  • It is a nice apartment in a great neighborhood. We had a very good time.
Thank you Laurie! Everything was uncomplicated and comfortable.

  • Laurie's apartment was wonderful. My boyfriend and I stayed for nine nights, with a sister and a friend thrown in for a few days, and we were all very comfortable. The beds were lovely, the kitchen was useful, the bathroom and shower were lovely, everything was clean and simple and peaceful.

We all like to walk, and we were able to walk *ALL OVER* from this part of Bucktown. We were also conveniently near several useful bus lines (we rode the 50 and 73 the most), and the apartment was equidistantly located between both Miko's Italian Ice AND Margie's Candies, an incredibly important feature.

The apartment did get stuffy on the more humid nights we were in Chicago, but three of us are weak Californians who can't handle moisture.

Anyway, thanks again; we had a very nice stay!

  • Laurie was a very good communicator. This apartment is in a great neighborhood, close to fun restaurants and bars. It was very nice to stay here and feel as though we had a home while in Chicago.

  • I needed a place to stay while I looked for a house in Chicago. Being new to the city made this a longer than the normal task. Laurie quickly responded to my inquiry for the apartment and after booking, she was very flexible when meeting to provide me keys to the apartment. I was a little worried about the parking, since there was a lot of residential stickers on cars and locations that I could not park at. But, I never had an issue parking within half a block of the apartment, even late at night. The location was more than I could have asked for. Not knowing the city, I was a little apprehensive, but there was tons of little restaurants, shopping and convenience stores within a mile. On the weekends, I did not need my car for anything. There is a bar (Red Door) at end of street where my girlfriend and I had a great time with a lot of friendly people. It did get a little cold in the evening, but there was a space heater available in the bedroom which more than made up for it. There is a washer and dryer available, which requires coins. Hot water for showers was never a problem. I am a television couch potato at times, so the DirecTV helped me through some miserable winter weather indoors in apartment. I would definitely stay again, or advise friends and family to stay here when they come and visit. Thanks, Laurie.

  • I am baffled at the great reviews for Bucktown apartments, and I can only conclude that the positive reviews are for another apartment in the building. This review is for the main floor, 2-bedroom apartment, which I rented for a month and asked to leave the day after I arrived.

Laurie was not there to meet me when I arrived. When I opened the door to the apartment, I was overwhelmed by a noxious odor of natural gas and a strong chemical cleaner. I decided to open the windows and hope for the best.

There was no information in the apartment about services in the area, so I walked around the neighborhood, looking for a grocery store and the transit stops. There were no grocery stores. When I got back, I called Laurie and asked for information about the area. She advised me to look on the Internet for grocery stores and transit information. If you have ever tried to do this in a foreign city (and country), you will appreciate how unhelpful this was. I never did find a grocery store, only an expensive take-out deli. The blue line (subway) is about a one-mile walk from the apartment and I found it by asking someone on the street.

Things did not improve. The overwhelming smell did not dissipate, the dishes were dirty, the chairs at the living room table were so rickety that I could not use them. The kitchen was dark because the windows have a permanent paper covering. One of the bedroom windows did not lock. (On a main floor???) The living room has only semi-sheer curtains, which means that everyone on the street, and coming up the front stairs, can see into the apartment at night. There were too many rats to count in the alley beside the bedrooms. No one actually lives in the apartment because it is just a rental unit. That may account for its sad (email hidden)is is NOT a place that you want to rent.

    Response from Laurie:

this person was obviously not a good fit for these apartments and she was refunded and moved out almost immediately. we've also slept in the apartment she stayed in ourselves and couldn't smell the mysterious odor, (unless it was the new paint job but i doubt it) or the sheerness of the curtains and the kitchen window coverings being a problem - please read the following 25 plus reviews to get the real story about our apartments.

  • We just spent 5 days at Laurie's place and I have to say it was a fantastic experience. Laurie is super cool and her place is awesome. It's extremely clean and has tons of space. The neighborhood is probably the best part, You're right off Damen and super close to excellent coffee, plenty of bars and the blue line is not too far away, about a 20 min walk. I HIGHLY suggest staying here. I will never stay at a hotel again in Chicago, this is the way to go! Thanks Laurie!!

  • The apartment is situated in a great neighborhood of Chicago but kind of far from the train. If you don't mind walking 15minutes from the train to the apartment it's a perfect location.
Very clean and comfortable, it's perfect for a family with 2 children or two couples.
