Big Bertha's Big Bertha's has all the ingredients of a beloved vacation home. It is comfortable, stylish, unique, well-appointed and private yet conveniently located.
Inside and out, Big Bertha’s expertly combines convenience and comfort with playful cabin chic. With a bocce ball court, outdoor fireplace, hot tub, gas grill, well-stocked kitchen, charming dining room writing desk, reading spots, games and books, cable TVs, high-speed internet, gas fireplace, kids game room, serene views and multiple coffee stations, Big Bertha’s is equally equipped to accommodate families, groups of friends, couples, lovers, food lovers, wine lovers, writers, philosophers, morning people, evening people, middle-of-the-day people and, well, pretty much anyone!
Big Bertha's sits hillside, and is two levels (the upstairs is the main living area). From the driveway, two flights of stairs lead to the deck and front door. Just inside the front door is a small entranceway, with hooks for coats and a place for muddy shoes. This room also contains the washer/dryer. The open kitchen and dining rooms are directly adjacent. The kitchen is recently remodeled with stainless steel appliances and attractive cabinetry. The bar counter transitions smoothly to the dining area, with a dining table which can comfortably seat 8. Sliding doors from the dining room lead out to the deck, which has a gas BBQ, picnic table, and folding Adirondack chairs. An open doorway from the dining area leads to the living room, with couch, chairs, chess table, reading lamps, cable TV, iPod dock, and a writing desk. A short hallway, accessible from both the living room and the kitchen, leads to one bathroom (with bathtub/shower), a bedroom with two twins, and a bedroom with a queen bed.
From the far side of the living room, next to the gas fireplace, a spiral staircase leads to the downstairs level. The downstairs has a game room, with a double futon for additional sleeping space, cable TV, and a card table. At the far end of the game room is a small suite with a queen bed, coffee station and small, yet full, bathroom with a shower. Sliding doors lead to a small lower deck with two Adirondack chairs; a great spot for enjoying some morning coffee!
The main outdoor living areas are located on the same level as the main interior. In addition to the deck with gas BBQ and outdoor dining, there is a side yard with a bocce ball court and a back patio with a hot tub.
Big Bertha's is named for the original owner, Bertha. She and her husband built the house in 1952 and she is still a welcome visitor. When walking though the hallway, notice the art work, which is actually pieces of the original flooring found during the remodel.

The place has a nice design touch, but it was also comfortable, with spaces that encouraged relaxing, conversations, contemplation - exactly why we like to come up to the Russian River. The hosts were professional and considerate, including a quick check in call on Saturday to ensure we didn't need anything.
Great spot! Easy check-in and arranging for key pickup/dropoff. It's tucked away up the hillside so you have to keep an eye out for the signs, but not too tough to find. Well-equipped, great base camp for exploring the Russian River/Sonoma area.
I sent my wife with three of her friends to stay at Big Bertha's for a birthday weekend getaway and by all accounts the accommodations were fantastic. Both Kate and Megan were awesome to work with and really bent over backwards for us. They went out and bought a beautiful floral arrangement and had sparkling wine waiting for when my wife got there. Everyone was super friendly to work with and I'm really looking forward to booking with them again.
The house is exactly as pictured, larger than I anticipated, and stunning. Our group absolutely loved it. Host was responsive and available throughout the weekend. Great trip!
Our group opted to pick-up and drop-off the keys in person at the Russian River Rental office. The staff were very enthusiastic about the house and area, and were very helpful. It's nice that there is someone available from 9-5 every day.
The house itself was perfect for our needs and matched the photos exactly. The home and property felt spacious for 6 people, and it nicely overlooks other properties in the neighborhood. Our group took a walk through the neighborhood - it's definitely chillier than surrounding areas, with towering trees and a general dampness. This was not a problem, though, as the house is centrally-heated.
All-in-all, the house was perfect for anyone wishing to cook a great meal (well-stocked kitchen and ample seating). Furnishings are clean and classy, and there are a TON of board games and books. There is also laundry in the building, a nice bonus.
We celebrated our 25th year anniversary with family and had a wonderful time. Booking was easy, our host was very informative, they kept us up to date with information we needed to know about the town and the house. Big Bertha was beautiful; the location was awesome, surrounded by redwood trees and very close to everything. The house was very clean and well equipped, it had everything we needed. I like the fact they put instructions on certain things, their house manual was very helpful and informative. I would definitely recommend Big Bertha, it’s a great place to stay. Thanks for making our stay great.
Beautiful house in a beautiful quiet location. Came here for a mommy retreat - 5 women looking for a weekend of relaxation and no kids! The house is very fully stocked with kitchen appliances and utensils. We were able to cook meals and grill with comfort. The living space is also comfortable and the deck is great also. Hot tub is fantastic, private. We went on a nice morning walk down Cherry Lane.
Only cons were that the twin beds were very hard so if you are sensitive to that, bring a mattress topper. The queen beds have egg crate foam on them, so they are more comfortable. The advertised futon is also not big enough for an adult unless you don't mind your feet hanging off and is also very hard. If you need the futon for sleeping, I'd suggest bringing an air mattress, which we did.
We would come back to Big Bertha's for either another women's retreat or with our families.
