About this listing
The Wave is a medium size room with a beautiful view of, as we call it, the Mountain, the Mount Royal. Also overlooking the Main (also as we call it), the St-Laurent boulevard. Nice and cozy!
The 9 1/2 B and B is like dropping in at friends place but not expected to spend anytime with them...When you get here, we'll show you the place, explain how it works, give you a virtual tour of the city on the map, answer your questions and then, wish you a good stay in Montréal...The spirit of a youth hostel but in the privacy of your room.
Our place is a 6 bedroom Bed and breakfast, but don't expect us to cook you breakfast, you make your own: we set out the goods the night before: Montreal's best bagels, jam, cream cheese, yogurt, juice, fruits, cereal, milk, and of course coffee an tea ...So no need to get up early, you can eat whenever you like...
The location is perfect, we are ON the boulevard, the Main as we call it, home to Leonard Cohen and Mordecai Richler, the hip Plateau neighborhood, and walking distance to the new hipsterhood, the Mile End. Everything is walking distance...The Mountain as we call it is just a couple of minutes away.
The french Lonely planet (Le Guide du Routard) says: "the gem we dream of finding in a city...." You won't be disappointed!!!

My stay was too short, and I only called Jean by phone and didn't meet him. But he organized everything very well. The room is very clean and comfortable. The location is exellent. Recommand to Everyone!
This is a fabulous room -- view of Mont Royal and the street scene (great fun spontaneous celebration of the Portugal/Czech soccer match, one afternoon) -- with the lovely Wave painting. We enjoyed eating breakfast in (the famous Fairmont Bagels and lots more) on our own schedule. There's a delightful balcony where one can eat or, after a long day of sightseeing, just sit and enjoy the breeze and the night sky. We do lots of research before a trip so we had picked out 8 or 10 places to see, but Jean was immensely helpful with an excellent map and advice on walking and other ways to reach destinations. He even suggested nearby walking and cafes to check out. We would definitely stay here on future trips and highly recommend it to others.
Great location - hosts were extremely nice and helpful. Place was very clean and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

About the Host, Jean
A long long time ago, even before Airbnb even existed, I managed a youth hostel. There I realized that there was a strong need for private rooms but not necessarily with a private bathroom. A question of economy probably. So I went out and created the 9 1/2 Guesthouse. This is a Bed and Breakfast but with a youth hostel vibe. Breakfast is a self-serve formula, the towels don't match, and neither does the linen, and the kitchen is at your disposal if you wish to cook!! However the place is kept real clean and we definitely encourage a quiet and respectful environment.
We also rent out the entire space to groups. As you will see in the comments, people love the place. It is perfect for a weekend with friends, or a family reunion.
Looking forward to meeting you!
