Nice, quiet, private basement apartment in a beautiful garden.
Our garden hosts a lovely little tea stand called "fly awake". It was WWeek's Best of Portland 2013 (best backyard teashop). Enjoy rare Chinese teas, freshly made chai, herbal teas, and yummies. All in our lovely garden.
Private entrance through the side yard. Private bathroom. Washer/dryer access for stays that are 10 days or longer.
We will check you in, and make sure the first night went smoothly. Come sit and enjoy a beverage in our little tea garden. We'd love to hear your stories. We are accessible if needs arise.
We are close to so many neighborhoods--Mississippi, Alberta, North Williams, Broadway, and a lovely public park (with tennis, a basketball court, and a field to sit, enjoy the sun or picnic in) only a few blocks away. It also has a Whole Foods market and a public library 2 blocks away. I enjoy the community. It is diverse and friendly.
Yep. Bus stops are very close by, and it is only a 1 mile walk or bus ride to the MAX/above ground train.

My stay was good. The room was within walking distance of my event. I was able to use part of the refrigerator allowing me to store a few items. The room was clean, easy to access, and comfortable.
What was super positive about my stay were the hosts' hospitality and the location. I did not get to experience the tea garden as others did due to conflicting schedule while I was in town, but I would definitely consider visiting the tea spot independently next time I visit. However, if you are at all sensitive to noise, it is worth mentioning that there isn't much sound insulation from above and regular household noise seems to reverberate loudly in the basement room, which was just an issue for me in the mornings. Overall there were pluses and minuses, but I did wish I had advance warning about the noise level.
The energy in this home is amazing! I couldn't imagine a better welcome to Portland. Lily, Kevin and Uva are simply the most wonderful people to be around and also knowledgable about the city of Portland. If you stop in the tea shop, which you must, you will learn all about different teas from Kevin and Lily makes the BEST herbal truffles. The room of course is perfect and very comfortable. I will be sad when I have to leave!
Fantabulous! :) :) :)
This room is absolutely cozy and the garden outside is spectacular! The private entrance and bathroom are especially convenient and the room itself is a perfect size for me. I became ill while my stay and Lily was very happy to help me extend me stay without hassle, her and her family are very kind and hospitable.
Lily and Kevin are excellent hosts as always. I've stayed with them often and wouldn't dream of being anywhere else during my trips to Portland.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay with Lily and Kevin! The space itself was absolutely perfect for our short stay. We arrived on Thanksgiving day and were kindly greeted by Kevin who was more than happy to take some time to help us find a place for breakfast. Located in a beautiful little neighborhood within walking distance to Whole Foods, a handful of coffee places and eateries, and bus lines, we felt very welcome in Lily and Kevin's basement space. We would confidently recommend this place to anyone planning on staying in the area. Travelers tip: Skip the short walk to Starbucks and stop in to enjoy some of Kevin's spectacular chai :)
This is the best spot in Portland!! A second home to me. I first stayed with Lily, Kevin, and their daughter for the first time last summer and have stayed with them on most of my other visits to town. Theirs is a wonderful, warm, welcoming home with a beautiful garden, magical herbs, and a glorious tea cart. Just steps away from Whole Foods. You can come and go as you wish and with your own entry and bathroom you'll have a ton of privacy. At the same time, you just can't help but to feel like family by the time you leave. L & K are kind compassionate souls who are full of joy and laughter. Why stay anywhere else?
Friendly hosts; I loved their beautiful tea garden. The chai they serve is amazing. It was great having a private bathroom. No hair dryer or soap provided but you can get the latter at the Whole Foods that's just a short walk away. Only thing, due to the thin celling it was fairly noisy whenever there were footsteps/running upstairs - some people might need earplugs.
We had a very pleasant stay at Kevin and Lily's. They're in/near the Alberta arts district, and the neighborhood seemed safe and very pleasant to walk. Cafes, pubs, eateries, a whole foods and a big park are a short walk away
They have a beautiful 'tea garden' in their yard, and the place has a very relaxed and calming energy about it.
The room is in the basement and has a separate entrance, which meant that we could come and go as we pleased without disturbing them. Though simple, the room was comfortable with extra blankets and enough towels etc. provided.
Kevin, Lily and their little daughter are very sweet and hospitable and it was a pleasure to chat with them.
