If your idea of Hawaii is Waikiki, Don Ho, crowds, expensive activities & tours, this isn’t your place. But, if you’d like to experience a peaceful authentic rural Hawaii setting amid beautiful exotic foliage, Hangin’ Loose is it. And . . . you can experience it au natural.
Listen to the birds & the tradewinds whispering thru the palm fronds, watch a million stars while serenaded by coqui frogs at night. Walk the grounds and see hundreds of native & exotic tropical flowers & plants.
Hang out by the pool, relax in the hot tub, sunbathe on the deck, have a drink . . . get the picture? Our entire six acres are clothing optional.
Or, visit some of the many nearby sites (almost all nearly free): Volcano National Park, clothing-optional beaches, swim with the dolphins, star-gaze atop Mauna Kea, check out the waterfalls, tour historic Hilo or funky Pahoa Town. Hike thru a volcano or along a pristine shoreline. Visit an orchid farm, or a macadamia nut plantation. Golf in Madam Pele’s backyard (Volcano Golf Course). Snorkel with sea turtles. Visit a steam vent -- nature’s sauna. And, much more . . .
Mostly, relax & have fun. That’s what Hangin’ Loose is all about.
Beneath the one hundred foot gum eucalyptus trees with their multicolored trunks sits the Eucalyptus Yurt. Surrounded by exotic plants, flowers & palms, and offering a front-row view of a giant rubber tree, the Yurts ( by Pacific Yurts), are unique & very cool dwelling.

***** Five Star Yurt! There is pretty much an acre of your own private little jungle to hang out & do as you please! We actually changed our plans from Maui to Big Island because this place looked so cool & were glad we did. Jan & Michael are super cool and all their animals are great supplemental pets while you are away from your own. So much nicer than staying in any crowded hotel could ever be.
Keep in mind, this is not a 5 star hotel, it is a 5 star yurt. This is a place for nature lovers. Housekeeping will not knock on your door at 9am to wake you up. There is no heating or air conditioning, as it isn't needed much. There will be some cute lizards in your room and a couple mosquitoes outside. The frogs sound like birds chirping all night. We will definitely stay here again if we return to the island.
Have a blast!
We had a great time at the Eucalyptus Yurt of Jan & Michael. The Yurt was a great experience for us to stay. The kitchen has everything that you need to prepare your own meals, breakfast etc. It had even Hawaii coffee beans available to prepare your delicious coffee in the morning. The shower is basically outside in the forest protected by insect screens, a fantastic way to have a shower, I loved it. The yurt also has its own hot bath, don't miss to use it. We used the hot bath in the evening and it was fantastic to lay in the warm water and listen to all the birds, frogs and other animals that life in the forest, it can actually be quite noisy, but that is (email hidden) need to wear any swim suit, even our 4 year old son enjoyed it to run around as he was born. Our son also like to have a TV, there are books and some tips what to do and to see. The volcano national park is only 45 min drive away, Hilo only about 15 min drive. It is a great location to see the Hilo area of the Island. Be aware that this place is in the middle of a forests, so you also have the mosquitos that can be a bit nasty. The yurt has insect screens at all the windows, but some bugs usually find their way in. Mosquito spray and coils are available, which is great.
Jan & Michael are fantastic hosts. The had some toys for our son ready, Jan did our laundry and they were there when you had questions. Thanks a lot Jan & Michael, we enjoyed the time at your place a lot, even though the mosquitos liked our German blood! Many regards, Annette, Hans and Ruben
