Peaceful, beautifully designed retreat

Guests describe the cabin as peaceful and beautifully designed, with many returning for annual trips
Featured on Magnolia Networks TV Show, Cabin Chronicles, this dreamy cabin (think A-frame with beautiful curves) has a PNW meets Scandinavian vibe.

It sits on a private 5 acres and is only 1.5 miles from the restaurants, shops and action of downtown White Salmon. This magical piece of property is unique, stylish and you can access hiking trails directly from the property. It has been renovated with modern conveniences and styled by a top Portland designer.
This place is special!

The space
This cabin was originally built in the 70's and was renovated in the summer of 2018. It is rare to find a a cabin so close to downtown (a 5 min drive) with this much acreage & seclusion. While you're near everything you want to do, the property makes it feel as if you're in the middle of nowhere. We are 10 minutes to the Hood River Bridge and easy access to all the fun of the Columbia Gorge!

The home is approximately 2,100 square feet and those who appreciate interesting architecture will appreciate the aesthetic here. This 1971 Arched A-Frame Cabin retains all the natural beauty of the exposed cedar walls throughout, but is renovated with many modern upgrades and furnished by a top Portland designer in the Pacific Northwest/Scandinavian style.

The home is accessed by a private gravel road off of Snowden Road and during dry weather, easy for all cars, but if it's snowy or icy out, we STRONGLY recommend an AWD vehicle. And, this home does get snow in the winter so be prepared for winter driving conditions if you are staying December- March. There is plenty of parking at the property.

As you walk up to the home, you are greeted by a large wrap around deck with outdoor table/chair for dining. Stepping inside, you will be in the vaulted great room that serves as both a living and dining room. A wood burning fireplace (firewood is provided) can be used in cooler months to supplement the electric baseboard heat or simply for the joy of a crackling fire.

The main floor contains the great room, kitchen, bath and master bedroom. The spacious kitchen is ready for you to cook! It has white quartz counters, dishwasher, oven/range, refrigerator and microwave. The kitchen is stocked with all the basics you might need including coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, pots/pans, baking dishes, serving dishes, glassware of every type and dishes. A gas BBQ can be found just outside the kitchen, on the deck.

The sleeping areas consist of a master bedroom with a king sized bed on the main floor with an attached bathroom. The newly renovated bathroom has heated tile floors and shower. This is the only bathroom on the main floor so guests will be walking through the master bedroom to use this bathroom.

The second sleeping area is the open loft and has a queen sized bed. This area is super cozy, but do keep in mind that the loft is open to the great room so those sleeping up there can hear those that might be up late hanging out or up early.

The lower level of the home is a daylight walk out basement and has a second living room with a new Jotul propane gas stove to heat the lower level. There is also SmartTV equipped with Netflix or you can use your own login for Amazon Video and WIFI is provided throughout the home.

The third and fourth sleeping areas can also be found on the lower level. We have a queen sized bed and a bunk bed (twin on top, full bed on bottom) that are in their own rooms, though there are no doors between the two rooms so expect limited privacy in this area.

If you are sensitive to privacy among guests staying there, this place may not be the best fit for you as you will have very little privacy with your group. A full bathroom can also be found on the lower level with a tub/shower combo.

A hot tub can be used by guests and is located outside the French doors on the lower level. Though, we have hot tub guidelines posted in the home, including shower prior, and expect guests to follow the rules.

Now the land! Yes, there are 5 beautiful acres. About 1.5 acres are cleared and can be enjoyed by walking, playing in the yard, meditating or doing yoga outside. If you want to stretch your legs a bit, you can walk down a path on our property through the woods to hook into a few different hiking trails (more info on those trails at the house).

Though, keep in mind that you are in nature and there can be wild animals out there. We often see deer and wild turkey at our house, but the Columbia Gorge does have much bigger animals out there, so always be prepared and alert. There has been a bear in the area in the spring and summer of 2022.

The cabin is great for those who want to getaway and relax or for groups who want cozy, intimate time to hang out.

NO PARTIES or EVENTS---only up to 8 guests at the property at all times. So sorry, no events larger than the 8 guests allowed at the property. We get many requests to host weddings and our sensitive septic system cannot accommodate it.

<<>>
-This is our personal vacation home and rent it out when we are not using it so it has been designed to our personal tastes and we get it's not for everyone so read the listing carefully to ensure it's a fit.

-Things that guests comment on that they don't like is that we do not have window treatments on the windows so if you need a dark space for sleeping this is not the place for you.

-Bugs and small mice get into the cabin. You won't see the mice, but you can occasionally find a dropping in a cabinet or on shelf. If this bothers you, this is not the place for you. The same with bugs. If you are bothered by bugs that get inside, this old cabin is not for you either. Our cleaning staff does a great job in between guests, but it is impossible for us to ensure guests don't encounter any of these things.

-If your group wants privacy amongst the guests in your party--you will find very little once inside because of the layout so this may not be the right fit for your group.

→DISCLAIMER: For your safety and the safety of others, surveillance cameras are installed outdoors at this property.

Guest access
Guests will have use of the entire home, deck and private 5 acres of land.

Other things to note
1. This is a very nice property that we have poured a lot of love into. This property is NOT the place for those who want to party hard. We get lots of weddings requests and only allow up to the 8 guest count at the property. You will be expected to leave the property in the exact condition it was found and we have strict guidelines for hot tub use. Only the approved guest count can be at the property and we have a camera set up on the exterior of the home for security purposes. If guests are found violating the rules, guests acknowledge they may forfeit their security deposit.

2. We are in the woods so expect some rural living things including:
-The cabin is on a sensitive septic system, please do not flush anything except toilet paper in toilet
-The cabin is on a well and the water is safe to drink
- Since the cabin in on a well, the water can leave mineral deposits when laundering (even though we have a filter on our water system). We have lots of white towels and sheets in the home and do know they are all clean, but if they don’t look bright white it’s because of the minerals in the well water they have an effect when laundering them.

-You may see box elder bugs (very common, non harmful bugs) on the exterior of the home (especially on the front on sunny days), inside and hiding in other places to stay warm. You will find them near and around the hot tub too, then sneaking into the siding and come in through open doors. We have had the home treated for them, but don’t be surprised if you see these little guys crawling around the cabin. There is a hand vacuum if they bother you and you can vacuum them up
-Wild animals can be around---there are plenty of wild animals in the area including bear, cougar, rattlesnakes, turkeys and dear. Please be mindful, orient yourself with basic safety if you encounter animals and always use caution when exploring the nearby outdoors.

Neighborhood highlights

The home is down a private, rural road and without neighbors visible. You are surrounded by nature. Please keep in mind this property is surrounded by the woods and as a result, you might have interactions with wildlife and insects. Currently, there are many box elder bugs outside the home that can also crawl into the home through cracks. The bugs are not harmful, just unsightly.

Lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon
I am a mom, wife and real estate broker living the good life in the Portland area of Oregon! When I am not spending time with my family or working, you can find me exploring my city, the Pacific Northwest and anywhere warm I can escape to. I grew up on the east coast and have lived in every time zone of the US. I love to meet new people and have an unquenchable thirst for discovering new things. My husband and I bought a A-frame"ish" dream property on 5 acres in White Salmon and spent 6 months updating it and try to use it as much as possible as a retreat for our family. When we are not staying there, we happily rent it on Airbnb for others to enjoy. I love the Columbia Gorge, hosting guests in on our property and am excited to share all the magical places to explore.
