Our home fits with the Cairns life in that it's relaxed, easy-going and very welcoming.
To say we are very fond of food is an understatement! We love to invite over friends for dinner parties, so if you share your dishes from home you will be very popular! We also love to talk about our Australian cuisine with our guests. From our conversations our guests have tried kangaroo, pavlova, ANZAC biscuits, meat pies, "The Lot" hamburgers and lots of other delicious Aussie food.
We are also super-keen for specialty coffee and are always sampling exotic brew roasts from around the world.
Our personal interests include photography, wildlife, food, coffee, technology and natural environment.
Our home is a 3 bedroom fully-air conditioned home in a really beautiful suburb of Cairns.
You will be in a guest bedroom in our home, with a huge king-size bed, fluffy pillows and with lots of privacy. You are our only guests, but sometimes family drop in to visit too, so you may get to meet our family as well.
Your room has a built-in wardrobe, a bedside table, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, fresh clean linen and lovely towels!
You have your own bathroom and separate toilet just outside your door. We put toiletries in the bathroom like shampoo, conditioner, soap and toothpaste in case you forget to bring yours.
We also have big beach towels in case your want to head to the Esplanade Lagoon, or if you're going out to the Great Barrier Reef.
Cairns is a gorgeous please to visit, and this is an especially good this time of year as the warmth brings lots of friendly visitors to our city. The weather is *amazing* at this time of year.

Our home is your home, so you will be able to use everything like you would be used to at home; kitchen, TV, wifi Internet, laundry, linen etc. We recently bought a Wii! It's just like sharing a house with friends, so if you need anything you can just ask.
We are a self-employed couple living just 10mins south of the CBD. We work quite long hours, and are rarely home during the day giving you a chance to chill out.
We've had a lot of experience with international guests, and very much love the cultural exchange from travellers. We warmly welcome guests still learning English. We are slow and patient with non-English speakers as we are learning Spanish and understand how frustrating learning another language can be.
• About Our Friendliness •
As a host our interest in Airbnb is the cultural exchange! We are as interactive as you would like us to be. If you would like to be very talkative and tell us about your home we are very encouraging! Equally if you're here just for chillaxing, that's ok too.
We have a 'our home is your home' policy, and we always find people who stay with us leave as good friends.
We are more than happy to pick you up from the airport. We do not charge for this - but understand how stressful arriving at a new destination can be, and we like to meet you and take the stress and bother away at the start. Please message us your flight number and expected arrival time. If instead you'd prefer to get a taxi, that's no problem. A taxi will cost about $40.
On the way home from the airport we will also take you on a drive through Cairns so that you can get your bearings and get to know the essential landmarks.
Tour Advice & Local Knowledge
Having lived in Cairns for more than 20 years we have a very good idea of tours, so feel free to wait until you arrive before booking your Great Barrier Reef cruises or rainforest trips as we can help you with this. We keep lots of brochures here at home for you to have a look through to help you make a decision.
Our home backs onto a rainforest stream, and we live in a relaxed, safe suburb of Cairns (Forest Gardens) with lots of walking tracks. The bus stop is just a 30 second walk from our house. We also have a very small friendly puppy who loves cuddles, pats and walks.
Both Coles and Woolworths (Australia's 2 biggest supermarket chains) are a 15 minute walk away, or there is a smaller convenience store just 2 minutes walk away. The Sunbus also stops at a major shopping centre (mall) on the way to our home from the city.
Our favourite beach, Trinity Beach, is a 30 minute drive north of the city.
Our home is serviced by a great local bus service, Sunbus, and this is Cairns' only form of public transport. It takes 23 minutes by bus to get to the city. If you hire a car it's only 10 minutes to drive!
Please drop us a chatty message if you have any questions. We always reply very quickly - usually within 10 minutes (or 8 hours if we're sleeping).
We look forward to seeing you here.
Nicky and Kaj go the extra mile to ensure that you have a comfortable and pleasant stay in their home. Breakfast provisions are generous, the bed is large and comfortable and the room itself has excellent air conditioning and an effective fan. Very peaceful location but with good access to public transport. Nicky and Kaj are super friendly and little Poco the dog gorgeous.
We were very comfortable and at home with the Jurds. Nicky was away for most of our stay, but Kaj was the perfect host, along with his father-in-law Phillip. Their little Maltese is absolutely special. Kaj and Phillip were helpful and informative. We really enjoyed our staff.
Cairns was our first stop in Australia with a working holiday VISA and stay with Nicky and Kaj was nice and helpful.
We did not spend a lot of time with them because they worked a lot and we went to bed really early because of jet leg!!!
We loved to spend some time with Nicky's father who gave us nice advices!thank you Philip for all the explanations and for the Wallabies night adventure!!!
The only little one issue was that because of some road works going to the city by bus took to us a bit of time. We did not have a car!
Thank you for everything and see you in Italy! =)
We had the pleasure of staying five days with Nikki and Kai and it simply was not long enough. They are great people who very clearly enjoy hosting for Airbnb. They have the most adorable and very well behaved dog called Pocko. Nikki's father also lives with them and he is a nice man too and he also interacts with the guests. The house is a bit out of the city and can be reached by public bus within 25 minutes. We got lots of lifts from Nikki though as she works near the city. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was large. The funny thing was the bed on wheels so each time you moved the bed moved across the room. We had some laughs about that. Nikki lets you do cooking and washing. Nikki picked us up from the airport, and although we arrived much earlier than expected she did not take long to collect us. Kai took us to the airport on our return at a very unearthly hour of 4am. We spent a few evenings with them playing board games and chatting. We hope to stay in touch with this couple and hope to see them in UK one day so that we can return their wonderful hospitality. If you choose to stay with them you will not be disappointed, it is not the Ritz but the people are truly kind and so hospitable.
My friend and I stayed at Nicky and Kaj's home while staying in Cairns and we had a lovely time. They are both very welcoming, picking us and dropping us off at the airport and giving us a ride into town. They were also very helpful when we were wondering about how to book our reef trip. We had a great time getting to know them and getting to know more about Australia. Their clean home is located in a nice neighborhood with good walking trails in the back. Highly recommend staying here.
Nicky was often absent because she works the whole day until late.
However, it was interesting to speak with her and the few meals she cooked were really tasty !
It was a shame Nicky was called away for work as I think we would have enjoyed our visit better. The accommodations were suitable for our stay but could have been tidier.
we were realy happy with our stay in this house. nicky and kay are such nice persons. it was also a plesure to meet nickys dad. was so nice to stay in there house.
We stayed at Nicky's house for 4 nights but would have loved to stay longer. Nicky and Kaj are great hosts with a beautiful house outside Cairns. The bus connection to the city centre is good, but they even drove us to the city when we had to be there on an early Sunday morning. They showed us the city and we had a BBQ with them at the Esplanade.
We really enjoyed our time with Nicky and Kaj and can recommend staying with them to anyone looking for more than just an accommodation but a welcoming home.
FANTASTIC! We had a wonderful stay with Nicky & Kai. They were helpful, accommodating with last minute changes & helped us plan every element of our trip to Cairns. They were amazing cooks & even invited us to a dinner party with their friends. I can't say enough wonderful things about them & how much fun we had as their guests. I cannot imagine staying with anyone else & can't wait to host them in SF.
