I chose the Sherpa Villa in Kathmandu because the idea of staying with a local family and being outside the intensity of the tourist zone was attractive. This location may not be in close proximity to conveniences, but the trade for being with Pema and AG Sherpa, having a kitchen, a yard, well-appointed rooms, privacy when I wanted it and complete security more than make up for that.
You will be welcomed, advised, housed in comfort with space and amenities that simply could not be matched outside of a hotel for this price. I have to mention also that I was here during the earthquake and aftermath. My hosts insisted on taking care of me and going out of their way to regard me as a member of the family during that most difficult time. I will always be grateful for their kindness and generosity. This is a comfortable and warm home for your stay in Kathmandu.
the time spent with the lovely host is really fantastic. she waited nearly 3 hour to pick me up at the airport. the house is really lovely，clean，cute dog，hot water anytime，good tea and coffee. it really good.
The villa is in a good neighborhood. The family is very welcoming and it felt like home away from home. When I arrived everything was ready as described. The host family is a cool bunch a people who likes to interact with their host and make them feel comfortable. Anthony's mom is a super nice and she came to pick me up in the airport when I arrived for the first time. If I had any questions about the city or food, the host family ensured that I had right information and location. Overall, it was a great experience.
I would recommend anybody traveling to Kathmandu, Nepal to live Sherpa Villa :).
What was good?
1. Parents of Anthony were wonderful people. Sitting down and chatting at breakfast, at tea and helped us a lot in planning our sight-seeing
2. Ming-Ma the maid, was absolutely fantastic and a super lady with all the energy in the world
What needs to be improved ?
1. Appreciate electricity is a major problem in Nepal, on nearly 5/10 days, my family took cold showers resulting in my 2 little one's having cough and cold. The solar water heating hardly gave any warm water.
2. The cleanliness of the bathroom was very bad. I will give it a 2/10 rating with 10 being best. Basic hygience aspect was compromised.
3. Power sockets in both the rooms were not working resulting in a major struggle to charge our travel devices.
4. Mosquito menace is another big problem, lack of electricity and bad power sockets meant my entire family were donating blood to the mosquitoes with bite marks all over our bodies.
5. In summary, though the accommodation size is big, the property is just NOT READY to meet the very basic comfort of travellers.
The clean and quite room is located at the second floor of a big charmy villa. Sherpa family is super kind and gave us a really warm welcome to Ktm.
We had a really good time.
Reema's family was the most hospitable and wonderful hosts. The house was quite near to Thamel and the Kathmandu International airport. We were able to learn from the family on some local culture and cuisine. They provided transport for us whenever they could and even spend a day driving us to the monkey temple. Some of us were unfortunately down with food poisoning and we were extremely grateful for the help the host offered. As one of the family member is a doctor he came down to check on us and the family took care of us and ensured we were well. Special mention to Reema's mother who took care of us just like her children. We can't say enough, but a big thank you!
