Welcome to your luxurious, meticulously designed private, 700-square-foot guest suite in a historic Brooklyn brownstone. As featured in Architectural Digest’s “59 Best Airbnb Stays Across the US 2023,” the space strikes the perfect balance between style and comfort. Designed by renowned interior designer Jarret Yoshida, the suite features a curated mix of contemporary, mid-century, vintage, and antique furniture, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere.
The space
In a recent New York Times story, the brownstone was highlighted for its inclusion of designs and keepsakes from the host’s upbringing in Hawaiian and Japanese cultures. IKEA Life at Home, an initiative exploring how people live around the world, also featured the home in a global cover story and video as one of seven featured designers. The suite reflects our personal aesthetic, with a curated mix of art and furnishings collected over decades.
The guest suite includes a living room, dining area, and a refined pantry-style kitchenette ideal for morning coffee, light bites, and enjoying the neighborhood’s exceptional dining scene, as well as a bedroom (with a queen-size bed) and an en-suite bathroom. The bedroom is at the back of the house for added quiet and privacy. The home is clean, smoke-free, and has gone solar, offering a healthier, more sustainable stay than traditional hotels. It’s the perfect spot for a peaceful and stylish retreat.

Suite Location
The historic townhouse is located on a quiet one-way street (for New York City!) and offers a unique Brooklyn experience. The neighborhood is filled with vibrant restaurants and cultural spots, and we’re always happy to share our favorite neighborhood spots and recommendations for restaurants, shopping, and more, tailored to your interests. Bed-Stuy is one of the city’s most dynamic neighborhoods, and it shows.
Just a few subway stops from Manhattan, the brownstone is a short five-minute walk from two subway stations (the A and C trains at Nostrand and the C train at Kingston-Throop), as well as the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). You’ll have easy access to Manhattan while enjoying the calm and charm of Brooklyn.
During your stay
While you’ll have privacy, the hosts live in the same brownstone and are happy to assist with any questions or other requests you might have. We love sharing favorite restaurants, museums, and the like tailored to your interests.
We do like to greet our guests and make them feel comfortable when they arrive. Our office staff is also in the top floor office, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 6:30 pm if you need further assistance. We will give you as much privacy as you like, and as much socializing and help as you like and need. We do offer early check-in and late check-out if available. Please ask us if the schedule allows either or both.

Neighborhood highlights
We are located in the historic Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. We still have a neighborhood feel to our part of Brooklyn. Streets lined with brownstone townhouses, restaurants of all types, from many different ethnic backgrounds, cafes and coffee shops. We truly love our neighborhood and our neighbors. We bought our house in 2005, though Dan's maternal side of the family goes back to the 1880's here, his great grandparents, and he is the fourth generation of his mom's side of the family here. One of the many wonders of New York and Brooklyn, it continues to reinvent itself.

Your hosts are Jarret and Dan. We have been together for over 18 years, and have lovingly restored this historic 130 plus year old Brooklyn brownstone.
Jarret owns his own interior design business and has meticulously brought this house back to its former beauty. Originally from Hawaii, he has called New York City home for over 20 years now. He attended Punahou School, USC, and Waseda University in Tokyo. Beginning his design studies at the Corcoran Gallery School in Washington, DC, he went on to Parsons and FIT in New York and, most recently, the École des Beaux Arts et Décoratifs in Paris. After apprenticing with a well-known designer, he founded his own company in 2002 to pursue his unique vision. He is on the board of Womankind, helping women and children escape domestic violence, sexual slavery, and human trafficking in New York City. He has also been on the board of an animal rescue group in Brooklyn and done charity work for Housing Works as well. He is formerly of the not for profit world in DC as well, having done fundraising for the Smithsonian and Human Rights Campaign.
Dan, originally from Long Island, has been partnered with Jarret for over 18 years now. Dan, a Marine Corps veteran was also a firefighter and served at the World Trade Center on 9/11. He has also worked in DC to get the WTC Health & Compensation Act passed, and worked on veterans healthcare legislation as well. Dan continues his advocacy work for veterans and both in New York City and in Washington DC. He belongs to the NYC Veterans Alliance, he is a pre 9/11 veteran member of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America as well as the Marine Corps League. He suffers from multiple chronic illnesses from his 9/11 work but finds strength in advocating for others on the local and national level. Dan was a Marine Corps combat engineer from 1984 to 1988. He was a Combat Engineer with the 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC, and then became a firefighter with Engine Company 216, Freeport, NY.
