Thanks for considering a stay at my apartment! I like it...I think you will, too!
When it comes to making my home available to you, I like to take care of all the funky business-related stuff right up front... So: no small print here snuck in at the very end. No surprises! I want to help you SAVE TIME by providing you with the following important details PRIOR to your contacting me.
TIME REQUIRED TO READ THE FOLLOWING: 5-6 MINUTES.
TIME TO WAIT FOR ME TO REPLY TO YOUR QUESTION VIA E-MAIL: up to 72 HOURS.
READ THIS CAREFULLY. It will likely give you the answers you seek faster than I will respond to your e-mail.
Also, in the tabs above, check out the HOUSE RULES and the GUIDEBOOK. The HOUSE RULES tell you what you can do and not do in my apartment. The GUIDEBOOK tells you practical stuff about the area around my apartment, about parking, about getting to and from downtown, public transportation, etc.
IF AFTER READING THE DESCRIPTION, HOUSE RULES, AND/OR GUIDEBOOK, YOU STILL HAVE A QUESTION, THEN YES, PLEASE, JUST ASK!
You can ask me anything at anytime, you'll just have to wait for an answer longer than it will take for you to read it. Plus, if I answer something for you here, and you ask me via e-mail...I'll just think you're kind of...um..."out to lunch", if you catch my drift.
PLEASE OBSERVE AIRBNB'S PRESCRIBED METHODS OF CONTACTING ME. PRIOR TO MAKING A RESERVATION, DO ~NOT~ SEND ME YOUR PHONE OR EMAIL INFO. I CANNOT SEE IT. AFTER YOU MAKE A RESERVATION, ~THEN~ I CAN CALL OR EMAIL YOU OUTSIDE OF THIS SITE. Oh, I almost forgot to mention: DO ~NOT~ SEND ME YOUR PERSONAL PHONE VIA (website hidden) PRIOR TO MAKING A RESERVATION AND ASK ME TO CALL YOU. I can't see it; I won't call you. Finally, did I remember to tell you the following...? DON'T EMAIL ME YOUR PHONE UNTIL AFTER YOU MAKE A RESERVATION. :)
PLEASE BOOK AT LEAST 2 DAYS IN ADVANCE. REQUESTS WITH LESS THAN 48 HOURS NOTICE ARE NOT IMPOSSIBLE, BUT VERY UNLIKELY. (I respond to most inquiries within 3 days.)
I AM RELUCTANT TO CONFIRM A RESERVATION REQUEST IF YOUR AIRBNB PROFILE IS INCOMPLETE, OR ONLY ONE SENTENCE. (ESPECIALLY IF YOU JUST SIGNED UP IN THE SAME MONTH AND/OR HAVE NO REFERENCES).
While not necessary, I also highly recommend connecting your preferred social network to your Airbnb profile. As a host, I want to know you're a cool guest--i.e., basically: 1) safe, 2) sane, and 3) sociable. Your profile is how I garner a sense of that, and how I determine that you're cordial and authentic. Don't worry: if you're seeking solitude and quiet while you're here, I'll ~totally~ stay out of your way. I simply want some assurance you're not planning on using my apartment as a terrorist basecamp or as a meth lab and that I won't walk in after work to discover a surly biker gang roasting a goat on my living room floor. (Understandable, right? If you're a biker that's cool...but no goats, okay?)
I SIMPLY WANT TO KNOW A REAL PERSON IS ON THE OTHER END OF MY COMMITMENT TO OPEN UP MY HOME FOR YOUR PERSONAL USE. SO: ~PLEASE~, ~PLEASE~, ~PLEASE~ FILL OUT YOUR PROFILE PRIOR TO CONTACTING ME.
SORRY, I LOVE 'EM, BUT NO DOGS OR CATS. :( If your stay is less than a week, and your pet is furless, housebroken, and can fit in a handbag, I'll consider it.
KIDS ARE WELCOME. (YOU MUST BE PRESENT AT ALL TIMES WHEN YOUR KID IS IN THE APARTMENT.)
FAMILIES ARE OKAY FOR SHORT STAYS. What is a short stay? Overnight...maybe a weekend. The apartment is too small for a family of three or more to enjoy an extended stay (i.e, more than three days). Extended stays for months and months for ONE GUEST: no problemo. Extended stays with TWO GUESTS: ummm...ask. It depends on what else I have going on. I generally decline couples for stays more than a week. (Again, it's just a small space--a one-bedroom apartment with a large living room, a separate dining room, and a kitchen.) Hence: extended stays with three people in the apartment? We'd likely all go crazy. But I have had couples here for short-term stays.
~~~DETAILS ABOUT THE SPACE~~~
Phew! Okay...now that crazy stuff is out of the way, here are the details... A description of the place follows:
Private bedroom OR living room couch in classical musician's west San Fernando Valley apartment.
I need to have Airbnb update the photos! There is now a queen size bed in the bedroom, and a piano (and some boooks, and boxes) in the living room. There is also a washer and dryer in the apartment now...which is very convenient.
Easy street parking. High speed wifi. Easy access from freeway and/or bus lines; about 40 minutes north of LAX. Close to Ventura County, Simi Valley, Santa Clarita. Short hop over the hill to West L.A., Santa Monica, and beach communities. Very close to one of the most beautiful hiking trails in all of Southern California. Walking distance to Whole Foods, cinema, restaurants, shopping mall, etc. Host knows all of L.A. and the city's cultural life and dining really well.
If you dig the arts including good music, and being close to healthy eats--but simple and comfortable without lavish interior decorating or furniture--you'll enjoy staying here. (Note: one additional room--my office (aka the dining room)--not pictured, is undergoing renovation / has boxes / not empty.)
Registered guests only, except when agreed in advance. Host reserves the right to refuse access to unregistered visitors.
No smoking inside apartment or on the lot / grounds. No recreational drugs. (Sorry...not the right space for prescription cannabis.)
No open flames (BBQ, etc.) inside or out.
Host is a professional musician, so late hours, odd hours are no problem.
With regard to noise (loud music, late night partying, etc.), please respect neighbors.
Full kitchen privileges. (Host is vegan, but meat-eaters welcome here.)
Check-in by 3pm. ID required. Check-out by 11am. Flexible with times if given12-24 hrs. notice.
Lost keys forfeit half of deposit.
Please leave the space as you found it.
Now...don't sweat all that stuff, and just have a good time!
Sean is a FANTASTIC host. I booked here for a month due to an internship in the area. It was a bit of a dramatic start to the stay by my getting into a car crash on the way there, but he was a lifesaver in helping me get my car to a shop in an unfamiliar area, and just an overall rock for me in the stressful situation.
Sean is a great tourguide and local ambassador of LA and the music scene. He seems to have a great pulse on the city, and loves to show it to his guests. He'd definitely be a good host if you want to get a more local feel of the area, both big and small. From small vegan restaurant to Disneyland. :)
As far as accommodations go: I stayed during the worst of the summer, so it was pretty hot. The bedroom is far from the AC unit so it took until the evening with the windows down to cool off tolerably. He was fine with me hanging around in the living room (AKA his bedroom if you're staying in the actual bedroom) in front of the AC until bedtime. Ample closet space, plenty of room for your stuff in the bathroom. Water pressure is pretty decent. I'm not super familiar with the area, but judging from other things available online, it seems like a really great value. No issues parking on the street. Even getting back really late from work it was about 1 block, worst case.
As a PS: I had booked this with some hesitancy, being a lady traveling alone. It couldn't have gone better. Sean is an absolute gentleman. So to any other women in my position who may be reading reviews: I got no creep-vibes off this dude. Very respectful of privacy, with no need to "lay out boundaries". It's a small apartment, but I never felt uncomfortable or that I wasn't provided enough space.
Great and reasonably priced room in Woodland Hills. Good value for money. Sean was incredibly helpful and hospitable. Thank you!
The reservation was canceled 8 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Sean is a very sweet guy! I stayed there for 2 nights and it was very pleasant. He showed me LA downtown and we had nice conversations.
He knows al about LA And the music scene up there, and u can play the piano in his house :-)
Safe neighborhood, free parking, clean place and a comfortable bed!
Would definitely go there again!!
Sean's place was perfect for my transition to LA. It is comfortable and safe, which is important for a single gal. The location was great for me, easy access to the 101, awesome restaurants nearby (try the Indian joint!) and a short, beautiful drive through Topanga Canyon to the beach! Sean was a super host, an interesting guy who can tell you anything about the great city of LA, and now I'm glad to call him a friend as well. Thanks for your hospitality, Sean!
Sean is a great host! Very sweet and helpful. He and I were hardly there, but when we were it was comfortable. He is a really nice person and I felt at ease the entire time I was there.
Sean is the most wonderful host you could ever hope to get! He knows LA like his inside pocket, his place is lovely, with a nice firm bed, he gives you space when you need it and he totally saved my stay by driving me to where I needed to go! Awesome!!!
I make music for a living, and have been doing that for a long, long time. I'm increasingly also involved with stuff related to the web. As a result, I've met a lot of very interesting people from all walks of life, and, likewise, so far, I have been fortunate enough to be leading a life rich in experience...(or so I like to think!) Although my work as a performer and producer has frequently put me in settings surrounded with relative opulence, I, personally, live a very modest life, and my apartment reflects that. I like where I presently live. I think you'll like it, too. It's not huge, nor appointed with swanky decor, but it's quiet, and convenient to a lot of cool things. If you're into privacy, I can dig it...and am happy to leave you alone. If you're looking for a locally acquainted host full of interesting convo...then look no further. I think you'll be glad you met me.
Since I'm new to Airbnb, what I need from you to book the room...just two things:
1) I need something--anything--on your profile that let's me know you're a real person. Just signed up? Don't have a phone? Don't have any of the popular social networking profiles or a LinkedIn profile connected to your account? Don't have a photo, just the avatar? Things like that make me slightly more sketched out when it comes to being a host. Keep in mind, my apartment isn't a Motel 6; it's my home. I actually live here sometimes, and my stuff is here. And, so, in the spirit of openness and reciprocality (is that a word?), I'd like to have a teeny-tiny sense of who you are before I open up my home for your use. If I know a little about what you're hoping to enjoy while here in L.A., and/or have a sense of who you are--like even just your name, that you're here on business or vacation, or that you're originally from city XYZ or went to school at the University of ABC--whatever you feel like sharing....just the slightest inkling about you, and then I think--or hope--it'll be less awkward for both of us, don't you think? I don't need to read your life story. Essentially: I just need to have a vibe that I'm entrusting the use of my home to a reasonable human being. The only way I can vibe that out is simply by reading your profile on Airbnb.
So, please, write a sentence or two about yourself on your Airbnb profile, post a photo, or give me at least the vaguest notion that you're part of the Airbnb community...and then, yes, please, come on over! You'll have carte blanche. Mi casa is su casa.
2) I need two days notice. L.A. is a big area, and, as a working musician, I'm all over the place, and sometimes I work whacky hours...sooo: I need a little bit of a heads-up to get things ready for your arrival. Feel free to ask, but--more often than not--I cannot accommodate same day bookings. It's not impossible, but probably not likely. Again, feel free to ask if you like, however...
Finally, an IMPORTANT NOTE: If you're new to Airbnb, please understand I cannot contact you directly. You must use Airbnb to communicate with me, and I must use Airbnb to communicate with you. If you include your phone number in your e-mails or texts to me, Airbnb will erase or obscure your number. I will not be able to call you. Nor can I include my phone in an e-mail or text to you. I can see your phone only after we have a confirmed booking, but not before. So, I cannot answer your questions in advance of a booking by calling you.
I hope that helps!
