiet and peaceful with nature all around you.

Where you’ll be

Occidental, California, United States

Occidental is part of West Sonoma County or "West County" as the locals call it. This is considered by many to be the most desireable town in which to live in West County. The population density is very low because we are in a low flow water area, so there are less people and less developments possible because our ecosystem cannot provide water for a larger population. This in turn means we have to conserve water but also that there are less people and natural beauty abounds. We have towering redwoods, ancient oaks, aromatic eucalyptus, miles of beaches, stunning cliffs, the Pacific Ocean, the greenest meadows like Ireland and the super cute hamlet of Occidental. Nowadays, the locals in neighboring San Francisco, Marin and Napa Counties come to unspoiled Sonoma to spend their vacation time. See what all the fuss is about! Come visit West County!

Elizabeth is a world traveler extraordinaire, having been to 45 countries around the globe. For 13 years she owned and operated an international tour company called "Spirit Travel" in which she organized and led spiritual pilgrimage tours to India, Nepal Tibet and Bhutan. She was featured in Yoga Journal and other publications for her pioneering work in this field. Previously, Elizabeth owned and operated a domestic ecotourism company called "EcoTours of Oregon" in Portland, Oregon for eight years as well. She loves to garden, road bike and mountain bike, practice yoga, read good books, walk barefoot on the beach with her dogs Libby and Lucy, swim, hike, cook and travel. Her most recent passion is permaculture and sustainable farming on her 6.5 acres. She ends most days by simply watching her sheep and Cosma the llama grazing on her hillside -- a wonderful meditation. Elizabeth loves to be a hostess and looks forward to meeting new people through AirBNB. She has bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Nursing and is also a Certified Massage Therapist. As an AirBNB host, Elizabeth is respectful of your privacy, very fair, a good listener and very helpful. She really wants you to have a good time! Her own style of traveling is to undiscovered places that have no postcards. Her last trip was to Cambodia and Laos for two months by herself. She has trekked with a single sherpa to the Mount Everest Base Camp. Her life epitaph is "She lived life to its fullest."
